PA UC payment delay due to filing on New Year's Sunday - Will we get paid a day late?
I just realized New Year's Day falls on a Monday in 2025. If I file my weekly PA unemployment claim on Sunday (December 31st), will my payment be delayed because of the holiday? I'm worried about rent being due and need to know if I should expect it a day later than usual. Normally I get paid on Wednesdays when I file on Sunday, but with the holiday, I'm not sure how it works. Does anyone know the payment schedule for holiday weeks? Thanks!

Yes, holiday processing typically causes a one-day delay in PA UC payments. Since New Year's Day is a bank holiday, if you file on Sunday (Dec 31st), you'll likely receive your payment on Thursday instead of Wednesday. This happens with all federal holidays that fall during the processing window. The UC system processes claims as usual, but the banking system that handles the actual transfers doesn't operate on holidays.

•Thank you! That's what I was afraid of. Do you know if there's any way to file earlier to avoid the delay? I'm really tight on money this month.

Last year the same thing happened with July 4th and my payment was definitely delayed by a whole day. Its super annoying when they dont even warn you about this stuff!! My landlord doesnt care about holidays when rent is due. The whole system is set up to make us fail.

•I feel ya. I've been through this multiple times with PA UC during holidays. If you need to get through to someone at unemployment to ask about this or any other issues, try Claimyr (claimyr.com). Saved me hours of busy signals last time I had a payment delay. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZWG3KiHrg2. It connected me to an agent in under 10 minutes when I was dealing with a similar holiday payment issue.

•Unfortunately, filing early doesn't change the processing date. PA UC still processes Sunday claims on Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday). The system won't process your weekly certification until after your claim week officially ends on Saturday at midnight, regardless of when you file. So filing on Saturday vs. Sunday doesn't affect when the payment is processed - only when banks are open affects the deposit date.

This happens EVERY holiday and UC never bothers to update the website or send notifications! I've been on unemployment since October and had the same issue with Thanksgiving. Expect delays of at least 1-2 days anytime there's a federal holiday. It's ridiculous they can't figure out how to automate this better in 2025!

•Actually I got an email notification about holiday delays last month... maybe check your spam folder? The system sends them out automatically now.

Update: Just spoke with someone at PA UC after calling for almost 2 hours. They confirmed payments will be delayed by one day because of New Year's. They also mentioned that if you have the Money Network card, sometimes the deposits can show up late evening on Wednesday instead of Thursday morning, but direct deposits to bank accounts will definitely be Thursday. Hope this helps anyone else wondering!

•Thanks for sharing this update! One additional detail: the delay only affects when the money arrives in your account - it doesn't change your eligibility week or anything with your claim status. Just make sure you still complete your work search activities for the week and document them correctly when filing.

•Yes - I have my 2 work search activities done already for this week. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have any issues with rent. I appreciate everyone's help!
