EDD account error e324 when filing for disability - help merging duplicate accounts and submitting late claim?

I'm having trouble with my EDD account and disability claim. I have an existing account from when I was on unemployment during COVID, but now I'm trying to file for disability. When I try to register as a claimant, I get an error e324. I think it might be because I accidentally created a second account with a different email when I got frustrated before. Now I'm past the disability filing date because of all these issues. Has anyone dealt with this? How can I fix my account and still submit my claim?

Ugh, the EDD system is such a nightmare! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I had a similar issue with duplicate accounts. You need to call them and ask to merge your accounts. Be prepared to wait on hold forever tho...

Forreal? How long did you have to wait on hold? I've been trying to get through for weeks!

β€’

No joke, I was on hold for like 3 hours. It's ridiculous. Bring a book or something lol

3 hours? You got lucky! I've been trying for a month and can't even get put on hold 😭

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

β€’

Yeah, it's totally legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Pro tip: document EVERYTHING. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact EDD, screenshots of errors, etc. If you need to appeal or explain why you're filing late, this documentation will be crucial.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They often have dedicated staff to help with EDD issues and can sometimes get things resolved faster than going through the regular channels.

β€’

I hadn't thought of that! Do you know how I would find my assembly member's contact info?

β€’

Just google '[your city] California assembly member'. Their office should have a contact form or phone number for constituent services. Good luck!

Here's what you need to do to fix this mess: 1. Call EDD first thing in the morning (like 7:59 AM) to have the best chance of getting through. 2. Explain the duplicate account issue and ask them to merge your accounts. 3. Have both email addresses ready, as well as your SSN and any claim numbers you have. 4. Once the accounts are merged, ask them to help you file your disability claim. 5. Explain why you're filing late due to technical issues. They may need to submit a special request to backdate your claim. 6. Get the name and ID number of the rep you talk to, and ask for a confirmation number for your call. 7. Follow up with a written explanation through your EDD online account message center, referencing your phone call. It's a pain, but persistence is key. Don't give up! The system is designed to wear you down, but you've got this! πŸ’ͺ

Hot take: the entire EDD system needs to be scrapped and rebuilt from the ground up. It's not fit for purpose in 2023.

I went through the exact same thing! The e324 error is definitely because of the duplicate accounts. Here's what worked for me: I called the EDD technical support line (not the regular claims line) at 1-800-300-5616 and explained I had duplicate accounts that needed to be merged. They were able to consolidate everything and then I could file my disability claim. For the late filing, they have a "good cause" exception if you can prove the delay was due to their system issues. Make sure to mention the error code and keep screenshots of everything. It took about 2 weeks total to get resolved, but I did get my back pay. Don't give up - you've got this! πŸ’ͺ

Thank you so much for sharing this! πŸ™ The technical support line number is super helpful - I didn't even know there was a separate number for tech issues. Did you have to wait long to get through to them? And when you mentioned "good cause" exception, did they ask for any specific documentation besides the screenshots?

@Aisha Khan This is incredibly helpful! I ve'been struggling with a similar duplicate account issue for weeks. Quick question - when you called the technical support line, did you need any specific information ready besides your SSN and email addresses? And roughly how long did you have to wait on hold? I want to make sure I m'fully prepared before I call. Thanks for giving me hope that this can actually be resolved! 🀞

@Aisha Khan Wow, thank you for this detailed breakdown! I ve'been banging my head against the wall with this exact same issue. Quick question - when you say it took 2 weeks total, was that 2 weeks from when you first called or 2 weeks from when they actually merged your accounts? I m'trying to figure out if I should keep pushing my employer for more time off while this gets sorted out. Also, did the technical support folks handle both the account merge AND the disability filing, or did you have to call different departments? Really appreciate you taking the time to share what worked! πŸ™Œ

@Aisha Khan You re'a lifesaver! πŸ™Œ I ve'been dealing with this nightmare for over a month now. Just to clarify - when you called the technical support line, did you mention the e324 error specifically or just explain the duplicate account situation? I want to make sure I phrase it right so they understand exactly what s'going on. Also, did they merge the accounts immediately during the call or did that take a few days to process? I m'so relieved to hear there s'actually a path forward with this mess!

