TWC holiday payment schedule - when will my unemployment deposit arrive?

Hi everyone! I just started getting Texas unemployment benefits last month and I'm trying to figure out the holiday payment schedule. When TWC has a holiday, does that delay when I get my payment deposit? My regular deposit day is Tuesday, but with Memorial Day coming up, I'm worried about whether I'll get my money on time or if it'll be delayed. I need to make sure I have enough for rent that's due on the 1st. Anyone know how this works? Thanks in advance!!

Generally, if a holiday falls on your regular deposit day, your payment will be delayed by one business day. So for Memorial Day (which is a Monday), if your regular deposit is Tuesday, you might get it Wednesday instead. But it can sometimes depend on your bank too - some process these faster than others even with the holiday delay from TWC. Make sure you've already requested your payment on time through the usual process.

Thank you! That makes sense. I've been doing my payment requests every two weeks like they told me to. So basically I should expect it Wednesday then? Just trying to make sure I can cover my bills.

Ya this happened to me at Thanksgiving last year. Got mine a day late and freaked out at first lol

Oh that's good to know! Did it just show up without any notification or anything?

Yep just showed up in my account. No warning or anything from TWC

JUST SO YOU KNOW this is NOT always true!! I had a payment delayed for THREE DAYS after July 4th last year and TWC didn't even care when I called!!! They blame the banks but its THEIR SYSTEM that's the problem!! Make sure you plan ahead because they DO NOT care if you miss paying your bills because of their delays!!!!

The delays aren't usually this bad. In my experience working with the system, holiday delays are typically just one business day. What probably happened in your situation was a combination of the holiday AND some other processing flag on your account. If a payment request is selected for additional review or if there's a work search verification, that can add extra days.

0 coins

Well they never TOLD me there was any "flag" on my account!! How is anyone supposed to know that?? The whole system is designed to make us fail!

i got the same question but with direct deposit does anybody know?

The same rules apply for direct deposit - it will typically be delayed by one business day if the normal deposit day falls on a holiday. Direct deposit is actually the fastest method to receive your benefits from TWC.

TWC follows the standard state holiday schedule, which means they don't process payments on official holidays. For direct deposit, this typically means a one-day delay. For the TWC Debit Card, it can sometimes be 1-2 days depending on when the holiday falls. In your specific case with Memorial Day on Monday and your regular deposit day being Tuesday, you should expect your deposit on Wednesday. TWC processes the payment request on the first business day after the holiday, then it takes 1-2 days to appear in your account depending on your bank's processing time. Important: Always file your payment request on your scheduled day regardless of holidays. The delay happens on TWC's processing end, not on the request submission end.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! I'll definitely keep requesting payment on my regular schedule. One more question - does the TWC website show the holiday schedule somewhere? I want to mark my calendar for future holidays so I can plan better.

Yes, you can find the official TWC holiday schedule on their website under the "Contact TWC" section. They typically post the full year's holiday schedule. You can also call them directly to verify specific holidays, though getting through can be challenging during busy periods.

When I was on unemployment last year I had such a hard time getting through to TWC about a payment delay after a holiday. I ended up using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they actually got me connected to a TWC agent in about 20 minutes! I was shocked because I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh The agent told me that even though there's usually a one-day delay, sometimes there can be additional processing time if the system is backed up after a holiday. Might be worth calling just to check on your specific payment status.

Thanks for the suggestion! I might try that if my payment doesn't come through on Wednesday. I've tried calling TWC before and it's impossible to get through.

does that thing really work? i tried calling like 15 times today and nothing

Yeah it actually does work. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for almost a week to get through. They basically keep dialing for you and jump you into the queue when there's an opening.

One important thing to remember is that even though your payment might be delayed by a day, you still need to request your payment on your regularly scheduled day. Don't wait because of the holiday - that will just cause additional delays. Also, if you're using the TWC debit card, sometimes those payments process a bit differently than direct deposit to your bank account. The official TWC guidance is to expect a one business day delay, but I've found that sometimes my bank would process the deposit late in the evening on the regular day anyway, holiday or not. If you absolutely need the money by a certain date for bills, I'd recommend calling TWC to confirm your specific situation. Every claim can have slightly different processing details.

That's good to know about the payment request - I'll definitely keep doing those on schedule. I have direct deposit set up to my regular bank account, not the TWC card. Hopefully that means it'll be a bit faster? I'm just trying to avoid overdraft fees!

Direct deposit is typically faster than the TWC debit card, so you're already using the quickest method. Just keep in mind that while TWC might process it one day after the holiday, your bank might have its own processing time for incoming ACH transfers. Most banks process these within 24 hours, but some can take up to 48 hours, especially if they also observed the holiday.

