EDD nightmare: Two accounts, can't access old one, need to file SDI for maternity leave. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with EDD. I've got two accounts and I need to delete one of them. The problem is, I can't access the old one anymore because I lost access to the email. So I made a new account. Now I need to submit an SDI claim for maternity leave, but I'm worried about having two accounts. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice on how to handle it?

Ugh, EDD and their stupid systems! 🤦‍♀️ I had a similar issue last year. You need to call them ASAP and explain the situation. They can merge the accounts or delete the old one for you. But be prepared to wait on hold forever...

forever is an understatement lol. I once waited 6 hours just to get disconnected 😭

Pro tip: call right when they open. You might only have to wait an hour or two then 😅

Thanks for the advice! I'm dreading the wait time, but I guess I have no choice 😩

Congrats on the baby! 🎉 As for the EDD issue, you definitely need to sort this out before submitting your SDI claim. Having multiple accounts could flag your application and delay your benefits.

Thank you! 💖 And yikes, I didn't even think about it flagging my application. I'll make sure to get it sorted ASAP.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

0 coins

$20? Thats kinda steep for just a phone call...

0 coins

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. And yeah, $20 isnt cheap, but consider how much your time is worth, ya know?

I tried it too. Got through in like 30 minutes. Worth every penny imo

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Write down both account numbers, any claim numbers, and all the info you can remember about the old account. 2. Call EDD's main line (not the SDI line) and explain the situation. Be patient and polite - the person on the other end didn't cause this problem. 3. Ask them to merge the accounts or delete the old one. They might need to transfer you to a specialist. 4. Once that's sorted, THEN file your SDI claim using the correct account. 5. Keep records of who you talked to and when. Get confirmation numbers for any changes they make. Don't try to file the SDI claim until this is resolved. It'll save you headaches down the road. Good luck!

This is incredibly helpful, thank you so much! I'll definitely follow these steps. 🙏

Solid advice right here 💯

am i the only 1 who thinks its ridiculous we have to jump through all these hoops just to get our benefits? the system is broken af 🤡

Preach! 🙌 It's like they make it complicated on purpose

Fr fr. And don't even get me started on their website. It's like stepping back into 1995 🕰️

Quick question - when you created the second account, did you use the same SSN? Cuz that might cause issues with your claim later on.

0 coins

Oh no, I did use the same SSN... 😰 Is that going to be a big problem?

0 coins

It could be. Definitely mention this when you call them. They might need to do some extra steps to sort it out.

idk if this helps, but I had a friend who went through something similar. She ended up having to go to an EDD office in person to get it sorted. Took forever, but at least she got it done.

I went through almost the exact same thing when I was pregnant with my first! The duplicate account situation is super common - you're not alone. I ended up calling the EDD customer service line at 1-800-480-3287 around 8am sharp (they open at 8) and explained that I had two accounts due to email access issues. The rep was actually really helpful and walked me through the process of deactivating the old account while keeping my work history intact. It took about 45 minutes on the phone total, but they got it sorted same day. Just make sure you have your SSN, old account info (whatever you can remember), and be ready to verify your identity. Don't stress too much - they deal with this all the time! And congrats on your pregnancy! 🤱

This is so reassuring to hear! Thank you for sharing your experience and the specific phone number. I'm definitely going to try calling right at 8am tomorrow. It's such a relief to know this is common and that they can actually help sort it out quickly. I was really worried I'd be stuck in bureaucratic hell for months! 😅 And thank you for the congrats! 💕

Just wanted to add my experience for anyone else dealing with this - I had the EXACT same issue last month! Two accounts, lost access to old email, super stressful when you're trying to file for maternity leave. The good news is EDD's account consolidation team is actually pretty good at handling this. When you call, ask to be transferred specifically to "Account Services" - they're the ones who can merge or delete duplicate accounts. Also, bring up the fact that you're filing for SDI maternity leave - they'll often prioritize pregnant women's cases. I got mine resolved in one phone call (after a 2-hour wait, but still!). One more tip - if you have any old paperwork from the original account like benefit letters or anything with your account number on it, have that ready. It speeds up the verification process. You've got this! 💪

