Does Washington ESD unemployment deposit on holidays - worried about rent
I'm supposed to get my unemployment payment tomorrow but it's a federal holiday. Does Washington ESD still process deposits on holidays or will I have to wait until the next business day? I'm really stressed because my rent is due and I'm counting on this payment. Has anyone else dealt with this timing issue?

Washington ESD doesn't process payments on federal holidays. Your deposit will be delayed until the next business day when banks are open. I learned this the hard way during Memorial Day weekend.

•Ugh that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for letting me know though.

•same thing happened to me last month, had to explain to my landlord why rent was gonna be late

The payment schedule depends on which bank processes your direct deposit. Some banks release funds early, others wait for the actual processing day. Washington ESD sends the payment instruction but your bank controls when you see the money.

•I have Chase - do they usually release early or wait?

Jayden Reed
•Chase typically waits for the official processing date. Credit unions are usually better about early releases.

I had issues with delayed payments before and couldn't get through to Washington ESD to check my claim status. Finally found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which helped me actually reach an agent. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ that shows how it works. Really saved me from hours of busy signals.

•Never heard of that service. Does it actually work for getting through to Washington ESD?

•Yeah it worked for me. Basically handles the calling and waiting so you don't have to sit on hold forever.

WASHINGTON ESD IS THE WORST WITH HOLIDAY SCHEDULING! They never communicate clearly about delays and then act surprised when people are confused about their money.

•I mean, it's pretty standard that government agencies don't operate on federal holidays. Not really their fault.

•They could at least send notifications or update their website with holiday schedules instead of leaving people guessing

check your payment history on the washington esd website, it usually shows the expected deposit date

•Good idea, I'll log in and check that right now.

For future reference, Washington ESD follows the federal holiday calendar. No processing on: New Year's Day, MLK Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Plan accordingly.

•This is really helpful, I should write these dates down so I'm not caught off guard again.

•don't forget about floating holidays like when july 4th falls on a weekend

•Exactly - if the holiday falls on Saturday, Friday becomes the observed holiday. If it falls on Sunday, Monday becomes the observed holiday.

Wait, I'm confused about my payment schedule. I certified on Sunday but my usual payment day is Tuesday. With the holiday does that mean Wednesday or Thursday?

Jayden Reed
•If Tuesday is the holiday, your payment would process Wednesday. The delay is usually just one business day unless there are other issues with your claim.

•Ok that makes sense, thank you for clarifying that.

I always worry about this stuff too. Last time there was a delay I thought something was wrong with my claim and spent the whole day trying to call Washington ESD.

•That's exactly when I used Claimyr - was panicking about a delayed payment and couldn't get through on my own. Turned out to be just a holiday delay but at least I got confirmation from an actual person.

•Yeah having that peace of mind is worth it when you're stressed about money.

pro tip: if you're worried about timing, you can usually see pending deposits in your bank account 1-2 days before they actually post

Christopher Morgan
•I checked and don't see anything pending yet, which is making me more nervous.

Genevieve Cavalier
•dont panic yet, sometimes they dont show as pending until the day before

This happened to me during Labor Day weekend and I ended up having to ask family for help with groceries. Really wish Washington ESD would send out reminders about holiday delays.

•EXACTLY! Basic communication would solve so many problems. How hard is it to send an email or text reminder?

•You can sign up for notifications on the Washington ESD website, though I'm not sure if they include holiday delay alerts.

update us when you get your payment so we know the actual timing

If your payment is delayed beyond the expected business day after the holiday, that's when you should contact Washington ESD to check for claim issues. Holiday delays are normal, but anything longer might indicate a problem.

•How long should you wait before calling? I never know if I'm being impatient or if there's actually a problem.

•I'd give it 2 business days after the holiday. If still nothing, definitely call to check your claim status.

•That's when Claimyr comes in handy again - instead of spending hours trying to get through, you can have them handle the calling process.

•Same here! You'd think I'd be used to it by now but I still panic when payments are late.

•It's so nerve-wracking when you're living paycheck to paycheck and can't afford any delays.

My bank (BECU) usually releases unemployment deposits a day early, even during holiday weeks. Might be worth switching to a credit union if yours always makes you wait.

Christopher Morgan
•That's interesting - I might look into credit unions after this is all over.

Aurora St.Pierre
•Credit unions do tend to be more flexible with deposit timing, especially for regular payments like unemployment.

Check if Washington ESD has a payment calendar on their website. Some states publish these to help people plan around holidays.

Christopher Morgan
•I looked but couldn't find anything specific about holiday payment schedules on their site.

Jayden Reed
•They don't publish a specific calendar, but they do mention that payments follow standard banking business days.

this is why I always try to have a small emergency fund even when on unemployment, just for situations like this
0 coins
Christopher Morgan
•That's smart advice, though it's hard to save anything when unemployment barely covers basic expenses.

•I know its tough but even $20-30 saved up can help with grocery money during payment delays

Were you able to certify for your weekly claim on time? Sometimes people think the payment is delayed when actually they forgot to certify before the deadline.
0 coins
Christopher Morgan
•Yes I certified right after midnight on Sunday like I always do, so that's not the issue.

KaiEsmeralda
•Good, just wanted to rule out that possibility since its a common mistake.

Actually just remembered - I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier when I had adjudication issues last month. Really did help me get through to Washington ESD faster than calling myself.

•How much does something like that cost? Is it worth it for just checking on a delayed payment?

•For peace of mind when you're worried about your claim, I thought it was worth it. Better than spending all day redialing busy numbers.
