EDD payment delayed after Memorial Day - anyone else waiting?
So confused about my payment status right now. I certified for benefits on Sunday like usual, but the money hasn't hit my Money Network card yet. It's been 3 days now and nothing! Normally I get it within 24 hours. Is this because of Memorial Day holiday? Has anyone else's payment been delayed this week? I've got rent due soon and really counting on this money. The EDD website just shows 'paid' status but nothing in my account yet. Should I be worried or is this normal after holidays?

Yes, holiday delays are totally normal with EDD payments. Since banks were closed on Monday for Memorial Day, everything gets pushed back by a day or two. I've been on unemployment for 8 months and this happens every holiday. Your payment is probably processing through the banking system right now and should hit your card by tomorrow morning.

•Not ALWAYS true. I got my payment right on time this week even with the holiday. Maybe depends on your bank or something? Or how long you've been in the system?

This is definitely due to the Memorial Day holiday. When your EDD claim shows 'paid' but the money hasn't arrived, it means EDD has processed your payment but the banking system is delayed. Federal holidays affect direct deposits and Money Network card payments similarly. For future reference, always plan ahead for these payment delays around holidays: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, etc. I recommend keeping a small emergency fund specifically for these predictable delays if possible.

•That's good advice about planning ahead. Will definitely remember that for July 4th! I'm still new to the unemployment system so didn't realize how holidays affect everything.

My sister had the same issue last Memorial Day and her deposit came 2 days late. She was freaking out too but it showed up eventually. EDD really should put notices about this on the website so people don't worry.

I've been dealing with the SAME EXACT ISSUE!! Certified Sunday morning, shows paid on the website since Monday, but ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in my account! This is so stressful - I have bills that were supposed to auto-pay tomorrow. The EDD system is such a joke sometimes. If they know there's going to be a holiday delay, they should at least put a notification on the website!!! Now I'm going to get hit with late fees because of their incompetence.

•You might want to call your billing companies and explain the situation. Many will waive late fees if you communicate with them in advance. As frustrating as the delay is, it's actually the banking system, not EDD specifically, causing the holiday processing delay.

If the status shows "paid" but you haven't received the money after 4-5 business days, you should definitely contact EDD to make sure there isn't a problem with your payment method. I had an issue once where my payment information somehow got corrupted in their system, and I had to get it fixed by calling them.

•It's only been 3 days including the holiday, so I'll wait another day before panicking. If it doesn't show up by Friday though, I'll definitely need to call them. Thanks for the heads up about possible payment method issues.

•Good luck trying to reach EDD by phone! I spent THREE WEEKS trying to get through about a payment issue last year. Always busy signals or disconnections. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an EDD rep in under 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - totally worth it when you need to actually speak to someone at EDD quickly.

Has anyone noticed that sometimes the delay depends on what time of day you certified? I always certify super early Sunday morning (like 12:01am), and my payments seem to process faster, even after holidays. Maybe a coincidence, but my friend who certifies Sunday evening always gets hers later than me.

•You're onto something there. Early certification can help. EDD processes certifications in batches, so being in an earlier batch can sometimes get you paid before the holiday bank processing freeze happens. It's not a guaranteed solution, but it might help with future holiday weekends.
