Holiday deposit delay? Will ESD unemployment still come tomorrow after Christmas?

I'm stressed about my bills due on the 1st and wondering if our unemployment deposits will still hit accounts on time this week since Monday was Christmas. Anyone know if ESD processes payments on holidays or if we should expect a delay? This is my first time on unemployment during the holidays and I'm cutting it really close with rent. Normally my deposit hits early Wednesday morning but not sure what happens with the holiday schedule. Thanks!

In my experience the deposits usually go through fine even after a holiday. The payment processing is probably automated anyway so I wouldn't worry to much.

Thanks, that's reassuring! I just wasn't sure if there's humans who have to approve things first or if it's all automatic once you've claimed.

ESD processes payments on a regular schedule regardless of holidays, as long as you filed your weekly claim on time. The federal banking system might delay the actual deposit by one business day due to Christmas being a federal holiday. So if you normally get your deposit Wednesday morning, you might see it Thursday instead. But this only affects when the bank processes it, not ESD's payment authorization.

This ⬆️ is correct. The ESD system runs 24/7 but BANKING transfers depend on business days. I've been on UI benefits twice before and holidays always pushed my deposit one day later.

OMG I'M HAVING THE SAME PANIC!!! My landlord doesn't care about holidays and wants his $$$ on the 1st no matter what!!! If my payment is late I'm screwed. Has ANYONE seen their deposit hit already today??? Usually mine comes at 3am but NOTHING so far!!!! 😱

Take a deep breath! Most landlords have a grace period of 3-5 days written into the lease by law. Double-check your lease agreement - you likely have until the 5th before any late fees would apply. As for the deposit, it's highly likely it will arrive by Thursday at the latest.

Thank u...trying not to freak out. My lease says 3 days grace period but my landlord has been super strict lately. Hope ur right about Thursday!

I've been dealing with ESD for years now (seasonal construction worker) and holiday delays are pretty common. If you need to reach ESD about this, save yourself hours of frustration and use Claimyr (claimyr.com). I discovered it last winter when I had a similar holiday payment issue. They got me through to an actual ESD agent in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

Thanks for the tip! If my deposit doesn't come through by tomorrow afternoon I might need this. Did the agent actually help solve your holiday payment issue when you called?

Yes! The agent confirmed my payment was already processed on their end and explained it was just the bank holding it up. Saved me from panicking over nothing. And they could see exactly when it would clear.

my uncle works at a bank and he says all the banking systems were closed on monday for christmas so that means everything gets pushed back one day this week. thats why its not there yet probly

That makes sense. So Wednesday payments become Thursday payments this week.

To clarify how the process works: ESD processes claims internally even on holidays, but ACH transfers (how they send money to your bank account) only occur on banking business days. Since Monday was a federal holiday, the banking system treats Tuesday as the first business day this week. \n\nIf you normally receive your deposit on Wednesday, you'll likely see it Thursday this week. If you filed your weekly claim on Sunday as usual and it shows as \

Thank you for explaining it so clearly! I did file Sunday and it shows as

UPDATE: My deposit just hit my account (11:52pm Tuesday)!!! Check yours!!!! Maybe the delay isn't happening after all!

Just checked and mine isn't there yet, but that's awesome yours came through! What bank do you use? I'm with Wells Fargo and they're usually slower with processing.

I'm with a local credit union. They're usually faster than the big banks with deposits. Hope yours comes soon!!!!

This happens EVERY holiday and people panic EVERY time. Just wait one extra day. Not a big deal. The money is coming. 🙄

Easy to say it's not a big deal when you're not cutting it close with rent. But I get your point - seems like this is normal and I shouldn't worry too much.
