Is the NYS Department of Labor unemployment office closed today - need to file urgent appeal

I need to submit an appeal for my disqualified unemployment claim today but I can't tell if the NYS Department of Labor office is open. The website isn't clear about today's hours and I've been calling but just get busy signals. My appeal deadline is tomorrow and I'm freaking out that I might miss it. Does anyone know if they're open today or if there's another way to submit this? I was disqualified because they said I quit voluntarily but I was actually laid off due to company downsizing.

Most NYS Department of Labor offices follow federal holiday schedules, so if today is a federal holiday they're likely closed. However, you can submit your appeal online through the my.ny.gov portal 24/7. Log into your unemployment account and look for the 'Appeals' section. You don't have to physically go to the office to file an appeal.

Thank you! I didn't realize I could do it online. I've been so stressed about getting there in person before the deadline.

yeah the online system works fine for appeals, i filed mine at like 2am when i couldn't sleep lol. just make sure you upload all your documentation - termination letter, emails about the layoff, etc. they need proof it wasn't voluntary

If you're still having trouble reaching them by phone, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) when I needed to speak with someone urgently about my claim status. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. It was a lifesaver when I couldn't get through the regular phone lines during my adjudication period.

Interesting, I've never heard of that service. Is it legitimate? I'm hesitant to try third-party services for government stuff.

It's legit - they just help you get through to actual NYS Department of Labor representatives. I was skeptical too but it worked when nothing else did.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A MESS! I've been trying to reach someone for weeks about my overpayment notice and nobody ever answers. It's like they don't want to help people who actually need assistance.

Check the my.ny.gov site - there should be a notice if offices are closed today. But definitely file that appeal online ASAP since you're cutting it close on the deadline!

I went through a similar situation last year when I was laid off. The online appeal system through my.ny.gov is definitely your best bet - it's available 24/7 and you'll get an email confirmation once it's submitted. Make sure to clearly explain in your appeal that you were laid off due to company downsizing, not a voluntary quit. Include any documentation you have like your termination letter, layoff notice, or emails from HR. The key is being very specific about the circumstances. Don't panic - as long as you submit it before the deadline tomorrow, you should be fine. The system timestamps everything so they'll know it was filed on time.
