When do you file your weekly claim for unemployment in Washington ESD?

I just got approved for unemployment benefits through Washington ESD and I'm confused about the timing for filing weekly claims. Do I file every Sunday? Monday? Is there a specific deadline I need to hit? I don't want to mess this up and lose my benefits. My first payment week starts this coming Sunday but I'm not sure when I'm supposed to actually submit the weekly claim form online.

You file your weekly claim for the week that just ended, starting Sunday morning. So if your benefit week runs Sunday-Saturday, you'd file that claim on the following Sunday. Washington ESD opens the system at 6am on Sunday and you have until 11:59pm Saturday to file for that week.

Thanks! So I wait until the week is over before filing the claim for that week? That makes sense.

yep exactly. dont file early or itll mess up your claim

The weekly claim filing window is Sunday 6am through Saturday 11:59pm for the previous week. Your benefit week always runs Sunday through Saturday, and you can only file for a completed week. Most people file on Sunday morning to get it out of the way, but you have the full week to submit it.

I've been trying to call Washington ESD for three weeks to confirm my weekly claim schedule and I can never get through! The phone just rings and rings or gives me a busy signal.

I had the same problem until I found Claimyr - it's a service that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents. Check out claimyr.com, they even have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works. Finally got my questions answered about my weekly claims after weeks of frustration.

Is that legit? I'm desperate at this point but worried about scams.

I always file mine first thing Sunday morning with my coffee. Been doing it for 8 weeks now and never had an issue. Just log into your Washington ESD account, answer the questions about job search activities and any work you did that week, submit it and you're done. Takes maybe 5 minutes.

Same here, Sunday morning routine. Coffee, weekly claim, job search. Keeps everything organized.

Good to know it's quick! I was worried it would be complicated.

WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T MISS THE DEADLINE!!! I forgot to file one week and it took me THREE WEEKS to get it sorted out with Washington ESD. They make you jump through hoops to get that week reinstated.

•

Oh no! What happens if you miss it? Do you lose that week's payment forever?

You can file a late claim but you need good cause for the delay. Washington ESD will review it but there's no guarantee they'll approve the late filing.

Exactly what happened to me. I had to provide documentation and it was a nightmare. Just set a phone reminder every Sunday!

Pro tip: you can file your weekly claim from your phone using the Washington ESD mobile site. I do it every Sunday while I'm still in bed. Way easier than waiting until I get to a computer.

Does the mobile site work well? I've heard some people have issues with it.

Works fine for me on iPhone. Just make sure you're on a good wifi connection.

That's a good idea too. I might do Sunday evenings so I have time to double-check everything.

Be careful about the job search requirements when you file. You need to have completed your required job search activities before filing the weekly claim, not after. I made that mistake early on.

How many job search activities do you need? I'm still figuring out what counts.

Dyllan Nantx

•

For most people it's 3 job search activities per week. Check your requirements in your Washington ESD account - it varies based on your situation.

Yeah mine is 3 per week. I do 2 applications and 1 networking contact usually.

Question - if I work part time during a week, do I still file the weekly claim the same way? I'm worried about reporting earnings wrong.

0 coins

Dyllan Nantx

•

Yes, you still file your weekly claim but you report your gross earnings for that week. Washington ESD will calculate if you still qualify for partial benefits.

Avery Davis

•

Thanks! Do I report the hours I worked too or just the dollar amount?

0 coins

Hattie Carson

•

Both. The weekly claim form asks for hours worked and gross earnings. Be exact with your numbers.

I've been filing weekly claims for 2 months now and I still get nervous every time that I'm going to mess something up. The questions seem straightforward but I overthink everything.

I was the same way at first! It gets easier once you get into the routine. The questions are pretty much the same every week.

This makes me feel better. I thought I was the only one who gets anxious about it.

For anyone confused about timing like I was - your benefit year and weekly claim schedule are in your Washington ESD account under 'Claim Summary'. It shows exactly which weeks you can file for and when.

Perfect! I'll check that section. I was looking everywhere for this info.

Don't forget that if there's a holiday on Monday, it might affect when your payment processes, but it doesn't change when you file your weekly claim. Still file Sunday-Saturday for the previous week.

Good point. I remember being confused about this during Labor Day week.

Just want to follow up on the Claimyr mention from earlier - I used it again yesterday to get through to Washington ESD about a question on my weekly claim status. Worth every penny when you absolutely need to talk to someone and can't waste hours on hold.

I ended up trying it too after your recommendation. Actually got through to someone in about 10 minutes. Game changer!

How much does it cost? I might need this for my adjudication issue.

Check their website claimyr.com for details. To me it's worth it just to avoid the stress of constant busy signals.

One more thing - make sure you're filing for the right week! I accidentally filed for the current week instead of the completed week once and it caused issues with my claim timing.

How do you know which week to file for? The interface is a little confusing.

Dyllan Nantx

The weekly claim form will show you which week ending date you're filing for. Always make sure that Saturday date has already passed.

I set up a calendar reminder every Sunday at 7am to file my weekly claim. Haven't missed one yet and it takes the stress out of remembering.

Kendrick Webb

•

Smart idea! I'm going to set up a reminder too. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Sunday morning routine is the way to go. File the claim, check for job postings, plan out the week.

0 coins

For what it's worth, I've never had an issue filing my weekly claim on Wednesday or Thursday either. As long as you hit that Saturday deadline you're fine, but Sunday just makes it easier to remember.

0 coins

True, but I'd rather get it out of the way early just in case something comes up later in the week.
