PA UC direct deposit delay due to Memorial Day - Will payment hit Thursday instead of Wednesday?

Filed my biweekly claim on Sunday (5/28) as usual, but with Monday being Memorial Day, I'm confused about when my payment will actually post. Normally I see my UC payment hit my Money Network card on Wednesday, but since Monday was a holiday, does that push everything back a day? Will I get paid Thursday (6/1) instead? Really need to know because I have bills scheduled to come out Wednesday afternoon and I'm cutting it close this month. Anyone else in the same boat or know how holidays affect PA UC payment schedule?

this happens every holiday lol yes it will prob be thursday. same thing happend to me for presidents day

Thanks! Do you remember if it was just one day later or sometimes two days? Getting nervous about those automatic payments...

Holiday delays are standard with PA UC. When a banking holiday falls on a Monday, your payment will typically process on Tuesday and be available Thursday instead of Wednesday. This is because the ACH transfers don't process on federal holidays. The PA UC system still processes claims on schedule (that's why you could file Sunday), but the banking side of things gets delayed by one business day.

EXACTLY what happened to me on MLK day too!!! I waited all day Wednesday refreshing my account like crazy and NOTHING showed up. Then Thursday morning it was there. The UC website should really make this clearer somewhere because people rely on this money being on time!!!!

That makes sense, appreciate the info. Guess I need to move some due dates around for this month.

If you're worried about timing with bills, have you tried calling the UC office to verify? I was in a similar situation last year and needed to know exactly when my payment would post. After trying for days with busy signals, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The agent confirmed my payment date and I was able to adjust my bill payments accordingly. Saved me from potential overdraft fees!

JUST A WARNING TO EVERYONE: Sometimes holiday delays can be even WORSE than just one day!! Last Christmas my payment was delayed by THREE DAYS because of how the holiday fell!!! If you have important bills, ALWAYS give yourself extra buffer time around holidays. The UC system literally doesn't care if your rent is due or whatever. I learned this the hard way when I got hit with late fees because I was counting on my UC money being only one day late.

This is accurate, but I should clarify that Christmas is somewhat unique because many banking institutions take additional processing days around major holidays like Christmas and New Year's. For most standard federal holidays like Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc., the delay is typically just one business day for direct deposits. The UC system actually processes claims on schedule, but the banking/ACH transfer system is what causes the delays.

wait i filed on sunday too and got my deposit this morning (wednesday). im confused why yours would be different? i have direct deposit to PNC bank not the UC card though if that matters

Really? That's strange. I'm using the Money Network card they issue. Maybe different banks process things differently with holidays? Anyone else with the UC debit card specifically know if they got paid today or if it's coming tomorrow?

To follow up on this - the Money Network card specifically can have different processing times than direct deposit to personal bank accounts. Some banks may process pending ACH transfers differently. This is why some claimants with direct deposit to personal accounts might see funds today while Money Network card holders may not see it until tomorrow. If you're consistently having timing issues, switching to direct deposit to your personal bank account might give you faster access to your funds.

Thanks for explaining! I'll definitely look into switching to direct deposit to my regular bank account. Sounds like that might be faster.

For reference, here's how PA UC payment processing typically works with holidays: 1. You file your biweekly claim (Sunday in your case) 2. PA UC processes claims the next business day (Tuesday, since Monday was a holiday) 3. ACH transfers are initiated that same day 4. Funds typically appear in accounts 1-2 business days after processing Money Network cards sometimes take a full extra day compared to direct deposit to personal bank accounts. For future reference, you can check your payment status on your UC dashboard under "Payment Information" to see when it was processed. This can help you predict when funds will be available.

good to know! i always wondered why sometimes my friend gets paid before me when we file on the same day

UPDATE: Payment hit my card this morning (Thursday)! Thanks everyone for the help. I'm definitely going to switch to direct deposit to my bank account instead of using this card from now on.

Glad you got your payment sorted out! For anyone else dealing with this, I've found that setting up text alerts through your bank can really help with timing. Most banks will send you a notification as soon as a deposit hits, so you don't have to keep checking your balance obsessively. Also, if you're switching to direct deposit like Oliver mentioned, make sure to do it well before your next claim period - sometimes it takes a pay cycle or two to fully switch over from the Money Network card.

Great tip about the text alerts! I wish I had known about that sooner. Quick question - when you switch from the Money Network card to direct deposit, do you need to do anything special to close the card account or does it just automatically become inactive once the direct deposit kicks in?
