Will PA UC payments be delayed due to Thanksgiving holiday 2025?
Hey everyone, just realized Thanksgiving is next week and I'm wondering if our UC payments will be delayed because of the holiday? This is my first time collecting unemployment during a major holiday and I need to make sure I budget correctly. Anyone know if PA typically delays payments when holidays fall on a Thursday? Thanks in advance!

Yes, holiday schedules definitely affect PA UC payment processing. Since banks are closed on Thanksgiving (and the Friday after is often affected too), payments that would normally hit your account Wednesday/Thursday will likely be delayed until the following Monday. The UC system itself might process claims on schedule, but the actual deposits take longer because of the banking holiday.

•Thanks! Do you know if this affects direct deposit the same as the Money Network card? This is stressing me out because my rent is due the Monday after Thanksgiving.

The official policy is that if your regular payment date falls on a holiday, it will process on the next business day. But in practice, many payments get delayed by 2-3 business days during holiday weeks due to increased volume and reduced staffing. I recommend filing your weekly certification as early as possible on Sunday to get in the queue before others. Also, make sure your work search activities are properly recorded to avoid any additional delays.

•THIS!!! File early on Sunday morning!! I always do mine right at 6am when the system opens and I get paid faster than my friend who waits until Sunday night.

I'm in the SAME BOAT!! My landlord doesn't care about holidays but PA UC sure does!!! Last year during 4th of July my payment was a FULL WEEK late and I got hit with late fees. The system is totally rigged against us. They expect us to file on time but then they can just delay payments whenever they want because of "holidays" we can't even afford to celebrate. RIDICULOUS!!!!

I had this issue during Labor Day and found a service called Claimyr that helped me actually reach someone at PA UC to confirm when my payment would arrive. It's at claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. I was skeptical but it got me through to an agent in about 30 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The agent told me exactly when to expect my holiday-delayed payment which helped me plan.

•I've never heard of this before. Did it actually work? I've been trying to get through to UC for other questions too so this might be helpful.

•Yes, it really worked for me. I was surprised too because I'd already wasted hours trying to call on my own. The UC agent I spoke with confirmed my payment would be processed the Monday after the holiday but might not hit my bank until Tuesday or Wednesday. At least having that info helped me make arrangements with my landlord.

One time my payment was supposed to come on July 4th and it didn't show up until July 8th! My sister got hers July 7th tho and we filed same day. I think it depends on your bank too some process faster than others during holidays.

To add some important details: The PA Treasury actually processes payments in batches. During holiday weeks, they often front-load some payments (process them early) and delay others depending on claim volume. If your biweekly claim cycle puts your payment date directly on or after Thanksgiving, you'll almost certainly experience a delay. Money Network card payments sometimes process a day faster than direct deposits during holidays, but that's not guaranteed. The best approach is to file your weekly certification as early as possible on Sunday and ensure your work search activities are complete and accurate to avoid any holds.

•This is really helpful, thanks! I'll make sure all my work search activities are properly recorded. I've been doing the required activities but sometimes I forget to log all the details correctly.

•That's not accurate. The UC service centers maintain operations throughout holiday weeks, though with reduced staffing. The automated systems for filing biweekly claims run 24/7 including holidays. The processing delays are primarily due to banking holidays, not UC office closures.

i always keep an extra week of money saved just for this reason. holidays always mess up payments.

Thanks everyone for the information! I'm going to file early Sunday morning and make sure all my work search requirements are perfect. I'll also talk to my landlord to see if I can get a few days extension just in case the payment is delayed. Really appreciate all the advice!

•That sounds like a good plan. For future reference, you might want to check the PA UC holiday schedule which is usually posted on their website before major holidays. They typically list expected processing delays.

Great advice from everyone here! I went through this exact situation during Memorial Day weekend and my payment was delayed by 3 business days. One thing I'd add is to screenshot your weekly certification confirmation after you submit it on Sunday - sometimes the system glitches during high-volume periods and having that proof can save you headaches if there are any issues. Also, if you're really tight on money, some food banks and community organizations have special holiday assistance programs that can help bridge the gap during payment delays. Hope your payment comes through smoothly!

•This is such helpful advice, thank you! I never thought about screenshotting the confirmation - that's really smart. Do you know if the community assistance programs you mentioned require proof of the payment delay, or can you apply based on just being between payments? I'm definitely going to look into this as a backup plan.
