EDD Direct Deposit to Chime delayed after switching from Money Network - payment shows 'paid' but no deposit yet
I'm freaking out a bit right now. I've been getting my UI benefits on my Money Network card for the past 3 months, but I decided to switch to direct deposit with my Chime account last week. I certified yesterday morning and my UI Online account already shows 'paid' status (which is normal timing for me), but the money hasn't shown up in my Chime account OR on my Money Network card. In the past, my Money Network card would always get funded Sunday night/early Monday morning after certifying. It's now Tuesday and I've got nothing! Has anyone else switched from Money Network to Chime specifically? How long did it take for your first direct deposit to hit your account? I'm worried something got messed up with my banking info or that my money is just floating around in cyberspace somewhere. I've got rent due in 3 days!

The first direct deposit after switching payment methods almost ALWAYS takes a little longer. When I switched from Money Network to my credit union account last year, the first payment took about 3 business days longer than usual. After that initial delay, my payments started coming in consistently earlier than they ever did with the card. Give it until Thursday before you really start to worry. If nothing shows up by then, you should call EDD to make sure they have your correct account info.

•Thank you! That's reassuring to hear. I was worried I might have entered something wrong. Do you know if there's a way to verify my bank info on UI Online after I've already submitted it? I can't seem to find that option anywhere.

I've had Chime for my EDD direct deposits since January and they ALWAYS show up 1-2 days earlier than when I had my credit union. BUT the first deposit took like 4-5 days to process. EDD systems are super old and switching payment methods triggers some kind of manual review I think. After your first one hits Chime though, it'll be super consistent. Hang in there!!

•not everyone has the same experience with chime fyi. my roommate has chime and somtimes it comes early and somtimes it doesnt. depends on when edd processes the batch i think

•That's true - I should've mentioned it can vary. My experience has been consistently early deposits with Chime, but I've heard others say it can be hit or miss. Either way, that first deposit after switching definitely takes extra time for processing!

DONT PANIC!!! I swtched from MN card to Wells Fargo direct deposit last month and my first payment took 5 WHOLE DAYS to hit my account!!! I was going crazy thinking my money was gone forever lol. But after that first delay, everything went back to normal the next certification. The EDD system is from like 1985 or something ridiculous, its a miracle anything works at all tbh.

•5 days?! Ugh, that's stressful but good to know I'm not alone. You're right about their system being ancient. Every time I call about anything it seems like they're having to work with technology from the Stone Age.

If you're worried about your direct deposit information being correct, you can check it by logging into UI Online, going to 'Profile', then 'Payment Method', and it should show the last 4 digits of your account number. If those match your Chime account, your information is in the system correctly. As others have mentioned, the first payment after switching typically takes longer to process - it's an internal verification procedure. According to EDD guidelines, direct deposits should post within 24-48 hours after showing 'paid' status, but the first one can take up to 5-7 business days due to additional security protocols.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! I just checked and the last 4 digits are correct, so that's a relief. I'll wait a few more days before panicking. It's helpful to understand there's actually a reason for the delay rather than something being wrong.

•I've been trying to reach EDD for 3 days about a different issue and can't get through at all. The phone system is completely jammed. Have you tried using Claimyr? My brother recommended it after he was in the same situation last month. It's a service that helps you get through to EDD agents by navigating their phone system. Saved him hours of frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out.

•Honestly, the Money Network card fees were driving me crazy. I got charged for ATM withdrawals, and there's that inactivity fee if you don't use it regularly. Plus I just prefer having everything in one account. If I'd known it would cause this much stress though, I might have waited until after rent was due to make the switch!

•oh yeah those fees are annoying! i just transfer the whole balance to my regular bank each time to avoid them. but direct deposit is def more convenient in the long run

Just to update you all - my deposit finally hit my Chime account this morning! It took exactly 6 business days from when my UI Online status changed to 'paid.' Thanks everyone for the reassurance and for sharing your experiences. For anyone switching payment methods in the future, definitely plan for a delay with that first payment!

