UI to SDI transition mess-up: Reduced benefits & worried about complications. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my UI and SDI claims. I talked to a rep about disqualifying myself from UI because I'm starting SDI, but I think I messed up and didn't disqualify myself for the previous week. Now my benefit amount is reduced and I'm worried about complications. I filed for SDI a week after my disability start date. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice on how to handle this without it turning into a nightmare?

Ugh, been there done that. The EDD system is a mess! 🤦♂️ Here's what I'd do: 1. Document everything. Write down who you talked to and when. 2. Send an email to EDD explaining the situation. Be super clear about dates. 3. Keep certifying for UI until your SDI kicks in, but mark that you're not able to work. 4. Follow up, follow up, follow up! These folks move slow af. Good luck, OP. You're gonna need it with these clowns running the show.

•This is solid advice. I'd add: take screenshots of everything you do online. EDD's website is notoriously glitchy.

•Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely start documenting everything. Do you think I should try calling them again to explain the situation?

•Calling again might help, but be prepared to wait on hold forever. If you do call, ask for a reference number for the call. It helps if you need to follow up later.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•I was skeptical too, but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time.

•How long did it take to get through?

•It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit there listening to that awful hold music. The service called me when an agent picked up.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help push things through faster with EDD.

•I hadn't thought of that! How do I find my assembly member?

•Just google '[your city] assembly member'. They usually have a 'contact us' form for constituent services. Explain your situation and they might be able to help!

Pro tip: When you finally get through to someone, ask them to put notes on your account about your situation. It helps for future calls when you inevitably have to explain everything again 🙄

idk man, sounds like you struck out with that UI rep. Maybe try calling again and hope you get someone who knows what theyre doing? EDD is like a box of chocolates... you never know what youre gonna get 🍫

Ive had success emailing them through the UI Online portal. Takes a few days to get a response, but at least you have everything in writing.

•Wait, you can email them? Where's that option? I can never find it 😫

•It's under 'Contact Us' in your UI Online account. Not super obvious, but it's there!

Anyone else feel like we need a support group for dealing with EDD? 😅 This stuff is more stressful than being unemployed!

Hey OP, don't forget to check if you're eligible for any retroactive payments once you sort this out. Sometimes they owe you money and don't tell you 🙄
