Does Presidents Day affect unemployment claim filing with NYS Department of Labor?
I'm supposed to file my weekly claim this Monday but it's Presidents Day. Does this affect when I can file or when payments get processed? The NYS Department of Labor website doesn't really explain what happens on federal holidays. I don't want to mess up my claim by filing late if the system is down or if there's a different deadline. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Federal holidays don't change your weekly claim filing window. You can still file online through the NYS Department of Labor website on Presidents Day - the system runs 24/7. Your filing deadline stays the same (Sunday at midnight). However, payment processing might be delayed by one business day since banks are closed.

•Thanks! So I should file as normal on Monday then? Just want to make sure I don't get flagged for late filing.

Wait I'm confused - I thought we had to file by Sunday? Can we file on Monday too? I've been stressing about missing the deadline every week!

•You can file your weekly claim Sunday through Saturday, but it's due by Sunday at midnight for that benefit week. Filing on Monday would be for the following week's claim.

•Ohhhh that makes so much more sense! I've been panicking every Saturday thinking I only had one day to file.

I had trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor on a holiday once when my claim got stuck. If you need to speak to someone about claim issues during holiday weeks, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to agents. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals.

•Never heard of that but honestly anything is better than sitting on hold for 3 hours just to get disconnected

The NYS Department of Labor is terrible about communicating holiday schedules! They should put this info right on the login page instead of making us guess. Last year I wasted so much time trying to figure out if Columbus Day affected my payments.

I work for a bank and can confirm what Miguel said about payment delays - while you can file your claim normally on federal holidays through the online system, direct deposits and other electronic payments typically get delayed by one business day when banks are closed. So if you normally get your unemployment payment on Tuesday, it might come Wednesday after Presidents Day. The important thing is to file by your usual Sunday midnight deadline to avoid any issues with your claim.

•That's really helpful to know from someone who works in banking! I always wondered why my payments sometimes came a day later than expected. Good to have confirmation that it's just the bank processing delay and not an issue with my claim. Thanks for the insider info!
