EDD payment delay due to holiday - when will funds actually arrive?
So frustrated right now. Today was supposed to be my payment date according to my UI Online account, but of course it's a holiday (President's Day). My rent is due in 3 days and I NEED this money. Does anyone know how the holiday affects the payment timeline? Will it just be delayed by one day or could it take even longer? My claim history still shows 'paid' but nothing has hit my Money Network card yet. Do I need to call EDD about this or will it automatically process tomorrow? This is my first time dealing with a holiday during my unemployment claim and I'm super anxious about it.

Holidays always delay EDD payments by at least one business day. Since today (Monday) is President's Day, your payment will most likely post to your Money Network card tomorrow (Tuesday). The claim history showing 'paid' means EDD has processed it on their end, but the banking system is what's closed for the holiday. You definitely don't need to call about this - it's a standard delay that happens with every bank holiday.

•Thanks for this info! Relieved to hear it should show up tomorrow. Do you know what time of day they usually deposit? Morning or could it be late evening?

This happens EVERY SINGLE HOLIDAY and EDD never bothers to put a notice on their website explaining the delay!!! It's ridiculous how they leave people hanging especially when we're all living paycheck to paycheck. I've been on UI for 5 months and every holiday is the same story - complete radio silence from EDD while thousands of people panic about their money. The system is designed to be confusing on purpose!!!!

Here's what happens with payments and holidays: 1. If your certification is processed and shows 'paid' in UI Online, the payment has been authorized by EDD 2. Bank transfers don't process on federal holidays (like today) 3. Payments will resume processing tomorrow morning 4. Money Network usually receives the deposit by midday Tuesday 5. You should see funds available by Tuesday afternoon/evening If you don't see the payment by Wednesday afternoon, then you might want to contact EDD. But this is completely normal for holiday weeks.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll wait until tomorrow evening before worrying then. Really appreciate the detailed explanation!

wait i'm confused are we talking about the certification or the actual payment? because i certified yesterday and it still says pending not paid... is that because of the holiday too or is that a different issue?

•That's different. If yours says "pending" instead of "paid," the holiday isn't the issue. Your certification might need review. If it stays pending for more than 3 days, you should contact EDD about that.

If you need to get through to EDD, good luck with just calling the regular number! I spent TWO WEEKS trying to get through about my payment delay. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to a rep in about 20 minutes. They have a system that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold for you, then calls when an agent is ready. Saved me so much stress! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km But for your situation, I agree with everyone else - just wait until tomorrow for the holiday delay to clear up. No need to call unless it doesn't show up by Wednesday.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I'm going to wait until tomorrow like everyone suggested, but I'm saving that Claimyr site in case I need it later. The EDD phone system is absolutely brutal to deal with.

For future reference, most banks and payment systems (including Money Network) follow the Federal Reserve holiday schedule. So any federal holiday will delay electronic transfers by at least one business day. I keep a calendar of federal holidays just so I know when to expect delays with my UI payments. It's saved me a lot of stress over the past year! The key thing to remember is that if your UI Online shows "paid" then EDD has done their part - it's just the banking system that's closed.

•That's such a smart idea to keep a federal holiday calendar! I'm definitely going to do that now. This whole experience taught me that "paid" in the system really does mean EDD processed it, and it's just the banking delays we have to wait for. Thanks for the tip - would have saved me so much anxiety if I'd known this ahead of time!

I've been on unemployment for about 8 months now and holidays used to stress me out so much until I learned the pattern. What everyone's saying is absolutely correct - if your UI Online shows "paid" then you're good to go, it's just the banking delay. I've noticed that Money Network usually processes the deposits in batches, so some people get theirs earlier in the day and others later. Don't panic if yours comes a few hours after others report getting theirs. The longest I've ever had to wait for a holiday delay was until Wednesday evening, but that was during a week with multiple holidays. One business day delay is the norm for single holidays like President's Day.

•This is really reassuring to hear from someone with 8 months of experience! I'm pretty new to unemployment (this was only my second payment) so I had no idea what was normal. The batch processing thing makes sense - I was wondering why some people were reporting getting their money at different times throughout the day. Good to know that even Wednesday evening is still within the normal range for holiday delays. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Just want to add my experience for anyone else who might be dealing with this in the future - I've been on UI for about 6 months and every single federal holiday has caused exactly a one business day delay when my status shows "paid". The key thing I learned is to not even bother checking your Money Network card on the actual holiday because the banking systems are completely offline. I usually just mark my calendar for the next business day and check then. It's also worth noting that if you have direct deposit to a regular bank account instead of the Money Network card, the timing is usually very similar - still delayed by federal holidays but typically processes the next business day. The stress definitely gets easier once you know the pattern!

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I'm completely new to all of this and had no idea that federal holidays would affect payments. The tip about not even bothering to check on the actual holiday is gold - I probably checked my Money Network card like 10 times yesterday which just made my anxiety worse. I'm definitely going to start keeping track of federal holidays on my calendar now so I know what to expect. It's so helpful to hear from people who've been through this multiple times. Makes me feel a lot less alone in figuring all this out!
