EDD account error: Can't create new account due to old CDL-linked account, need help merging
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my EDD account. I tried to create a new one, but I got an error message saying an account was already created with my CDL in the past. I remember using it for EDD back in 2021 and 2022 for a previous surgery, but I can't access the old email I used. I went to the Social Security office and they started a new account for me, but I'm still getting this error. Any advice on how to fix this?

•Couldn't have said it better myself. It's a shame such an essential service is so hard to navigate.

Here's what you need to do to resolve this issue: 1. Document everything: Write down your old account details, new account info, and the exact error message you're getting. 2. Prepare your identification: Have your CDL, Social Security card, and any EDD correspondence ready. 3. Contact EDD: Use multiple methods - phone, email, and the contact form on their website. Be persistent! 4. Explain the situation clearly: Tell them about the old account, the new one created by the Social Security office, and the error you're encountering. 5. Request account merge: Ask them specifically to merge your old and new accounts. 6. Follow up: If you don't hear back within a week, try contacting them again. 7. Consider seeking help from your local assembly member's office if you continue to have issues. Remember, patience is key. The system is overwhelmed, but keep at it and you'll get it sorted out!

•These steps are really thorough and should be quite effective. The local assembly member's office tip is especially useful, as they often have direct contacts at EDD for issues like these.

Navigating the EDD system can indeed be a daunting task, especially when faced with account issues like yours. It's important to recognize the role of Claimyr as a tool that might help alleviate some of these challenges. Claimyr provides a valuable service by allowing users to bypass long hold times and directly speak with an EDD representative, which can dramatically speed up the resolution process. However, it comes with a cost that might not be feasible for everyone. Balancing the cost against the time saved is crucial. Furthermore, always ensure to have all your documentation organized and ready, as this can significantly reduce back-and-forth communication and expedite resolution. It might also be helpful to contact customer support through various channels like calling during different times of the day, using the online contact form, or even reaching out via social media platforms where EDD might have a presence. Persistence and patience are key in dealing with bureaucratic systems, and utilizing all available resources will increase your chances of a timely resolution.

This happened to me last year. I ended up having to go to the EDD office in person to get it sorted out. It sucks, but sometimes face-to-face is the only way to cut through the red tape.

•I didn't even know you could go in person. Where did you find the office location?

•Just google 'EDD office near me'. Make sure to bring ALL your documents tho!

•Visiting an office in person can sometimes expedite the process. Just ensure to call ahead to confirm their hours and any specific documentation they require.

I had a similar issue. Turns out, you need to contact EDD directly to merge your old and new accounts. It's a pain, but it's the only way to fix it.

•Thanks for the tip! Did you have to call them or is there another way to contact them?

•I found that sending them a direct message on social media worked for me in the past. They seem to respond faster there sometimes.

Ugh, classic EDD nonsense. Have you tried calling them to update your email? That might be the quickest way to sort this out.

Pro tip: Try calling right when they open in the morning. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way.

•Thanks for the tip! What time do they open?

•8am Pacific Time. Set your alarm and be ready to dial!

•This is a solid tip. Early morning is often when phone lines are less busy, so you have a better chance of getting through quicker.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Claimyr seems like a viable solution, especially for those who are pressed for time. However, it's unfortunate that such services are needed due to inefficient systems. Always weigh the cost and benefits for your situation!

Have you tried using the 'Contact EDD' form on their website? Sometimes that works better than calling.

I went through this exact same situation last year! The key is to be persistent and use multiple approaches. First, try calling EDD at 8am sharp when they open - you'll have better luck getting through. If that doesn't work, fill out their online contact form AND send them a message on social media (they sometimes respond faster there). Make sure to explain that you need your old CDL-linked account merged with your new one. Also, gather all your documentation beforehand - old EDD correspondence, your CDL, SSN card, etc. If you're still stuck after a week or two, contact your local assembly member's office - they often have direct contacts at EDD and can help escalate your case. Don't give up, it's frustrating but solvable!

I had this exact same issue a few months ago! What worked for me was calling EDD first thing in the morning (around 8:05 AM) and explaining that I needed to merge two accounts - one linked to my CDL from years ago that I couldn't access, and a new one. The rep was able to see both accounts in their system and merge them on the spot. It took about 45 minutes on the phone, but she walked me through updating my contact info and verifying my identity. Make sure you have your CDL number, SSN, and any old EDD correspondence handy when you call. Don't give up - it's definitely fixable once you get the right person on the line!

•This is super helpful! I'm definitely going to try calling at 8:05 AM tomorrow with all my documents ready. It's reassuring to hear from someone who had the exact same issue and got it resolved. Fingers crossed I can get someone as helpful as the rep you talked to!

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now! It's so frustrating when the system creates these roadblocks. From reading everyone's advice here, it sounds like the key is being really persistent with multiple approaches. I'm going to try the early morning calling strategy - seems like 8am sharp is the magic time when you might actually get through to a human. The idea about contacting your assembly member's office is brilliant too - I had no idea they could help with EDD issues. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it's really helpful to know I'm not alone in this bureaucratic nightmare! 🙏

•You're definitely not alone in this! I'm new here but dealing with something similar - it's crazy how common these EDD account issues seem to be. The assembly member tip really caught my attention too, I had no idea that was even an option. Good luck with the 8am calling strategy tomorrow! Maybe we should all coordinate and share our experiences with different approaches so we can help each other figure out what works best.

I'm new to this community but dealing with a very similar EDD account nightmare! Reading through all these responses is both helpful and depressing - it's clear this is a widespread issue with their system. I'm particularly interested in trying the early morning calling strategy that several people mentioned. Has anyone had success with the online chat feature on their website, or is that just as useless as everything else? Also, for those who got through to a rep and had accounts merged - did you need any specific reference numbers from your old account, or were they able to find everything just with your CDL and SSN? Thanks for all the detailed advice everyone, this thread is a goldmine of information!

•Welcome to the EDD nightmare club! 😅 From what I've seen in other threads, the online chat is pretty much useless - it's usually just automated responses that tell you to call anyway. As for the account merging, most people who succeeded said the reps could find everything with just CDL and SSN, but it's always good to have any old confirmation numbers or correspondence handy just in case. The 8am calling strategy seems to be the most successful approach based on everyone's experiences. Good luck, and don't get discouraged if it takes multiple attempts - persistence really does pay off with EDD!
