Can't access old EDD account from 2012 to apply for SDI - Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I applied for unemployment benefits way back in 2012, and now I need to apply for SDI for maternity leave. The problem is, I can't access my old account because I don't remember my last payment from over a decade ago. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips on how to recover my account info or apply for SDI without it? I'm feeling pretty lost here.

Ugh, the EDD system is such a nightmare! I had a similar issue trying to access an old account. Have you tried calling their customer service line? Be prepared to wait on hold for hours tho π

β’I haven't tried calling yet, but I'm dreading it. Did you eventually get through to someone who could help?

β’Yeah, after like 3 hours on hold π« They were able to reset my account, but it was a whole ordeal. Bring a book or something if you decide to call lol

β’Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have a better chance of getting through quickly!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

β’Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

β’I was skeptical at first too, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

β’Idk man, seems kinda sketchy. Why should we have to pay to talk to a government agency?

β’I get the concern, but for me, it was worth it to save time and stress. To each their own tho!

Have you tried using the 'Forgot Password' option on the EDD website? Sometimes that can help you recover old account info.

Ok, here's what you need to do: 1. Go to the EDD website and look for the 'Contact Us' section. 2. Find the option for account recovery or technical support. 3. You'll probably need to provide some identifying info like your SSN, birthdate, and address. 4. If online doesn't work, call their tech support line (not the regular unemployment line). 5. Explain your situation and ask about applying for SDI with an old, inaccessible account. 6. Be patient and persistent - you might need to try a few times. If all else fails, you might have to create a new account for SDI. It's not ideal, but sometimes it's faster than recovering an ancient account. Good luck, and congrats on the baby! πΌπΆ

β’This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of who you talk to and when. It can help if you need to follow up later.

β’Preach! π Their website looks like it was made in 1995 and never updated

β’To be fair, they deal with a lot of sensitive info. Updating systems while keeping everything secure isn't easy.

β’i guess, but other govt agencies manage to do it. EDD just seems extra terrible

Have you considered reaching out to your local state representative's office? Sometimes they can help navigate these bureaucratic nightmares.

β’I hadn't thought of that! Do you know how I would go about contacting them?

β’Just google your area + state representative. Most have a 'constituent services' section on their website where you can request help with state agencies.

I work in HR and deal with this stuff all the time. Here's a pro tip: if you have any old tax documents from 2012, they might have the info you need to recover your account. Worth a shot!

Ugh, I feel your pain. I had to deal with EDD last year and it was a total nightmare. Took me weeks to sort out my account issues. Hang in there!

Have you tried contacting them through social media? Sometimes tweeting at govt agencies can get a faster response. Worth a shot! π¦

β’This actually worked for me once! Their social media team seems more responsive than their phone lines.

Just went through something similar last month! I had an old EDD account from 2015 that I couldn't access. What worked for me was actually going to a local EDD office in person with my ID and old paperwork. They were able to look up my account and help me reset it on the spot. Way faster than the phone lines! Check if there's an office near you that does walk-ins - it might save you hours of frustration. Good luck with your SDI application! π€