@Aisha Khan This is exactly what I needed to hear! I ve'been getting that same e324 error and was starting to think I d'never get through this mess. One more question - when you called the technical support line, what time of day did you call? I ve'heard some people say early morning works better, but I wanted to check what worked for you. Also, did they give you any kind of case number or reference number when they started the account merge process? I want to make sure I can track everything properly. Thanks again for sharing your experience - it s'giving me so much hope! πŸ™

I'm dealing with the exact same e324 error! 😀 It's so frustrating when you're already stressed about being out of work and then the system just doesn't work. I created multiple accounts too trying to figure it out. Has anyone tried using the "Forgot Password" feature to see which email actually has the active account? I'm wondering if that might help identify which account is the main one before calling. Also, @Mason Davis did you get any confirmation emails when you first created your accounts? Those might have important account details that could help when you call EDD.

β€’

@Dylan Cooper That s'a really smart idea about the Forgot "Password feature!" I hadn t'thought of that approach. I m'dealing with a similar mess right now - created like 3 different accounts when I kept getting locked out. The confirmation emails are definitely key too. I saved mine in a special folder because I had a feeling this would get complicated. One thing that helped me figure out which account was primary "was" checking which one had my employment history already loaded. The duplicate ones I created were basically empty. Good luck with the e324 error - sounds like we re'all in the same boat! πŸš£β€β™€οΈ

I just went through this exact same nightmare last month! The e324 error is super common when you have duplicate accounts in their system. Here's what finally worked for me: I called EDD at exactly 8:00 AM (right when they open) and got through after about 45 minutes on hold. I explained I had the e324 error and suspected duplicate accounts, and they were able to see both accounts immediately. They merged them on the spot and then helped me file my disability claim right during that same call. For the late filing issue, make sure to mention that the technical problems prevented you from filing on time - they have provisions for this exact situation. I also recommend having both email addresses ready, your SSN, and any confirmation emails from when you created the accounts. The rep I talked to was actually really helpful once I got through to someone. Don't lose hope - this can definitely be resolved! 🀞

@Collins Angel This gives me so much hope! πŸ™Œ I m'dealing with this exact same situation right now. Quick question - when you called right at 8:00 AM, did you use the regular EDD number or the technical support line that @Aisha Khan mentioned earlier? Also, when they merged your accounts on the spot, did you lose any information from either account or did everything get combined properly? I m worried'about losing my employment history or other important data. Thanks for sharing your success story - it s exactly'what I needed to hear today!

I just went through this EXACT same situation a few weeks ago! The e324 error plus duplicate accounts is like the perfect storm of EDD nightmares. Here's what I learned: First, don't panic about the late filing - they really do have exceptions for technical issues. I was 3 weeks late because of similar problems and still got approved with back pay. What worked for me was calling the main EDD number (1-800-300-5616) at exactly 7:59 AM and pressing 1-2-1 as soon as the menu started. I got through after about an hour. When I explained the e324 error and duplicate accounts, the rep said "oh this happens ALL the time" which was weirdly reassuring lol. They merged my accounts during the call and I was able to file my disability claim immediately after. The key things to have ready: both email addresses, SSN, any previous claim numbers from unemployment, and screenshots of the error messages. Pro tip: ask for a confirmation number for EVERYTHING - the account merge, the disability filing, and the good cause exception for late filing. Write it all down! The whole process took about 2 hours on the phone but was totally worth it. You've got this! πŸ’ͺ

