Need help switching from UI to SDI and requesting EDD wage investigation - any tips?
Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my SDI claim. I initially filed for unemployment, but I realized I actually need SDI. Has anyone else had to switch from unemployment to SDI? What was your experience like? I'm also thinking about requesting a wage investigation. Any advice on how to go about this or what to expect?

Ugh, been there done that. Switching from unemployment to SDI can be a real pain in the a**. First thing you gotta do is call them and explain the situation. Be prepared to wait on hold for like... forever tho 🙄

•Forreal? How long did you have to wait? I've been trying to get through for days!

•No joke, I was on hold for over 3 hours once. It's ridiculous!

•Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have a better chance of getting through.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

•How exactly does it work? Do you have to give them any personal info?

•Nah, you just give them your phone number so they can connect you when an agent picks up. They don't need any other personal stuff.

As for the wage investigation, make sure you have all your pay stubs and employment info ready. They'll probably ask for a ton of documentation. It can take a while, so be patient!

I switched from unemployment to SDI last year. Here's what I learned: 1. Document everything! Keep a record of all your calls, who you spoke to, and what they said. 2. Be persistent. Sometimes you get different answers from different reps. 3. Check your online account regularly for updates. 4. If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try reaching out via social media. Sometimes they respond faster there. 5. For the wage investigation, gather all your pay stubs, W-2s, and any other proof of income. 6. Be prepared for it to take several weeks, maybe even months. Hope this helps! Good luck!

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! This is super helpful. Did you have any issues with your benefits during the switch?

•Glad I could help! There was a gap in my benefits for about 3 weeks during the switch, but they eventually backpaid me. Just make sure to keep certifying!

Has anyone tried faxing their documents instead of mailing them? I heard it might be faster.

•Faxing? What year is it, 1995? 😂

Just a heads up, if your switching from UI to SDI, make sure you dont have any outstanding weeks to certify for UI. It can mess up the whole process.

Anyone else feel like we need a complete overhaul of the entire system? It's 2023 and we're still dealing with these archaic processes. SMH.

Quick question - does anyone know if switching from UI to SDI affects your claim amount? I'm worried I might get less money.

•It might. SDI is usually based on your highest quarter of earnings in the base period. Best to ask a rep about your specific situation.
