Will PA UC payments be delayed because of Memorial Day 2025?

Hi everyone, I'm supposed to get my UC payment on Monday next week but that's Memorial Day. Does anyone know if PA unemployment benefits get delayed because of the holiday? This is my first time on unemployment and I need to make sure I have enough money for rent. Will they send the payment early or will it come a day late? Thanks for any help!

Yes, payments are typically delayed by one business day when there's a holiday. So if your regular payment would fall on Memorial Day (Monday), you'll likely receive it on Tuesday instead. This happens with all bank holidays throughout the year. I've been through this several times with my claims.

Thanks! Do they ever notify you about these delays or do I just need to expect it?

it depneds on ur payment method. direct deposit might be delayed but if u have the Money Network card sometimes it shows up early before the holiday actually happens!

This is NOT correct information! PA UC NEVER pays early before holidays - they only delay. I've been on unemployment three separate times and they ALWAYS delay payments for holidays. Don't get people's hopes up with wrong info!!!

The holiday delay is standard procedure for Pennsylvania Unemployment. The PA Treasury doesn't process payments on federal holidays, so yes, your payment will be delayed by one business day. This applies to both direct deposit and Money Network card payments. The system is automated, so you won't receive any special notification about the holiday delay - it's just expected that claimants understand this policy.

Just sharing my experience from last year - my payment was supposed to come on Presidents Day but came on Tuesday instead. No big deal but plan accordingly!

If you're worried about reaching someone at UC to discuss your payment situation, I had good luck using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual person at the unemployment office. They helped me connect with an agent when I had a similar payment delay issue. There's a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 - definitely easier than waiting on hold for hours.

I'll check that out if I need to talk to someone! Though sounds like this delay is normal so I probably won't need to call.

I've been on and off unemployment unfortunately for the past few years and yes every single holiday causes a payment delay. Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, all of them. One time my rent was due right after a holiday and I nearly got a late fee because I didn't plan for the delay. Now I always mark my calendar for holiday weeks so I can budget accordingly.

Just want to add that if you're really tight on funds and need to know the exact timing, you can usually check your bank account or card balance online late Sunday night or early Tuesday morning to see if the payment has processed. Sometimes the funds show up as pending before they're fully available. Also, if you have recurring bills that auto-deduct on Mondays, you might want to call those companies to let them know about the potential delay so you don't get hit with overdraft fees. Been there and learned the hard way!

That's really helpful advice about checking for pending payments! I didn't think about the auto-pay issue either - definitely going to double check what bills I have coming out on Monday. Thanks for sharing that tip!

I work for a bank and can confirm what others have said - ALL government payments including unemployment benefits follow federal banking holidays. Memorial Day is a federal holiday so payments that would normally process on Monday will be delayed until Tuesday. The ACH (Automated Clearing House) system that processes these payments doesn't operate on federal holidays. One tip: if you use direct deposit, the payment might show as "pending" in your account on Monday evening, but won't be available to spend until Tuesday morning. Also worth noting that this same delay happens for Social Security, disability payments, tax refunds, and any other government-issued payments.

This is super helpful information from someone who actually works in banking! I'm new to all this and didn't realize that ALL government payments get delayed the same way. The tip about payments showing as pending on Monday evening is really useful - I'll know to check for that so I'm not worried if it doesn't show up right away Tuesday morning. Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Just wanted to share that I went through the same thing last Memorial Day when I was new to UC. The one-day delay is definitely standard, but what helped me was calling my landlord ahead of time to let them know my payment would be delayed by a day due to the holiday. Most landlords are understanding about government payment delays if you give them a heads up. Also, if you're really cutting it close with rent money, some banks will waive overdraft fees if you call and explain that you're waiting on a delayed government payment - doesn't always work but worth trying if needed!

That's really smart advice about calling your landlord ahead of time! I never would have thought to do that but it makes total sense - most people probably understand that government payments get delayed for holidays. The tip about asking banks to waive overdraft fees is also really good to know. I'm fortunate that my rent isn't due until later in the week, but I'll definitely keep these strategies in mind for future holidays. It's so helpful to hear from people who have actually been through this situation before!

I've been receiving UC payments for about 6 months now and can confirm what everyone else is saying - Memorial Day will definitely delay your payment by one business day. What I found helpful was setting up text alerts through my bank so I get notified as soon as the deposit hits my account on Tuesday. Also, if you use a credit union instead of a big bank, sometimes they're more flexible about making funds available earlier, but that varies by institution. The delay is frustrating but it's been consistent in my experience - better to plan for Tuesday and be pleasantly surprised if it somehow comes earlier than to count on Monday and be short on cash!
