What day does NYS Department of Labor unemployment direct deposit hit your account?
I just set up direct deposit for my unemployment benefits and I'm wondering what day of the week the money actually shows up in my bank account. I know I have to certify on Sundays but does anyone know when the NYS Department of Labor actually sends the payment? My landlord is breathing down my neck and I need to know exactly when to expect it so I can plan my bills accordingly.

If you certify on Sunday and there are no issues with your weekly claim, the NYS Department of Labor typically processes payments on Tuesday. Most people see the direct deposit hit their account on Wednesday morning, but it can vary slightly depending on your bank. Some banks process ACH transfers faster than others.

•That's really helpful thank you! So basically Sunday certification = Wednesday money if everything goes smoothly?

Just be aware that if your claim goes into adjudication for any reason, payments will be delayed until that's resolved. The NYS Department of Labor won't release funds if there are any questions about your eligibility for that week. Also make sure you're completing your work search activities correctly because that can cause delays too.

•OMG this happened to me last month! My payment was delayed for like 2 weeks because I missed some job search requirement detail. The system is so confusing, I had no idea I was doing something wrong until they sent me a letter.

I've been dealing with the NYS Department of Labor for months and honestly their payment schedule is all over the place. Sometimes Wednesday, sometimes Thursday, once it took until Friday. The whole system is a mess and they never give you a straight answer when you call.

If you're having trouble getting through to the NYS Department of Labor to verify your payment status, I had good luck using a service called Claimyr at claimyr.com. They help you actually reach a real person at the unemployment office instead of sitting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really saved me a lot of frustration when my payments were getting delayed.

•Interesting, never heard of that before. Might be worth checking out if I run into problems. Thanks for the tip!

Mine always comes Wednesday mornings around 6am Eastern. Been getting unemployment for 3 months now and it's been super consistent. Just make sure you certify by Sunday night and don't report any work income incorrectly.

I can confirm what others are saying - the Wednesday timeline is pretty accurate in my experience. I've been collecting for about 6 weeks now and as long as I certify by Sunday evening, the money hits my Chase account every Wednesday morning between 5-7am. One thing that really helped me was setting up account alerts so I get a text the moment the deposit comes through. That way I know exactly when I can pay rent and other bills without having to constantly check my balance. The NYS system might be clunky but at least the payment timing has been reliable for me.

•That's smart about setting up the account alerts! I never thought of that but it would definitely help with planning. Chase seems to process things pretty quickly - I'm with a smaller credit union so I'm hoping they're just as reliable. Did you have any issues during your first few weeks or has it been smooth sailing from the start?

I've been getting my NYS unemployment payments for about 4 months now and can definitely confirm the Wednesday morning timeline. Usually hits my account between 3-6am on Wednesday if I certify by Sunday night. One tip that helped me - if you're worried about timing for rent, most landlords will accept a screenshot of your pending deposit or certification confirmation as proof that payment is coming. My landlord was understanding when I explained the NYS Department of Labor payment schedule. Also, if you have a good relationship with your bank, some will show pending ACH deposits a day early so you might see it Tuesday night. Just don't spend it until it actually clears!
