Does NYS Department of Labor unemployment pay on Memorial Day holiday?

Quick question - I usually get my unemployment payment on Tuesdays but Memorial Day is coming up next week. Does NYS Department of Labor still process payments on federal holidays? Should I expect my weekly benefit to be delayed or will it come through as normal? I'm trying to plan my budget and bills around this.

Federal holidays don't typically affect NYS Department of Labor payment processing since most of it's automated now. Your payment should still arrive on your normal day. The only time I've seen delays is when there's a system maintenance issue, not because of holidays.

That's a relief! I was worried I'd have to wait until Wednesday or Thursday. Thanks for the quick response.

i think it depends on your bank too? like some banks dont process anything on holidays even if nys sends it out

This is correct. NYS Department of Labor typically releases payments on schedule, but your bank might hold the deposit until the next business day if Memorial Day affects their processing.

I've been getting unemployment for 4 months now and haven't noticed any holiday delays. My direct deposit always comes Tuesday morning regardless of what day it is. The NYS Department of Labor system runs pretty much 24/7 for payments.

Same experience here. Got paid normally on Presidents Day and other holidays this year. The only thing that changes is you can't call their office if you have issues since they're closed on federal holidays.

If you're really worried about timing, I'd suggest setting up direct deposit if you haven't already. The debit card option can sometimes have weird delays during holiday weeks, but direct deposit is super reliable with NYS Department of Labor payments.

I do have direct deposit set up already. Good to know that's the more reliable option!

Just wanted to add that you can also check the NYS Department of Labor website or mobile app to see the status of your payment if you're ever unsure. They usually show when payments are processed and released, which can give you peace of mind during holiday weeks. I've found their payment tracker to be pretty accurate.