@Dylan Mitchell This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for breaking down the phone menu sequence 1-2-1 (-) that s'the kind of detail that makes all the difference. I ve'been calling randomly throughout the day and getting nowhere. The fact that you were 3 weeks late and still got back pay gives me so much relief because I m'in a similar timeline. Quick question - when you asked for confirmation numbers, did they give you separate numbers for each thing account (merge, filing, late exception or) was it all under one case number? I want to make sure I track everything properly when I call tomorrow morning. Really appreciate you sharing the play-by-play! πŸ™

I'm going through this exact same issue right now and reading through all these responses has been incredibly helpful! πŸ™ I've been stuck with the e324 error for about 2 weeks and was starting to panic about missing deadlines. The technical support line number (1-800-300-5616) and the 1-2-1 phone menu sequence that people have shared are game changers. I had no idea there was a separate tech support line - I've been calling the regular claims number and getting nowhere. One thing I'm curious about - for those who successfully got their accounts merged, did you notice any delays in your online account showing the updated information after the phone call? I want to make sure everything is properly consolidated before I try to file my disability claim. Also keeping my fingers crossed that the "good cause" exception for late filing due to technical issues works out. It's reassuring to hear that multiple people have had success with this approach even when filing weeks late. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - this community is a lifesaver when dealing with EDD's nightmare system! Going to try calling first thing tomorrow morning. 🀞

@Aisha Abdullah Good luck tomorrow morning! 🀞 From what I ve'read here, it sounds like calling right at 8 AM with that 1-2-1 sequence is the way to go. I m'also dealing with this mess but haven t'worked up the courage to spend hours on hold yet. Let us know how it goes - I m'sure there are tons of us lurking here with the same problem who could use a fresh success story! The fact that so many people have gotten the late filing exception approved gives me hope that EDD actually does recognize how broken their system is.

Just wanted to add my experience since I literally just resolved this exact same issue yesterday! The e324 error with duplicate accounts seems to be super common right now. I followed the advice from @Dylan Mitchell and @Collins Angel about calling at 8 AM with the 1-2-1 menu sequence and it actually worked! Got through after about 1.5 hours on hold (brought my laptop and worked while waiting). The rep was really understanding and said they've been seeing tons of these duplicate account cases lately. She merged everything in about 10 minutes and then walked me through filing my disability claim right on the same call. For anyone still dealing with this - make sure to mention the specific error code (e324) right away when you get through. The rep immediately knew what was wrong and had a standard process to fix it. Also, I was almost a month late filing due to these technical issues and they approved the good cause exception without any pushback. One tip that helped: I created a simple document beforehand with all my info (both email addresses, SSN, previous claim numbers, dates I tried to file, screenshots of errors) so I could quickly find everything during the call. Made the whole process way smoother. Don't give up @Mason Davis - this is totally fixable! πŸ’ͺ

@Gabriel Ruiz This is so encouraging to hear! πŸŽ‰ I ve'been putting off making that call because I was dreading spending all day on hold, but 1.5 hours actually sounds manageable. The tip about creating a document with all your info beforehand is brilliant - I m'definitely going to do that tonight so I m'ready to go tomorrow morning. It s'such a relief to hear that the reps actually have a standard process for fixing the e324/duplicate account issue now. Sounds like enough people have had this problem that they ve'figured out how to handle it efficiently. Thanks for sharing such a detailed breakdown of what worked - gives me confidence that I can actually get this resolved! πŸ™

I'm dealing with this exact same frustrating situation! 😀 Got the e324 error for weeks now and I'm pretty sure I have duplicate accounts too. Reading through everyone's success stories here is giving me hope though! Quick question for those who got through - when you called at 8 AM, did you dial right at 8:00 or a minute or two before? I've heard mixed advice about timing. Also, should I have both email passwords ready in case they need me to verify something in the accounts during the call? @Mason Davis - hang in there! Sounds like this is way more common than we thought and there's definitely a path to getting it fixed. Planning to try the early morning call strategy myself and will report back with how it goes. We've got this! πŸ’ͺ