•Great news! So glad it worked out. And thanks for coming back to update - it's helpful for others who might have the same issue in the future.

This is such a common issue when switching payment methods with EDD! I went through the same stress when I switched from my old bank to a new one last year. The wait is agonizing when you have bills due, but it's totally normal for that first payment to take longer. One thing that helped me was setting up low balance alerts on my old payment method (Money Network in your case) just in case there was any mix-up and the payment went there instead. Also, make sure to keep an eye on your UI Online account to see if the payment status changes at all. The fact that it shows 'paid' is a good sign - your money is in the system, it's just taking the scenic route to your new account!

•That's really smart advice about setting up alerts on the old payment method! I didn't even think about that possibility. I'm definitely going to do that just in case. It's reassuring to hear from so many people who've been through this same situation. The waiting game is definitely nerve-wracking when you're not sure if it's normal or if something went wrong. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Switched from Money Network to my Bank of America account last Friday, certified Sunday, shows 'paid' on UI Online but still no deposit as of Wednesday morning. Reading through all these comments is making me feel so much better - I was starting to think I messed something up with my routing number or something. It's crazy that EDD's system is so outdated that switching payment methods causes this much delay, but at least it seems to be totally normal. Going to wait until Friday before I start really worrying. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, this thread is exactly what I needed to see!

•I'm in the same boat! Just switched from Money Network to my credit union account and it's been 4 days since my status showed 'paid' with no deposit yet. This thread has been a lifesaver - I was convinced I'd somehow messed up my account number or something. It's wild that in 2025 we're still dealing with payment delays because of outdated government systems, but knowing it's normal makes the wait so much more bearable. Fingers crossed both of our deposits show up by Friday! The anxiety is real when you're counting on that money for bills.

I just wanted to chime in (no pun intended!) as someone who works in banking - this delay is 100% normal and expected when switching from a prepaid card to direct deposit. What's happening behind the scenes is that EDD has to verify your new banking information through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) system, which includes making sure the account is valid and can receive deposits. This verification process typically adds 3-7 business days to your first payment. Once that initial verification is complete, your future payments should actually arrive faster than they did with Money Network since direct deposits generally process quicker than prepaid cards. The good news is that your payment showing as 'paid' means EDD has already debited the funds from their account - your money is definitely on its way, it's just stuck in the verification pipeline. Hang tight!

•This is such helpful insight from someone who actually works in the banking industry! I had no idea about the ACH verification process - that explains so much about why the first payment takes longer. It's actually reassuring to know there's a legitimate technical reason for the delay rather than just "EDD's system is old" (though that's probably also true lol). The fact that future payments should be faster than Money Network makes the wait worth it. Thanks for breaking down what's actually happening behind the scenes!

I switched from Money Network to Chase about 6 months ago and went through this exact same panic! The first payment took a full week to show up, and I was calling Chase daily thinking something was wrong. Turns out it's just how EDD processes new direct deposit accounts - they basically treat it like you're a brand new claimant for that first payment. The ironic thing is that after that initial delay, my Chase deposits now come in Sunday night instead of Monday morning like the Money Network card used to. So even though this wait is stressful, you'll probably end up getting your money faster in the long run. Just make sure you have enough buffer for bills during this transition period - lesson I learned the hard way!

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I'm in day 3 of waiting for my first Chime deposit after switching from Money Network and was starting to spiral. The idea that I'll actually get paid faster once this initial verification is done makes the stress worth it. I wish EDD would put some kind of warning about this delay when you switch payment methods - would save so many people from panicking! Thanks for sharing your timeline, it helps to know a week is within the normal range.

