Does Memorial Day affect unemployment weekly claim filing with NYS Department of Labor?

Quick question - I usually file my weekly claim on Monday mornings but this week is Memorial Day. Does the holiday affect when I can file or when payments get processed? The NYS Department of Labor website doesn't really clarify this and I don't want to mess up my claim timing. Anyone know if federal holidays change anything with the unemployment system?

You can still file your weekly claim on Memorial Day - the online system runs 24/7. The holiday might delay payment processing by a day or two since banks are closed, but you won't lose eligibility as long as you file within your normal weekly window.

Thanks! So I should still file Monday even though it's a holiday? Just want to make sure I don't accidentally skip a week.

Federal holidays don't affect your filing requirements or deadlines. You still need to file within your assigned weekly window. The only thing that changes is payment processing - direct deposits might be delayed by one business day due to bank closures. If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor for questions like this, I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me connect with an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works.

Never heard of that service before - does it actually work? I've been trying to call the NYS Department of Labor for weeks about my adjudication.

It worked for me when I needed to check on a payment delay issue. Much easier than sitting on hold for hours or getting hung up on.

The system drives me CRAZY with stuff like this! Why can't they just clearly post holiday schedules somewhere obvious? I spent 30 minutes looking through their site trying to figure out the same thing last year.

File as normal, payment might be delayed. That's it. Simple.