Oh wow, thank you so much for mentioning the "Account Services" department specifically! That's exactly the kind of detail that can save hours of being transferred around. I had no idea they prioritize maternity cases either - that's actually really encouraging. I'm definitely going to ask for that department right away and mention the SDI filing. Unfortunately I don't think I have any old paperwork since I can't access that email anymore, but hopefully my SSN and what I remember will be enough. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! 🙏

Hey! I'm dealing with a very similar situation right now - also pregnant and trying to navigate the EDD maze with multiple accounts 😩 Reading through all these responses is giving me hope though! I created a duplicate account about 6 months ago when I couldn't remember my login info, and now I'm terrified it's going to mess up my SDI claim when I need to file in a few weeks. Has anyone had experience with how long the account consolidation process takes? I'm worried about timing since there are deadlines for filing SDI claims. Also, @Santiago Martinez - when you say they prioritize pregnant women's cases, do you mean they actually move you up in the phone queue or just handle the account issue faster once you get through? Thanks for all the helpful info everyone! This community is a lifesaver 💕

Hey @Issac Nightingale! I'm new here but going through something super similar - also expecting and stressed about the EDD situation! From what I've been reading in this thread, it sounds like the account consolidation can happen pretty quickly (some people mentioned same-day resolution), but the real challenge is just getting through to someone on the phone. The timing thing is definitely scary though - I've heard SDI has to be filed within a certain window. Maybe try calling ASAP just to get the ball rolling, even if you don't need to file your claim for a few more weeks? That way if there are any hiccups you'll have time to sort them out. Also really hoping @Santiago Martinez can clarify about the prioritization thing because that would be amazing if true! Sending you good vibes - we pregnant folks need to stick together through this bureaucratic nightmare! 🤱💪

Hey @Lucas Parker! I'm actually going through something really similar right now - also expecting and dealing with EDD account issues! 😅 Based on all the advice here, it sounds like calling first thing in the morning (right at 8am when they open) is your best bet. I'd definitely follow @Kaitlyn Jenkins' step-by-step approach - that seems like the most comprehensive plan. And don't worry too much about the duplicate SSN thing that @Daniel White mentioned - from what @Dmitry Popov and @Santiago Martinez shared, this is super common and EDD deals with it all the time. The key seems to be asking specifically for "Account Services" when you call and mentioning that you need to file for maternity SDI. I'm planning to call tomorrow morning myself, so maybe we'll both get through! Wishing you luck and congratulations on your pregnancy! 🤱💕

Thanks @Ava Rodriguez! It's so comforting to know I'm not the only one dealing with this mess right now 😅 Pregnancy is stressful enough without having to navigate EDD's broken system! I'm definitely going to try calling at 8am sharp tomorrow and ask for Account Services right away. Really appreciate you tagging all the helpful people - this thread has been a goldmine of useful info. Good luck with your call tomorrow too! Maybe we should update each other on how it goes? Fingers crossed we both get through quickly and get this sorted out before our babies arrive! 🤞👶

This thread has been so helpful! I'm actually a new mom who just went through this exact situation about 3 months ago. I had two EDD accounts because I forgot my password and created a new one instead of doing the password reset (facepalm moment 🤦‍♀️). When I needed to file my SDI claim for maternity leave, I was terrified it would get rejected or delayed. Here's what worked for me: I called the main EDD number at 7:59am and was ready to dial the second it hit 8:00am. When I got through (took about 90 minutes), I immediately said "Hi, I need help with duplicate accounts and I'm filing for maternity SDI." The rep transferred me directly to Account Services without any runaround. The whole process took maybe 20 minutes once I got the right person - they merged my accounts and kept all my work history intact. One thing I wish I'd known: they can actually put a note on your account that you're in the process of consolidating, so if you need to file your SDI claim before it's fully resolved, you can still do it without it getting flagged. Just mention that when you call! @Lucas Parker - you've got this! The system is frustrating but the people are usually really helpful once you get through. Wishing you the best with your pregnancy and claim! 💕

