EDD Error e324: Can't register for disability due to duplicate account. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my EDD account. I've got an existing account from when I was on unemployment during COVID, but now I'm trying to register for disability benefits. Every time I try, I get this error e324. I think it might be because I accidentally created a duplicate account a while back when I got frustrated with the system. Now I'm past the filing date for disability because of all these technical issues. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice on how to properly register as a claimant online through my account?

Ugh, the EDD system is such a nightmare! I had a similar issue with duplicate accounts. Have you tried calling their tech support line? It took me forever to get through, but they were able to merge my accounts eventually.

•I've been trying to call for days but no luck getting through. How long did you have to wait on hold?

•Honestly, it was ridiculous. I think I was on hold for like 3 hours before someone picked up. But it was worth it to get it sorted out.

•3 hours?! That's insane. The whole system needs an overhaul 🤦♂️

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

•Can confirm, I used it last week and got through in about an hour. Way better than sitting on hold all day!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your account info (both email addresses, any claim numbers, etc.) 2. Call the EDD technical support line as soon as they open (check their website for hours) 3. Explain the situation clearly and ask them to merge your accounts 4. Once merged, try to file for disability again 5. If you're past the filing date, you'll need to explain the technical issues you faced. They might make an exception. If all else fails, you might need to file an appeal. Don't give up! The system is frustrating but keep pushing.

•This is solid advice. I'd also recommend keeping a log of all your attempts to contact them. It could help if you need to file an appeal.

I had a similar issue last year. Turns out my identity verification was out of date. Might be worth checking if your ID.me or whatever they're using now is up to date.

•Oh, that's a good point. I'll double-check my Verify.me status. Thanks!

pro tip: if u cant get thru on the main line, try calling some of the other edd numbers (like the employer line) and ask to be transfered. worked for me!

I went through something very similar! Error e324 is usually related to having multiple accounts in their system. Here's what worked for me: 1. Don't try to create any new accounts - this will make it worse 2. Call the EDD Disability Insurance line specifically (not the UI line) at 1-800-480-3287 3. Have ALL your information ready: SSN, both email addresses you might have used, any confirmation numbers from previous claims 4. Tell them you need to "consolidate duplicate accounts" and explain the disability filing deadline issue The key is being super clear that you have a legitimate disability claim but can't file due to their system error. They can extend your filing deadline if you can prove the technical issues prevented you from filing on time. I also recommend sending yourself emails documenting each attempt you make - screenshot the error, note the time/date. This creates a paper trail if you need to appeal later. Don't give up! The system is broken but there are people there who can help once you get through to the right person.

@Yuki Sato This is incredibly helpful! I've been banging my head against the wall for weeks. I didn't realize there was a specific disability insurance line - I've been calling the general EDD number this whole time. The tip about documenting everything with screenshots is brilliant too. I'm definitely going to try calling 1-800-480-3287 first thing Monday morning with all my account info ready. Really appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed advice!

•@Yuki Sato @Fatima Al-Farsi This thread has been so helpful! I m in'a similar boat - created multiple accounts during the pandemic chaos and now dealing with the fallout. The specific disability line number is gold - I had no idea there was a separate line for DI claims. Question: when you called, did they ask you to verify identity for both accounts? I m worried'they might flag me for having duplicates in the first place. Also, has anyone had luck with the online chat support, or is phone really the only way to get this resolved?
