Will ESD unemployment payments process on MLK Day 2025?
Anyone know if ESD processes unemployment payments on Martin Luther King Jr. Day? My weekly claim was approved yesterday, but I'm wondering if the holiday will delay my deposit until Tuesday or Wednesday? This is my first time filing during a federal holiday and I've got rent coming up. Thanks!

Federal holidays like MLK Day typically delay ESD payment processing by one business day. Since banks are also closed today, even if ESD did process it (which they don't), it wouldn't hit your account until tomorrow at the earliest. Plan for Wednesday to be safe.

The whole system is RIDICULOUS! Why can't they program their computers to process payments regardless of holidays?? I've been on UI for 4 months and EVERY holiday causes delays. Meanwhile bills don't wait and my landlord doesn't care about federal holidays! This is how they keep people struggling!!

The banking system that ESD uses operates on the federal reserve schedule, which observes all federal holidays. Even if ESD wanted to process payments, the ACH system they use for transfers would not be operational today.