I had this happen on Presidents Day and got mine a day late but my cousin didn't get hers until Thursday that same week so I think it depends

0 coins

Your cousin's extra delay might have been due to additional verification requirements or a potential issue with her payment request. When there's a discrepancy in work search activities or earnings reported, TWC sometimes puts a temporary hold on the payment for additional review. This is separate from the standard holiday delay.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful information! I'll plan for Wednesday but be prepared it might be Thursday just to be safe. I'll make sure to keep doing my payment requests on the regular schedule no matter what. This community has been so helpful - I'm new to all this unemployment stuff and it's pretty confusing at first!

That's a smart approach. And don't hesitate to call TWC if your payment is delayed beyond what's expected. Sometimes there can be specific issues with individual claims that need addressing.

Will do! Thanks again everyone!

Just wanted to add that I've been through several holiday cycles with TWC, and in my experience, the one-day delay is pretty standard. However, I'd also recommend checking your online account or the TWC mobile app the day before your expected deposit. Sometimes they'll show the payment status as "processed" or "pending" which can give you a heads up about timing. Also, if you're really tight on money for bills, some banks offer overdraft protection or small emergency loans that might help bridge the gap if there's an unexpected delay. Good luck with everything!

0 coins

That's really helpful advice about checking the TWC app for payment status! I didn't know they showed when payments were processed or pending. I'll definitely keep an eye on that. And you're right about having backup options - I should probably look into what my bank offers for overdraft protection just in case. Thanks for the tip!

I've been on Texas unemployment for about 6 months now and can confirm what others are saying about the one-day delay for holidays. One thing I'd add is to make sure you have notifications turned on for your bank account (text or email alerts) so you know right away when the deposit hits. Also, if you're really worried about timing with rent due on the 1st, you might want to reach out to your landlord ahead of time to let them know there could be a slight delay due to the holiday - most are understanding about government payment delays. I've found that being proactive about communication with bills helps avoid any late fees or issues. The TWC system is generally pretty reliable, just slower around holidays.

This is such great advice! I never thought about reaching out to my landlord proactively about the potential delay. That's really smart - better to give them a heads up than have them wonder where the rent is. I'm definitely going to set up those bank notifications too. It's reassuring to hear from someone who's been dealing with this system for 6 months. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I'm also new to the TWC system and this thread has been incredibly helpful! Just to add one more data point - I had my first holiday delay during Presidents Day this year and it was exactly one business day like most people mentioned. My regular deposit day was Monday (the holiday), so I got it Tuesday instead. One thing that really helped me was setting up multiple alerts - not just from my bank, but also checking the TWC website under "Payment and Claim History" where you can see if your payment has been processed even before it hits your account. This gave me peace of mind knowing it was coming. Also, for future reference, I found out that TWC typically posts their holiday schedule at the beginning of each year, so you can plan ahead for the whole year. Hope your Memorial Day payment goes smoothly!

Thank you for sharing your experience with Presidents Day! That's really helpful to know it was exactly one business day. I like your idea about checking the "Payment and Claim History" section - I didn't even know that existed. Having multiple ways to track the payment status sounds like it would really help with the anxiety of waiting. I'm definitely going to look up that holiday schedule you mentioned so I can plan ahead for the rest of the year. It's so nice to have people in this community who've been through this before and can share what actually works!

I just want to echo what everyone else has said about the one-day delay being pretty standard for holidays. I've been dealing with TWC for about 4 months now and have gone through a couple holiday cycles. One thing that really helped me was creating a simple calendar note for all the major holidays so I could mentally prepare for the delay and budget accordingly. Also, if you're using a credit union instead of a big bank, sometimes they process ACH transfers faster even with the holiday delay - mine has gotten TWC deposits as early as Tuesday evening when they were supposed to come Wednesday. But definitely don't count on that, just a nice surprise when it happens! The most important thing is what others mentioned - keep doing your payment requests on schedule no matter what. I made the mistake once of thinking I should wait because of a holiday and it just created more delays. The TWC system is set up to handle the holiday processing automatically, so stick to your regular routine and you should be fine. Good luck with your Memorial Day payment!

That's a really smart idea about marking holidays on a calendar ahead of time! I'm definitely going to do that so I can budget better and not stress about payment timing. It's interesting that your credit union sometimes processes things faster - I bank with a larger bank so I'll probably stick to expecting the standard delay timeframe. Thanks for emphasizing the point about keeping payment requests on schedule regardless of holidays - that seems to be the key takeaway from everyone's experiences. This whole thread has been so educational for someone new to the system like me!

This has been such an informative thread! I'm also relatively new to the TWC system (about 2 months in) and was wondering about holiday schedules. One thing I learned from my case worker that might help others - if you're ever unsure about a payment delay, you can also check the TWC mobile app under "Correspondence" to see if they've sent any notifications about processing delays for holidays. Sometimes they'll send a message there even if they don't email you directly. Also, I'd recommend taking a screenshot of your payment request confirmation each time you submit it, just in case there are any questions later about whether you requested on time during a holiday week. The system keeps records, but having your own backup never hurts. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it really helps newcomers like us navigate this system!

