Does NYS Department of Labor unemployment deposit on holidays - confused about payment timing
I'm supposed to get my unemployment payment this week but Monday was Martin Luther King Day. Does the NYS Department of Labor still process deposits on federal holidays or do I have to wait until Tuesday? My bank account is pretty much empty and I need to know if I should expect the money today or if it gets delayed. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday like always but I'm not sure how holidays affect the deposit schedule.

No, NYS Department of Labor doesn't process payments on federal holidays. If your normal deposit day falls on a holiday, it usually comes the next business day. So if you normally get paid on Monday and it was MLK Day, you should see it today (Tuesday) instead.

The NYS Department of Labor follows federal banking holidays for all electronic deposits. This means if your payment date falls on a federal holiday, it will be processed on the next business day. Keep in mind that some banks may also have additional delays depending on their own processing schedules, so if you don't see it by end of business Tuesday, check with your bank before panicking.

I've been dealing with this same issue for months now. The holiday delays are frustrating but at least they're consistent. One tip - if you have direct deposit, check your account early in the morning on the expected day because sometimes the payments post overnight even if the department processes them the day before. Also, the NYS DOL website has a calendar showing federal holidays that affect payment processing if you want to plan ahead for future delays.
