TWC holiday payment schedule - will it affect my regular deposit date?
Just realized MLK day is coming up and I'm wondering how TWC handles holidays? Will my unemployment payment be delayed, or do they still process payment requests on the holiday? I usually get my deposit on Wednesdays, but with the holiday on Monday I'm worried it might get pushed back. My rent is due that week and I can't afford any delays. Does anyone know if TWC pays on their regular schedule during holidays or should I expect it later? Thanks!

TWC generally follows federal holidays, so their offices will be closed on MLK Day. However, payment processing is mostly automated these days. If you submitted your payment request on your regular filing day, you should still receive your deposit on your normal day. The holiday usually doesn't affect the electronic payment schedule unless your payment request falls directly on the holiday itself.

•That's a relief! So even though TWC offices are closed, the system still processes payments? My filing day is Sunday so I should be ok then?

•Oh no, that's exactly what I'm worried about. Did they give you any warning or explanation about the delay?

I've been on unemployment for about 8 months now, and in my experience, holiday delays usually only happen if there's a problem with your claim that requires manual review. Otherwise, the automated system processes payments as scheduled. TWC actually has this information on their website somewhere - payment request schedules and holidays. But it can be hard to find. Make sure you complete your payment request on your designated day (or the day after if allowed), and double-check that you've correctly reported any work search activities or income. Those are usually what trigger manual reviews that could cause delays.

•THIS!! I had my payment delayed once because I accidentally put down the wrong date for a job interview and it triggered some kind of review. Make sure everything is perfect on your request!

THE HOLIDAY DOESN'T MATTER!!! It's all about whether you have any "issues" on your claim. I was on unemployment last year and my payment was delayed for THREE WEEKS after a holiday because suddenly I had an "issue" that needed to be resolved. And guess what? I couldn't get through to anyone at TWC to find out what the issue even was!!! Their phone lines are IMPOSSIBLE. I kept getting busy signals for days. The TWC doesn't care if we can't pay rent - they'll hold your money for ANY reason and you can't even talk to a real person!!!

•I had a similar problem last month (not holiday related) where my payment got flagged for review. Calling TWC was impossible - busy signals for days. I found a service called Claimyr that got me through to an agent within 30 minutes. They basically call TWC for you and connect you when they get through. Saved me so much frustration. It's at claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh that shows how it works. The agent I spoke with was able to clear the issue on my claim right away.

you might want to call and check your claim status before the holiday just to be safe. i waited till after the holiday once and then found out i had an issue that needed to be fixed and ended up getting my payment a week late. better to know ahead of time

•That's a good point. I'll try to check my claim status before the holiday. I didn't even think about that! Do you just call the regular TWC number to check?

To answer your follow-up question - yes, if your filing day is Sunday, you should be fine. The system will accept your payment request on Sunday as usual, and since MLK Day is Monday, any processing that happens on Tuesday should put you on track for your Wednesday deposit. Even though TWC offices are closed on the holiday, the automated payment system continues to run. The only time you might see a delay is if something in your claim requires manual review by a TWC employee, which wouldn't happen until they return to the office on Tuesday. And yes, you can check your claim status through your online account on the TWC website or by calling their automated Tele-Serv system at 800-558-8321. The automated system is available 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

My friend works at TWC (not in claims tho) and she says payments usually go out normal during holidays since its all automated now. Only if theres something wrong with your claim would there be a delay. Good luck!!

does anybody know if we get paid extra for the holiday? like holiday pay or something?

•No, unemployment benefits don't include holiday pay. You only receive your regular weekly benefit amount regardless of holidays. Holiday pay would only apply if you were employed and your employer offered that benefit.

UPDATE: I checked my claim status on Tele-Serv like you all suggested and everything looks good! No issues showing. I'll still request payment on Sunday as normal and hope for the best. Thanks everyone for the helpful information - really put my mind at ease!

•Glad to hear it! That's good practice to check before holidays. If for some reason your payment is delayed after the holiday, remember you can always contact TWC to find out why. The earlier in the day you call (right when they open), the better chance you have of getting through.