That's excellent advice about checking the "Correspondence" section in the mobile app! I had no idea they sometimes send notifications there about processing delays. Taking screenshots of payment request confirmations is really smart too - I'm definitely going to start doing that as backup documentation. It's amazing how many helpful tips and workarounds people in this community have discovered through experience. Thanks for sharing what you learned from your case worker - that's insider knowledge that's really valuable for those of us figuring this system out!

I've been on TWC unemployment for about 8 months now and have experienced several holiday payment delays. The one-day delay is definitely the norm, but I wanted to add something that helped me a lot - setting up a small emergency fund specifically for these holiday delays. Even just $50-100 set aside can prevent overdraft fees or late charges when payments are delayed. Also, I discovered that if you use direct deposit and your bank participates in early direct deposit programs (like some online banks offer), you might actually get your TWC payment a day EARLY during normal weeks, which can help offset the holiday delays. My online bank deposits TWC payments on Monday evening when they're scheduled for Tuesday, so when there's a holiday delay to Wednesday, it feels less disruptive. One last tip - the TWC customer service line is actually less busy early in the morning (around 8 AM) if you ever need to call about a delayed payment. I've had much better luck getting through during those hours rather than midday when everyone else is calling.

0 coins

This is such practical advice! Setting up a small emergency fund specifically for holiday delays is brilliant - I never thought about that but it makes perfect sense. Even $50 would probably cover any potential overdraft fees or give me peace of mind about bill timing. I'm definitely going to look into whether my bank offers early direct deposit too. That would be amazing if I could get payments a day early normally to offset the holiday delays. And thanks for the tip about calling TWC at 8 AM - I'll remember that if I ever need to get through to them. It's so helpful to hear from someone who's been navigating this system for 8 months and has figured out all these strategies!

I'm new to the TWC system too and this thread has been incredibly helpful! I've been anxiously wondering about this exact same thing since I have my first holiday coming up. Reading everyone's experiences makes me feel so much better - it sounds like the one-day delay is pretty predictable and manageable. I love all the practical tips people have shared, especially about setting up bank alerts and checking the TWC app for payment status updates. I'm definitely going to start taking screenshots of my payment requests and maybe set aside a small buffer fund like someone mentioned. It's so reassuring to know there's a community of people who understand what it's like navigating this system for the first time. Thanks to everyone for sharing your real experiences - it makes such a difference when you're trying to figure all this out!

Welcome to the community! I'm also pretty new to this whole process (about 3 months in) and I totally understand that anxiety about the first holiday delay. This thread has been amazing - I've learned more in the past hour than I did from the TWC website! I'm definitely going to implement several of these strategies, especially the emergency buffer fund and checking multiple places for payment status. It's such a relief to know that other people have gone through this and can share what actually works versus what the official guidance says. The community here really does make navigating TWC so much less stressful when you're starting out!

I'm also brand new to the TWC system (literally just got approved last week) and this thread is exactly what I needed to see! I was getting really worried about my first Memorial Day payment since I have rent due June 1st too. It's so helpful to hear from people who have actually been through this multiple times - the official TWC website doesn't really explain the real-world timing very well. I'm definitely going to set up bank alerts and check the app for payment status like everyone suggested. The idea about creating a small holiday buffer fund is genius too. Thanks to everyone for sharing such detailed experiences and practical tips! It makes me feel so much more confident about navigating this system.

Welcome to the community and congrats on getting approved! I'm in a similar situation - just got my first TWC payment last month and was totally confused about how holidays work. This thread has been a lifesaver! The one-day delay seems pretty standard from what everyone's saying, so you should be good for your June 1st rent if your normal payment day is around Tuesday. I'm definitely taking notes on all these tips too - especially the bank alerts and emergency buffer fund ideas. It's amazing how much more helpful real people's experiences are compared to the official TWC info. Good luck with your first holiday payment cycle!

I'm really glad I found this thread! I just started receiving TWC benefits a few weeks ago and was completely confused about how holidays affect payment timing. Reading everyone's experiences here has been so much more helpful than anything I could find on the official TWC website. The consensus seems to be that a one-day delay is pretty standard, which gives me a lot more confidence about planning my budget around Memorial Day. I especially appreciate all the practical tips people have shared - setting up bank alerts, checking the TWC app for payment status, taking screenshots of payment requests, and even creating a small emergency buffer fund. These are the kinds of real-world strategies that make such a difference when you're new to the system. Thanks to everyone for creating such a supportive community for people navigating unemployment benefits!
