Is NYS Department of Labor unemployment office open on Presidents Day?
Quick question - does anyone know if the NYS Department of Labor unemployment offices are open on Presidents Day? I need to submit some paperwork for my adjudication issue and I'm not sure if it's considered a federal holiday for state offices. Their website doesn't clearly say and I don't want to waste a trip downtown if they're closed. Also wondering if the phone lines will be operational or if I should just wait until Tuesday to call about my pending claim status.

NYS Department of Labor offices are typically closed on Presidents Day since it's a federal holiday. Most state agencies follow the federal holiday schedule. Your best bet is to check online at labor.ny.gov or wait until Tuesday to call. The phone lines are usually down on federal holidays too.

yeah theyre def closed on presidents day, found out the hard way last year when i tried to go in person for my appeal hearing stuff

If you need to file your weekly claim though, the online system should still be working even on the holiday. That part runs 24/7 unless they're doing maintenance. Just the physical offices and phone support that close down.

The whole NYS Department of Labor system is such a mess anyway. Half the time their offices are closed for random reasons and the other half the phones don't work. Presidents Day is just another excuse for them to not help people who desperately need their benefits.
