EDD CA: Stuck waiting for proof of address email for over a month - How to get help?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment benefits. I've been waiting for over a month now for an email from the unemployment office so I can send in my proof of address. It's really frustrating because I can't move forward with my claim until I get this sorted out. Has anyone else been stuck in this limbo? Any advice on how to get through to the right department and actually get some help? I'm at my wits end here!

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat a few months ago. It's like they purposely make it impossible to get anything done. Have you tried calling them directly? Sometimes that's the only way to get any traction.

β’Yeah, I've been trying to call but it's a nightmare. Either I can't get through or I get transferred to the wrong department. It's like playing phone tag with a brick wall π§±

β’Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can catch them before the lines get jammed.

β’Also, try calling during different times if possible. I've found that late afternoons work sometimes too!

Hey OP, hang in there. I know it feels hopeless, but keep pushing. I finally got my issues resolved after 3 months of hell. There's light at the end of the tunnel!

Have you tried turning it off and on again? π Jk, but seriously, sometimes logging out and back into your online account can refresh things. Worth a shot!

β’It sounds silly, but I've seen this work with some systems. Definitely something to try.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the URL: https://claimyr.com

β’Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

β’How does it work exactly? Do they just keep calling until they get through?

β’It's totally legit! I was skeptical too, but it saved me hours of frustration. They use some kind of AI to navigate the phone system and wait on hold. When a real person picks up, it calls you. Worth every penny IMO.

β’While Claimyr is a great tool, it's important to note that not everyone can spare $20 for this kind of service. Exploring free options first can be wise.

Here's what worked for me: I emailed them every single day. Like, annoyingly persistent. Eventually, someone got back to me just to shut me up. Worth a shot?

β’Haha, I like your style. Might have to give that a try. Did you use a specific email address?

β’Yep! I used the general inquiries email on their website. Just keep it polite but firm. Good luck!

β’I've heard of people tweeting at the unemployment office too. Sometimes social media teams get quicker responses.

Have you tried faxing your proof of address? I know it sounds ancient, but sometimes these government offices still operate like it's 1995. Might be worth a shot.

β’Fax machines still exist? That's an interesting idea though. I might give it a try!

Yo, has anyone else noticed that the unemployment website is always "under maintenance" when you actually need to use it? Like, do they only have one IT guy or what?

β’Omg yes! It's always down when I try to certify. So annoying!

β’Plot twist: the IT guy is also on unemployment π

β’I hope they fix these issues. It feels like they do maintenance at the worst times.

This is why we need a complete overhaul of the unemployment system. It's not fit for purpose anymore. We should all be writing to our representatives about this!

β’100% agree. The system is broken AF. But good luck getting anyone in power to care about us little guys π

β’It's frustrating for sure, but sometimes collective voices do make a difference, especially if we band together.

I can understand your frustration with the unemployment office. It seems like a common issue many face, as seen from the responses here. One tool that can help is Claimyr, as mentioned in one of the comments. It helps you reach a human agent without enduring long hold times by leveraging AI technology. While it comes with a $20 fee, many users have found it worth the price for the efficiency it brings. However, if you're hesitant about spending money, there are free options to explore first, such as reaching out to your state representative, documenting every interaction, and being persistent with emails and calls. Joining support groups online to share experiences and get advice can also be beneficial. Remember, the system is indeed slow and often outdated, so persistence and patience, along with exploring all possible means, are key to resolving your issue.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes those important emails end up there. Just throwing it out there in case you haven't looked!

β’Great point! Also, check your 'promotions' or 'updates' tabs if you're using Gmail.

I swear, the unemployment system is designed to make us give up. It's a joke. I've been waiting TWO MONTHS for a simple document review. This country is broken.

β’Preach! π It's like they think we're all trying to scam the system or something. News flash: we just want what we're entitled to!

β’Have you tried reaching out to your local representative? Sometimes they can light a fire under the unemployment office's ass.

β’Local news stations sometimes cover these stories too. They might take up your cause and give it some visibility.

Here's a detailed breakdown of what you can try: 1. Double-check all your contact info on file. Sometimes they have old email addresses. 2. Call first thing in the morning, right when they open. Be prepared to wait. 3. Use the online portal if available. Sometimes you can upload documents directly. 4. If you have a case number, include it in ALL communications. 5. Reach out to your local unemployment office, not just the main state office. 6. Consider contacting your state representative or senator's office for help. 7. Join local unemployment support groups on Facebook or Reddit. Sometimes they have insider tips. 8. If all else fails, consider legal aid. Some offer free consultations for unemployment issues. Remember, document EVERYTHING. Every call, email, and interaction. It might come in handy later.

β’These are really solid steps. Number 6 has helped me in the past, and it's surprising how effective reaching out to a representative can be.

I'm telling you, it's a conspiracy to keep us poor and desperate. They make it so hard on purpose so people just give up. Stay strong and keep fighting!

β’While it might feel that way, it could also be a lack of resources or outdated systems causing these issues.