I went through this exact same thing when I switched from Money Network to my local credit union last summer! The anxiety is so real when you're waiting for that first deposit after making the change. Mine took 5 business days to finally show up, and I was checking my account obsessively every few hours. What really helped me was calling my bank directly (not EDD) to confirm they hadn't received any pending deposits - at least that way I knew the delay was on EDD's end and not because of some issue with my account. The good news is that once that first payment finally hits, all your future deposits will be so much more reliable and faster than Money Network ever was. I actually get my payments a day earlier now than I used to with the card. Hang in there - your money is definitely coming, it's just taking the long way around through EDD's ancient system!

•That's such a smart tip about calling your bank directly to check for pending deposits! I never thought of that but it would definitely help narrow down where the holdup is. I'm currently on day 4 of waiting for my first direct deposit to Chime after switching from Money Network, and reading everyone's experiences here has been such a relief. It's crazy how much stress this causes when you don't know it's totally normal. I'm definitely going to call Chime tomorrow to see if they can at least confirm whether there are any pending ACH transfers coming my way. Thanks for sharing your timeline and the reassurance that payments actually come faster once you get through this initial verification period!

I'm currently going through this exact same situation right now! Switched from Money Network to my Navy Federal account 3 days ago, certified yesterday, shows 'paid' on UI Online but no deposit yet. Reading through all these experiences has been such a huge relief - I was convinced I had somehow entered my routing number wrong or something. It's honestly ridiculous that in 2025 we're still dealing with these delays because of EDD's ancient systems, but knowing it's completely normal makes the anxiety so much more manageable. Planning to wait until early next week before I start really panicking. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines and experiences - this thread is exactly what people in our situation need to see! It's wild how many of us go through this same stress when switching payment methods.

•You're definitely not alone in this! I just went through the exact same thing last month when I switched from Money Network to my online bank. The wait is absolutely nerve-wracking, especially when you're used to Money Network deposits hitting like clockwork. I ended up waiting 6 business days for my first direct deposit to show up, and like everyone else here, I was checking my account every few hours convinced something had gone wrong. The silver lining is that once you get through this initial verification period, your deposits should actually come faster and more consistently than they ever did with Money Network. Navy Federal is usually pretty reliable with ACH deposits too, so you should be in good shape once this first one processes. Hang in there - your money is definitely on its way, just taking the scenic route through EDD's prehistoric computer systems!

I'm dealing with this EXACT situation right now and this thread has been a lifesaver! Switched from Money Network to my Wells Fargo account on Monday, certified Tuesday, showing 'paid' status since Wednesday morning but still no deposit as of today (Friday). I was literally losing sleep thinking I messed up my account info somehow. It's honestly insane that EDD's system is so outdated that switching payment methods triggers this kind of delay, but reading everyone's experiences makes it clear this is just the unfortunate reality we have to deal with. The consistency of everyone reporting 4-7 business days for that first deposit is actually really comforting. I'm going to give it until early next week before I start making phone calls. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines - knowing this is totally normal saves so much anxiety! Can't wait to join the club of people who get their deposits faster than Money Network once this verification nightmare is over.

•I'm so glad this thread exists too! I'm literally going through the same thing right now - switched from Money Network to my local credit union on Wednesday, certified yesterday, shows 'paid' but no deposit yet. I was starting to convince myself that I mixed up a digit in my routing number or something. It's actually kind of reassuring to see how many people go through this exact same panic when making the switch. The fact that everyone is reporting similar timeframes (4-7 business days) for that first deposit makes me feel so much better. I think EDD should really put a big warning on their website when you change payment methods that says "YOUR FIRST DEPOSIT WILL BE DELAYED" - would save so many people from this stress! Fingers crossed both of our deposits show up early next week. At least we know we're not alone in this waiting game!

