Will Memorial Day delay my Washington ESD unemployment payment this week?
Hey everyone, quick question about Memorial Day coming up. I usually get my unemployment payment on Tuesday after filing my weekly claim on Sunday. With the holiday on Monday, will this push back my payment from Washington ESD? I'm cutting it close on rent this month and need to know if I should expect a delay. Anyone dealt with this before during federal holidays?

Federal holidays don't usually affect Washington ESD payment schedules since they process electronically. Your payment should still hit Tuesday as normal if you file by Sunday.

•That's a relief, thanks! I was worried it would be like banks that delay everything for holidays.

•yeah banks are the worst about that stuff but EDD systems run automatically

I've been on unemployment for 8 months and holidays have never delayed my payments. Memorial Day, Labor Day, none of them affected the Tuesday deposit timing.

•Good to know from someone with experience. This is only my second month claiming so wasn't sure how it worked.

•The automated payment system runs regardless of federal holidays. Washington ESD processes payments based on when you submit your weekly claim, not banking holidays.

Actually had this exact worry last Memorial Day and called Washington ESD about it. Spent 2 hours on hold just to find out payments weren't delayed at all lol

•Yeah it was brutal. These days I use Claimyr when I need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD. Way easier than sitting on hold forever.

•what's claimyr? never heard of that

•It's this service that helps you get through to ESD agents without the endless hold times. Check out claimyr.com - they even have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

The payment schedule stays the same but make sure you file your weekly claim before Sunday night. Don't wait until Monday thinking you have extra time because of the holiday.

•Good point! I always file Sunday morning anyway but that's important for people who wait until the last minute.

•Wait what happens if you miss the Sunday deadline? I thought you had until like Tuesday or something

•You have until 11:59 PM Sunday to file for that benefit week. If you miss it, you can still file late but it might delay processing and you'll get a warning.

Washington ESD's payment processing system operates independently of federal banking holidays. The only delays you might see are if there's a technical issue with your bank's processing, but that would be on your bank's end, not ESD's.

•That makes sense. My bank usually processes direct deposits pretty quickly so should be fine.

•What if you have a smaller credit union though? Mine sometimes delays stuff on holidays.

•Even smaller banks and credit unions typically process ACH transfers like unemployment payments on schedule. The delay would be unusual but you could always check with your financial institution if you're concerned.

this is making me paranoid now, what if there IS a delay and I can't reach anyone at washington esd to ask about it??

•Don't stress about it, like everyone said holidays don't affect the payments. But if you ever need to reach ESD quickly, that Claimyr thing mentioned above actually works pretty well.

•might have to check that out, calling ESD directly is such a nightmare

Been claiming since January and my payments have been super consistent every Tuesday regardless of holidays. Memorial Day weekend shouldn't change anything for you.

•Perfect, that's exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks everyone for the reassurance!

The only time I've seen payment delays is when there's an issue with your claim status, like if you're in adjudication or something. Holidays themselves don't cause delays.

•Oh god don't mention adjudication, I'm still waiting on mine from 3 weeks ago

Leo Simmons
•That's rough, adjudication can take forever. Have you tried reaching out to see what's holding it up?

•I've tried calling but can never get through. Maybe I should try that Claimyr service people mentioned.

•Definitely worth trying if you're stuck in adjudication. Getting an actual person on the phone can sometimes speed things up.

Just a heads up for everyone - make sure your job search activities are logged properly over the holiday weekend if you're required to do job searches. Some people forget about that part.

•Good reminder! I need to make sure I get my 3 job searches done this week.

•wait do we still need to do job searches during holiday weeks?

Saleem Vaziri
•Yes, the job search requirement doesn't change for holidays. You still need your required number of activities for the benefit week.

I remember last year around this time there was some confusion about this same thing. Payment schedules stayed normal but a lot of people were asking about it on social media.

•Yeah I guess it's a common worry. I probably should have searched for old posts before asking but glad I did anyway.

•better to ask and get current info anyway, things can change

Bottom line - file your weekly claim by Sunday as usual and expect your payment Tuesday as usual. Memorial Day won't affect the timeline at all.
