Does Washington ESD unemployment pay on Memorial Day - payment schedule question

Quick question about Memorial Day and my unemployment benefits. I usually get my weekly payment on Tuesdays but next week is Memorial Day. Does Washington ESD still process payments on federal holidays or will my unemployment check be delayed? I'm trying to plan my budget and need to know if I should expect it Tuesday or later in the week.

Federal holidays don't affect Washington ESD payment processing since it's all automated now. Your payment should still come on your regular day even if it's Memorial Day.

That's a relief! I was worried I'd have to wait until Wednesday or Thursday.

0 coins

are you sure about that? I thought government offices close on holidays

0 coins

Actually, Washington ESD payments can be delayed on federal holidays. Even though the system is automated, the banks that process the transfers often have delays on holidays. I'd plan for it to be a day late just to be safe.

Now I'm confused - which is it? Does anyone know for sure?

0 coins

I've been getting UI for 4 months and holidays never delayed my payments. The ACH system runs even on federal holidays.

I had this same question last Presidents Day and spent forever trying to call Washington ESD to get an answer. Finally used Claimyr to get through to an actual agent who confirmed that payments aren't delayed by federal holidays since it's all electronic processing now.

What's Claimyr? I've never heard of that before.

It's a service that helps you get through to Washington ESD agents without waiting on hold for hours. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works.

sounds like spam to me honestly

Memorial Day shouldn't affect your Washington ESD payment at all. The only time I've seen delays is when there are system maintenance issues, not federal holidays. Your Tuesday payment should come through as normal.

0 coins

Thanks for the confirmation. I feel better about planning my week now.

0 coins

what about labor day though? that's coming up in a few months

0 coins

Same rule applies to all federal holidays - no delays for unemployment payments in Washington.

0 coins

this is confusing because my cousin in oregon said her payments were delayed on memorial day last year... maybe it varies by state?

0 coins

Yes, each state handles their unemployment system differently. Oregon and Washington have completely different payment schedules and processing systems.

0 coins

Good point - I should have been more specific that this is about Washington state only.

0 coins

I've been tracking my payment dates for months and can confirm that federal holidays don't cause delays for Washington ESD. Christmas and New Year's were the only exceptions I noticed, and even then it was just one day late.

0 coins

That's really helpful data - thanks for keeping track of that!

0 coins

Christmas and NYE delays make sense since those are bank processing holidays, not just federal holidays.

0 coins

why don't you just check your payment history online? you can see the pattern of when payments come through

0 coins

I did check but I only started claiming in March so I haven't been through any federal holidays yet.

0 coins

oh that makes sense then

0 coins

Memorial Day is just another Monday for unemployment payments. The system doesn't care about federal holidays - it's all automated through the banking system which processes ACH transfers 24/7.

0 coins

That's what I was hoping to hear. Thanks for the technical explanation.

0 coins

but banks do close on holidays don't they?

0 coins

Bank branches close but electronic processing continues. It's all automated backend systems.

0 coins

I remember being worried about this exact thing when I first started claiming. Turns out Washington ESD payments are super reliable - they come through on schedule regardless of holidays.

0 coins

It's nice to hear from someone who was in the same situation. Makes me feel less anxious about it.

0 coins

Just want to add that if you ever need to contact Washington ESD about payment issues, I had good luck with Claimyr recently. Saved me hours of trying to get through their phone lines.

0 coins

A couple people have mentioned that service now. Might be worth looking into if I have issues.

0 coins

seems like everyone's pushing this claimyr thing all of a sudden

0 coins

I'm just sharing what worked for me when I couldn't get through to an agent. No affiliation with them.

Federal holidays = no delays for unemployment. State holidays = no delays. System maintenance = possible delays. Bank holidays (like Christmas) = possible one day delay. That's the pattern I've noticed.

0 coins

This is exactly the kind of breakdown I was looking for - thank you!

0 coins

what counts as a bank holiday vs federal holiday though?

0 coins

Bank holidays are when the Federal Reserve is closed - Christmas, New Year's Day, etc. Most federal holidays don't affect banking operations.

0 coins

been getting unemployment for almost a year now and memorial day never caused any payment delays. you should be fine

0 coins

Thanks for the reassurance from someone with long-term experience!

0 coins

The only time my Washington ESD payment was delayed was when I forgot to file my weekly claim on time. As long as you file by Sunday, the payment comes through on your regular day regardless of holidays.

0 coins

Good reminder about filing on time. I always do mine on Saturday to be safe.

0 coins

smart - I cut it close sometimes and stress myself out

0 coins

Just to close the loop on this - Memorial Day will NOT delay your Washington ESD unemployment payment. The consensus from everyone here seems clear on that point.

0 coins

Perfect summary! I feel confident about my payment schedule now. Thanks everyone for the help!

0 coins

glad we could help clear that up for you

0 coins

For future reference, the Washington ESD website has a payment calendar that shows any scheduled delays for the year. Might be worth bookmarking.

0 coins

I'll definitely look for that calendar - sounds like a useful resource to have.

0 coins

didn't know they had that, going to check it out

0 coins

This thread was really helpful. I had the same question but was too embarrassed to ask. Thanks for posting it!

0 coins

Don't be embarrassed - it's better to ask and know for sure!

0 coins

yeah this kind of stuff is confusing when you're new to unemployment

0 coins

One more vote for no delays on Memorial Day. Washington ESD payments are automated and holidays don't affect the system.

0 coins

Appreciate the additional confirmation! The consensus is definitely clear now.

0 coins

I work in banking and can confirm that ACH transfers for government benefits continue processing on most federal holidays. Only Christmas and New Year's typically cause delays.

0 coins

Thanks for the professional insight - that's really helpful to know!

0 coins

good to hear from someone who actually knows the technical side

0 coins

Memorial Day payment should come through normally. If for some reason it doesn't, that Claimyr service mentioned earlier might help you get through to Washington ESD quickly to check on it.

0 coins

Good backup plan to keep in mind. Hopefully I won't need it but nice to know the option exists.

0 coins

Final answer: No delay for Memorial Day payments from Washington ESD. You can count on your regular payment schedule.

0 coins

Perfect - exactly what I needed to know. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread!

0 coins

I can add some perspective as someone who's been through several holiday cycles with Washington ESD. Memorial Day definitely won't delay your payment - the system runs independently of federal holidays. The only times I've seen any delays were during major system upgrades (which they announce in advance) or on the rare occasions when there are banking processing issues around Christmas/New Year's. Your Tuesday payment should hit your account right on schedule, so you can budget accordingly. One tip: if you ever have concerns about a payment, keep your confirmation number from your weekly claim filing - it helps if you need to follow up later.
