EDD Direct Deposit not showing up in my bank account after 5 days - who do I contact?

Hi everyone, I'm freaking out a little because my unemployment payment from EDD was supposedly sent via direct deposit on Friday (5 days ago), but it's STILL not in my bank account! This is my first time using direct deposit with EDD - I just switched from the debit card last month. When I log into UI Online, it shows the payment as 'paid' on 5/12, but there's absolutely nothing in my bank account. I've triple-checked that I entered my banking info correctly when I set it up. Has anyone else experienced this delay? Do I need to call EDD or Money Network or my bank? I've got rent due next week and I'm starting to panic.

You need to contact Money Network, not EDD. According to EDD's Direct Deposit FAQs, Money Network handles all the direct deposit transfers once EDD sends them the payment. Check your email (including spam folder) for a message from Money Network that might explain why the payment was rejected, along with a trace number. If you don't see an email, call Money Network at 1-800-684-7051 and they can help track it down.

Thanks for the quick response! I didn't know Money Network was the one handling this. I'll check my spam folder right now and call them if I don't see anything. I assumed I had to contact EDD directly.

I just checked and all my banking info looks correct in the system. The routing and account numbers match my bank statements. Did you have to contact someone to fix it or did they just send it again automatically?

As others have said, this is a Money Network issue, not an EDD issue. Here's exactly what you need to do: 1. Wait the full 3 business days for final status (which you've done) 2. Check for emails from Money Network with a trace number 3. Call your bank with the trace number to see if they rejected it 4. If your bank has no record of it, call Money Network at 1-800-684-7051 Money Network handles everything related to payments once EDD approves them, whether it's the debit card or direct deposit. This is clearly stated in the Direct Deposit FAQs on the EDD website under the payment options section.

Thank you for these clear steps! I just spent 20 minutes searching my emails and found nothing from Money Network. I'll call my bank first thing tomorrow morning and then contact Money Network if needed.

I had somthing similar happen and it was becuz my bank had a 'hold' on the deposit for 5 days. Some banks do that with government deposits, especially if its ur first direct deposit from them. Check with ur bank's customer service, might just be sitting in pending!

I didn't even think of that! I just logged into my online banking and checked the pending transactions section but don't see anything there. But I'll definitely ask about holds when I call them tomorrow.

The EDD system is such a joke. They push everyone to use direct deposit claiming it's faster and more secure, then your money disappears into thin air! I've been on unemployment twice and BOTH times had issues with payments. First time my card never arrived, second time direct deposit failed. Their system is deliberately designed to be confusing so they can keep our money longer. EDD says call Money Network, Money Network says call your bank, your bank says call EDD... endless runaround while bills pile up. Good luck getting a human on the phone at ANY of them!

I understand your frustration, but there actually is a clear process for this. Money Network is the payment processor that handles all EDD payments, whether to debit cards or direct deposit. They're separate from EDD, which is why you need to contact them directly for payment issues. The process works for most people, but banking errors do happen occasionally.

If you're struggling to reach someone at Money Network (their wait times are horrible), you might want to try Claimyr. They helped me get through to an actual human when I had a similar issue with my direct deposit. I think they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. Saved me hours of frustration.

One important thing to note - if this is your first direct deposit payment from EDD, sometimes it takes longer to process. The first payment after switching from the debit card to direct deposit can take up to 5-7 business days instead of the usual 1-3 days. This isn't always mentioned in their FAQs but it's common. If you're past that timeframe, definitely follow up with Money Network.

That's really helpful to know. Today is business day 5, so maybe I'm still within the normal timeframe for a first deposit. I'll give it until tomorrow before I start making calls. Thanks for mentioning this!

Just to clarify something I'm seeing in the comments - when you check your UI Online account, does it specifically say "paid" with the payment type listed as "direct deposit"? Sometimes payments default back to the debit card if there's an issue with direct deposit setup. If that happened, you'd need to contact Money Network about your debit card status instead.

I just double-checked and you're right to ask! It says "paid" but under payment type it shows "debit card" not direct deposit. What the heck? I definitely enrolled in direct deposit last month and got a confirmation. Does this mean they sent it to my old card which I haven't even been using??

Yes, that's exactly what it means! The payment went to your debit card, not your bank account. This happens sometimes if your direct deposit info wasn't processed correctly. Your Money Network debit card should still be active, so check the balance on that card. If you've lost the card, you'll need to contact Money Network to get a replacement.
