Is the NYS Department of Labor unemployment office open today - need to file appeal in person
Does anyone know if the NYS Department of Labor offices are open today? I got an overpayment notice last week and I need to file an appeal but I'm not sure if I can do it online or if I have to go in person. My local office is in Albany and I tried calling but just got the automated message. I only have like 2 weeks left to appeal this thing and I'm starting to panic. Has anyone had to appeal an overpayment decision recently?

You can actually file your appeal online through the my.ny.gov portal! Don't waste time trying to go to the physical office. Log into your account, go to the appeals section, and you can upload all your documents there. The deadline is 30 days from the notice date, not 2 weeks, so you have more time than you think.

•Thank you! I didn't know I could do it online. Do I need any specific documents or can I just explain my situation in the appeal form?

I had to deal with an overpayment appeal last year and it was such a nightmare. The NYS Department of Labor kept saying I worked more hours than I reported but I had all my timesheets and everything. Took me 3 months to get it resolved.

•Did you end up winning your appeal? I'm curious what kind of evidence they accepted because I'm dealing with something similar right now.

Most NYS Department of Labor offices are open Monday through Friday but with limited hours. If you really need to speak to someone about your appeal, I found this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an actual agent when I couldn't reach anyone by calling normally. They have a website at claimyr.com and there's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call.

•How much does that cost? I'm already stressed about the overpayment and don't want to spend more money if I don't have to.

•It's worth checking out their site for pricing info, but honestly after spending weeks trying to get through on my own, it was a relief to actually talk to someone who could explain my options.

•I wasn't sure if appeals had to be done in person since it's such a serious thing. Good to know it's all online now.

The NYS Department of Labor office hours are usually posted on their website but they change them sometimes without notice. I went to my local office last month and they were closed for 'staff training' with just a paper sign on the door. So frustrating when you need help with something urgent like an appeal deadline.
