Does unemployment pay on weekends - NYS Department of Labor payment schedule confusion
I'm really confused about when unemployment payments actually hit your account. I filed my weekly claim on Sunday like I always do, but I'm wondering if NYS Department of Labor processes payments on weekends or if I have to wait until Monday? My rent is due tomorrow and I'm trying to figure out if the money will be there. Does anyone know the actual payment schedule for unemployment benefits in NY?

NYS Department of Labor typically processes payments on business days only. Even if you file your weekly claim on Sunday, the payment usually gets processed Monday through Friday. Most people see their direct deposit hit Tuesday or Wednesday after filing on Sunday/Monday.

yeah i think its like 2-3 business days after you do your weekly claim, never seen it come on a weekend

The payment schedule depends on your bank too. I have direct deposit and usually get my unemployment benefits on Tuesday if I file my weekly claim by Monday morning. NYS Department of Labor sends the payments out on business days, but different banks process them at different times.

From my experience, NYS Department of Labor definitely doesn't process payments on weekends. I've been on unemployment for a few months now and the pattern is always the same - file your weekly certification on Sunday/Monday, and the payment hits my account on Tuesday or Wednesday. Since today is Monday and your rent is due tomorrow, unfortunately you'll probably have to wait until Tuesday at the earliest. I know it's super stressful when you're cutting it close with bills! Maybe reach out to your landlord to let them know the payment is coming just a day or two late?
