EDD payment delayed after MLK Day - Money Network deposit missing?
I was supposed to get my unemployment payment today but nothing showed up in my account. I certified on Sunday night like usual (around 10pm), got the confirmation email from EDD, but now it's Tuesday afternoon and still nothing in my bank account. Is it because of the Martin Luther King holiday yesterday? Do EDD payments get delayed after holidays? I'm really counting on this money for rent due on Friday. Anyone else experiencing a delay with their payment transfer? This is my first time dealing with a holiday since I started unemployment benefits in December.

Yes, holiday delays are normal with EDD payments. Since yesterday was a federal banking holiday (MLK Day), your payment will likely show up tomorrow. Bank transfers don't process on federal holidays, and EDD usually takes 24-48 hours after certification to deposit funds anyway. I'd wait until tomorrow afternoon before worrying too much.

•Thank you so much! That's a relief. I didn't even think about how banking holidays affect this. Will remember this for future holidays.

It's definitely because of the holiday. Most banks don't process direct deposits on federal holidays, and since EDD processes payments through the banking system, it causes a delay. Are you using Money Network or direct deposit? With Money Network card, sometimes payments post a bit faster than direct deposit to external banks.

•I'm using direct deposit to my Chase account. I didn't want to deal with the Money Network card since I heard some people having issues with ATM limits and fees. Maybe I should reconsider though if it's faster.

•Direct deposit is usually fine, just takes that extra day sometimes. Money Network has its own quirks too. The card works well for some people, but others prefer direct deposit. For future reference, any federal holiday (Presidents Day is coming up in February) will cause similar delays.

•Actually, there is a notice about payment processing times and holiday delays in the EDD handbook and on their website under the FAQ section. But I agree they could make it more obvious when you're certifying around holidays. A pop-up reminder would be helpful.

I had this exact issue after Thanksgiving and Christmas too. Holiday = payment delay. Super annoying when bills are due! I've been on unemployment since September and learned the hard way to plan ahead for holidays. One time my landlord was NOT happy when I paid rent late because of this.

•That's exactly what I'm worried about with rent. Thanks for the heads up about planning for holidays, I'll definitely keep that in mind for Presidents Day next month.

If you need to speak directly with an EDD rep about your payment status (which might be a good idea if it doesn't show up by Thursday), I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to them quickly. I spent THREE WEEKS trying to reach someone about a delayed payment, then tried Claimyr and got through in under 30 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. Saved me so much frustration after calling EDD 50+ times on my own with no luck.

•Thanks for the tip! If my payment doesn't show up by Thursday I'll definitely check that out. The EDD phone system is impossible to navigate.

Here's what you should know about payment timing with EDD: 1. When you certify Sunday, payment typically processes Monday 2. Federal holidays delay processing by one business day 3. Direct deposit usually takes 24-48 hours after processing 4. Money Network card deposits are sometimes faster 5. You can check payment status on UI Online under Payment History If your payment status says "paid" but hasn't hit your account, that's normal after holidays. If it says "pending" for more than 3 business days, that might indicate a different issue requiring EDD contact.

•Just checked UI Online and it does say "paid" with yesterday's date, so I guess it's just the bank transfer delay. Thank you so much for this clear explanation! Really helpful.
