Is the NYS Department of Labor unemployment office open on Presidents Day?

Quick question - does anyone know if the NYS Department of Labor offices are open on Presidents Day? I need to file an appeal for my disqualification and the deadline is coming up fast. I've been trying to call but can't get through and I'm not sure if they're even answering phones today. Also wondering if the online system at my.ny.gov will be down for maintenance or anything. Really need to get this sorted out ASAP.

Most NYS Department of Labor offices are closed on federal holidays including Presidents Day. However, the online system at my.ny.gov should still be accessible for filing appeals and weekly claims. You can submit your appeal paperwork electronically through the website even when offices are closed. Just make sure you have all your documentation ready.

Thanks! That's a relief. I have all my paperwork scanned, just wasn't sure if the system would be down.

If you're having trouble reaching them by phone, I had success using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) when I needed to speak to someone about my adjudication issues. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Basically they help you get through to an actual NYS Department of Labor agent instead of getting stuck in phone tree hell or hung up on.

Interesting, never heard of that before. How does it work exactly? Do they just call for you or something?

They help navigate the phone system and get you connected to the right department. Was super helpful when I was dealing with my claim being stuck in adjudication for weeks.

OMG YES thank you for asking this! I was wondering the same thing but felt dumb asking. I always get confused about which holidays they observe vs which ones they don't. Like are they open on Columbus Day? What about MLK Day?? The whole system is so confusing already without having to guess when they're actually working.

NYS Department of Labor follows the standard federal holiday schedule, so they're closed on MLK Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They're open on state-specific holidays that aren't federal.

The phone lines are always a nightmare anyway, holiday or not. I've been trying to get through about my overpayment notice for three weeks now. At least the online appeals system works most of the time, just make sure you save copies of everything you submit.
