Does Presidents Day affect Washington ESD unemployment claim processing?
I'm supposed to file my weekly claim this Sunday but Monday is Presidents Day. Will this delay my unemployment payment or affect when I can submit my claim? I've been getting my benefits on time every week and don't want to mess anything up. Does Washington ESD close for federal holidays and how does that impact our claims?

Federal holidays like Presidents Day don't affect your weekly claim filing schedule. You can still file your weekly claim as normal through the Washington ESD website. The online system runs 24/7 even when offices are closed.

•That's a relief! So I can file Sunday night like usual and still expect my payment Tuesday?

Dmitry Popov
•Exactly. Your payment schedule shouldn't change at all because of the holiday.

•Washington ESD customer service is closed on federal holidays including Presidents Day. If you need to speak with someone, you'll have to wait until Tuesday to call.

•ugh great, just when I finally work up the nerve to call them about my adjudication issue

I had this same concern last Presidents Day! Filed my claim Sunday night, got paid Tuesday as usual. The automated system doesn't care about holidays but phone support definitely does.

•Good to know. I always stress about these holiday weekends messing up my benefits.

If you're having trouble reaching Washington ESD by phone during normal business hours, I discovered this service called Claimyr that helped me get through. They have agents who can navigate the phone system for you. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Might be worth checking out if you need to talk to someone after the holiday.

•Never heard of that before. Does it actually work? I've been trying to call about my adjudication for weeks.

•Yeah it worked for me when I had a disqualification issue last month. Check out claimyr.com for more info. Saved me hours of trying to get through on my own.

•Interesting, I might try this too. The hold times are ridiculous.

Just to clarify - Washington ESD offices and phone lines are closed on all federal holidays including Presidents Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, etc. But online services like weekly claim filing, checking your account, and viewing payment history are available 24/7. Only human-staffed services are affected by holidays.

•Thanks for the clear explanation. This should be posted somewhere obvious on their website.

•Agree, it's not super clear when you're new to the system.

Presidents Day is Monday February 17th this year right? I always get confused about which Monday it falls on

Dmitry Popov
•It's the third Monday in February every year. This year that's February 17th, yes.

What about bank processing though? Even if Washington ESD processes payments on Tuesday, will banks be slow because of the holiday?

•Most direct deposits process normally even after federal holidays. Banks typically catch up on holiday processing the next business day.

•Good point. I use direct deposit so should be fine.

Does anyone know if job search activities are affected? Like if I have an appointment with WorkSource on Monday?
0 coins
Dmitry Popov
•WorkSource offices are also closed on federal holidays. You'd need to reschedule any in-person appointments. But online job search activities count just the same.

•Thanks, I'll check their website to see about rescheduling

I'm paranoid about missing my weekly claim deadline. Is there any grace period if you file late because of a holiday?
0 coins
StarSailor}
•The deadline doesn't change because of holidays. You still need to file by 11:59 PM on your designated day. But since the system is online 24/7, holidays shouldn't prevent you from filing on time.

•Ok that makes sense. Better safe than sorry.

This is why I always file my claims as early as possible in the week. Don't want to risk any technical issues on the deadline day

•Smart approach. I learned that lesson the hard way when the website went down one Sunday night.

For anyone still worried about calling Washington ESD after the holiday - I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and it really does work. I was skeptical at first but they got me connected to an actual person within an hour. Worth trying if you've been struggling to get through.

Quick question - if my payment is scheduled for Monday (Presidents Day), does it come Tuesday instead or does it skip a day?
0 coins
Dmitry Popov
•If your payment would normally be processed on a federal holiday, it typically processes the next business day. So Tuesday in this case.

•Perfect, thanks for clarifying that

I work in banking and can confirm that ACH payments (like unemployment direct deposits) process normally after federal holidays. There might be a slight delay but nothing major.

Has anyone ever had their weekly claim filing window extended because of a holiday? Just curious
0 coins
StarSailor}
•No, the filing deadlines don't change for holidays since the online system is always available. Extensions are only given for system outages or other technical issues.

Isabella Ferreira
•Makes sense. The online system doesn't need days off like people do.

One more thing - if you need to submit documents or appeals, those deadlines also don't change for holidays. Keep that in mind if you have any pending paperwork.

For future reference, Washington ESD posts their holiday schedule on their website. Worth bookmarking if you want to plan ahead for when offices are closed.

Bottom line: file your claims as normal, expect payments as normal (maybe one day later), but don't expect to reach anyone by phone on Monday. Pretty straightforward once you understand how it works.

Just remember that if you do need to call Washington ESD after the holiday and can't get through the normal way, that Claimyr service people mentioned might be worth trying. Sometimes you need to talk to an actual person to resolve certain issues.