I'm currently on day 5 of waiting for my first direct deposit to my Capital One account after switching from Money Network, and this thread has been such a godsend! I was literally up at 3am last night checking my account balance for the hundredth time, convinced I had somehow screwed up my routing number. It's absolutely wild that in 2025 we're still dealing with these delays because EDD is running on technology that's probably older than some of the people receiving benefits! But seeing everyone's consistent experiences of 4-7 business days for that first deposit is incredibly reassuring. What's really frustrating is that there's zero communication from EDD about this delay when you make the switch - they should have a big flashing warning that says "EXPECT YOUR FIRST DEPOSIT TO TAKE UP TO A WEEK LONGER." Would save so many people from this unnecessary stress! Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines and came back with updates. This community is honestly more helpful than EDD's customer service could ever be. Planning to wait until Monday before I start calling around, but at least now I know this anxiety-inducing wait is completely normal. Can't wait to join the club of people getting faster deposits once this verification process is finally done!

•You're absolutely right about EDD needing better communication! I just went through this exact same stress 2 months ago when I switched from Money Network to my Ally account. I was literally setting alarms to check my balance every 2 hours thinking my money had disappeared into some digital void. Mine ended up taking 6 business days, and like you said, zero warning from EDD that this would happen. The worst part is their phone system is so terrible that even if you wanted to call and check, you'd spend hours just trying to get through to someone. But once that first deposit finally hit, every payment after that has been coming in faster and more reliably than Money Network ever was. You're so close to the finish line at day 5 - I bet yours shows up by Tuesday at the latest. This community really is more helpful than any official EDD resource!

I'm literally going through this exact same nightmare right now! Switched from Money Network to my PNC account last Thursday, certified on Sunday, shows 'paid' since Monday but it's now Saturday and still nothing. I've been refreshing my banking app like a maniac every hour thinking maybe I fat-fingered my account number or something. This thread has honestly saved my sanity - I had no idea this delay was so common when switching payment methods. It's absolutely ridiculous that EDD doesn't warn you about this when you make the change. Like, a simple "Hey, your first deposit might take up to a week longer" would prevent so much unnecessary panic! I'm on day 6 now so hopefully it shows up early next week. Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences - knowing I'm not alone in this stress-inducing waiting game makes it so much more bearable. Can't wait to finally get that first deposit and join the club of people who get their money faster than Money Network!

I can't change direct deposit to Chime on CA EDD
1 coin
AstroAdventurer
•Hey Ronald! That's frustrating. There could be a few reasons why you can't switch to Chime. Sometimes EDD's system temporarily locks payment method changes if you've made recent updates, or there might be an issue with how you're entering Chime's routing number (it's 103100195). Make sure you're using your actual Chime account number (not the card number) and that your Chime account has been open for at least 30 days - some banks require that for ACH deposits. You might also want to try logging out of UI Online completely and trying again, or using a different browser. If it's still not working, you might need to call EDD, though I know their phone system is a nightmare to get through. Has your Chime account been open long enough and are you sure you're using the right routing/account numbers?

•I had the same issue when I first tried to switch to Chime! Turns out I was using my debit card number instead of my actual account number. Your Chime account number is different from the card number - you can find it in the Chime app by going to Settings > Account Info. Also make sure you're using Chime's routing number 103100195 exactly. Another thing that helped me was clearing my browser cache before trying again on UI Online. If you're still having trouble, sometimes waiting 24-48 hours and trying again works - EDD's system is notoriously glitchy. Let us know if you get it working!

I went through this same exact stress when I switched from Money Network to my local bank last fall! The first deposit took 8 business days and I was absolutely convinced something had gone wrong. What helped me was understanding that EDD essentially treats your first direct deposit like you're a completely new claimant - they have to verify everything from scratch even though you've been getting benefits for months. The "paid" status just means they've processed it on their end, but then it goes into this verification limbo with the ACH system. I actually called my bank on day 6 and they confirmed no pending deposits were coming, which at least told me the delay was 100% on EDD's side. Once that first payment finally hit though, every deposit after has been faster and more reliable than Money Network ever was. Hang tight - your money is definitely in the pipeline, just taking the scenic route through EDD's ancient systems!