@Chloe Harris thank you SO much for sharing your recent experience! This is exactly what I needed to hear - especially the part about them being able to put a note on the account while it s'being consolidated. That takes away so much of my anxiety about the timing! I had no idea they could do that. Your tip about calling at 7:59 and being ready to dial right at 8am is brilliant too. I m'definitely going to use your exact wording when I get through: I "need help with duplicate accounts and I m'filing for maternity SDI. It" sounds like being super direct and mentioning the maternity piece right upfront really helps. Thanks for giving me hope that this can actually be resolved quickly once I get the right person! 🙏✨

I'm going through almost the exact same thing right now! Created a second account because I couldn't access my old email, and now I'm panicking about filing my SDI claim next month. Reading all these responses has been such a relief - especially knowing that Account Services can put a note on your file while they're consolidating accounts. That's a game changer! @Chloe Harris your recent experience gives me so much hope! I love your strategy of calling at 7:59 and having that exact phrase ready. @Santiago Martinez and @Dmitry Popov thanks for the specific tips about mentioning maternity priority - I had no idea that was a thing! One quick question for anyone who's been through this - did you have any issues with your work history or benefit amounts getting messed up during the consolidation? That's honestly my biggest fear right now. Thanks everyone for making this feel less overwhelming! This community is amazing 💕

Hey @Lim Wong! I'm also new to dealing with this EDD mess and feeling overwhelmed by it all 😅 Your question about work history is such a good one - I didn't even think about that but now I'm worried too! From what I've been reading in this thread, it sounds like @Dmitry Popov mentioned their work history stayed intact during consolidation, and @Chloe Harris said the same thing. But it would be great to hear from more people who ve actually'been through it recently. I m planning'to ask specifically about protecting work history when I call tomorrow - maybe we should both make sure to ask about that when we get through? This whole situation is stressful enough without worrying about losing our employment records! Fingers crossed we both get it sorted out smoothly 🤞

I went through this exact nightmare last year when I was pregnant with my daughter! Had two accounts because of a forgotten password situation and was absolutely panicking about my SDI claim getting messed up. Here's what I learned: The duplicate account thing is WAY more common than you'd think - the EDD reps told me they handle these cases daily. What saved me was calling at exactly 8:00am and immediately saying "I have duplicate accounts and need to file maternity SDI - can you transfer me to Account Services?" Got transferred right away without the usual runaround. The consolidation process was surprisingly smooth once I got the right person. They merged everything in about 15 minutes and my work history transferred over perfectly. They also put a priority note on my file since I was filing for maternity leave. Pro tip: Even if you can't remember your old account details, they can usually find it with just your SSN and name. Don't stress if you don't have the old account number! @Lucas Parker - you're going to be fine! The system is frustrating but this is totally fixable. Call early, be direct about what you need, and don't let them transfer you around. Congrats on your pregnancy! 🤱💕

@Malia Ponder this is so reassuring to hear from someone who literally just went through this! I love that you got straight to the point with I "have duplicate accounts and need to file maternity SDI -" that seems to be the magic phrase that gets you transferred quickly. It s'such a relief to know the work history transfers over smoothly and that they can find the old account with just SSN and name. I was so worried about not having my old account details! Your pro tip about the priority note for maternity cases is exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience - it s'giving me so much confidence going into tomorrow s'call! 🙏✨

Oh wow, this thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm also dealing with EDD account issues (though not pregnancy related) and reading everyone's experiences gives me so much hope. The specific tips about calling right at 8am, asking for "Account Services" immediately, and mentioning maternity priority are gold! @Lucas Parker - it sounds like you've got an amazing game plan now based on all this advice. The fact that so many people have successfully resolved duplicate account issues recently is really encouraging. One thing I wanted to add for anyone else reading this - it might be worth screenshotting or saving this thread because there are SO many useful details here (phone numbers, specific departments, exact phrasing to use, etc.). This is like a masterclass in navigating EDD! Best of luck with your call and congratulations on your pregnancy! 🤱💕

@Megan D'Acosta you're so right about saving this thread! I'm actually screenshotting all the key tips right now because there's so much valuable info here. The step-by-step advice from everyone who's been through this exact situation is priceless. It's amazing how this community comes together to help each other navigate these bureaucratic nightmares! @Lucas Parker definitely has everything they need to tackle this successfully now. This is exactly why I love this group - real people sharing real solutions that actually work! 🙌
