EDD payments on holidays - certified yesterday but stuck in pending still?

I certified for benefits yesterday morning (Sunday) which I always do, but usually get paid by Monday morning. It's now late Monday afternoon and still nothing in my account. Does EDD delay payments because of holidays? Today is Presidents Day so I'm wondering if that's why my payment is delayed? Anyone else experiencing this or know if EDD observes federal holidays for payment processing? Really counting on this money for rent due this week...

yep holidays mess everything up with edd. banks r closed on federal holidays so no processing happens. expect ur payment tomorrow morning probly

Thanks, that makes sense. Just needed to make sure it wasn't something wrong with my claim specifically. Rent is due Wednesday so cutting it close 😬

This happens every federal holiday. EDD systems might process your certification, but the banking/payment system doesn't operate on federal holidays. Presidents Day is definitely a banking holiday, so direct deposits and Money Network card loads won't process until tomorrow. Your claim status probably shows 'paid' in the system, but the actual funds transfer is delayed until the next business day.

This happened to me on MLK day too! Freaked out for nothing lol

Same here!! I panicked last Memorial Day weekend cuz I certified Sunday and didn't get paid till Wednesday!!! Called EDD like crazy and couldn't get through. HORRIBLE customer service there.

I waited 3 hours on hold with EDD last month just to ask a simple question about my certification. Total waste of time. I found this service called Claimyr that gets you through to an EDD rep without the crazy wait. Saved me hours! They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Their website is claimyr.com if you need to actually speak with someone about your payment delay (although in your case it's definitely just the holiday).

Is that service legit? Sounds too good to be true honestly. How does it even work?

It's basically an automated call system that navigates the EDD phone tree and holds your place in line. When they get through to a rep, they connect you. Worked for me when I needed to fix an ID verification issue last month.

ITS NOT JUST HOLIDAYS!! EDD is DELIBERATELY slowing down payments to everyone!!! my cousin works for the state (not edd) and says they are trying to DISCOURAGE people from claiming. did you kno the system is DESIGNED to be frustrating?? they WANT you to give up and stop claiming!! WAKE UP PEOPLE

This is simply not accurate. Payment delays around holidays are due to standard banking procedures, not some conspiracy. The Federal Reserve and ACH processing systems don't operate on federal holidays, which affects all direct deposits, not just EDD payments.

OH REALLY?? then explain why my friend got paid on columbus day last year but not this presidents day?? EXPLAIN THAT!! the inconsistency PROVES im right!!

UPDATE: My payment just hit my account this morning (Tuesday)! So for anyone searching this in the future - yes, holiday Monday delayed my payment by one day. Thanks everyone for the reassurance.

Glad it worked out! 👍

I had this EXACT same issue but with Memorial Day last year! I certified on Sunday, normally get paid Monday, but the holiday pushed it to Tuesday. Nearly gave me a heart attack since I had bills auto-debiting Tuesday afternoon. Now I always plan ahead for holidays. Here's my calendar hack: at the beginning of the year, I mark ALL federal holidays in my phone calendar with a reminder 3 days before saying

That's actually really smart! I'm going to do that right now. Thanks for the tip!

Wait im confused... does this affect certify dates too?? Im supposed to certify this sunday but now im worried cuz of all this talk of holidays. Will I still be able to file my biweekly certification on sunday or do I have to wait til tues too????

No, certification dates aren't affected by holidays. You can still certify on your regular schedule (Sunday for you). It's only the payment processing that gets delayed because of banking holidays.
