SDI claim filed weeks ago, no response - normal or should I panic?
Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with SDI and I'm not sure what to do. Has anyone else had problems with their State Disability Insurance lately? I've been trying to figure out whats going on but I'm feeling pretty lost. Any advice or experiences would be really helpful!

Ugh, SDI can be such a pain! I've been dealing with them for months now. What specific issues are you having? Maybe I can help.

•Thanks for responding! I'm not really sure where to start. I filed my claim a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything back. Is that normal?

•Unfortunately, that's pretty common these days. The system is so backed up. Have you tried calling them? It's a nightmare to get through, but sometimes it's the only way to get answers.

•I've tried calling a few times but I always get stuck on hold forever and then give up. 😩 How long did you have to wait before you got through?

•Honestly, it took me like 3 days of constant redialing. I felt like I was losing my mind! But once I got through, they were able to help me out. It's worth the effort if you can manage it.

SDI is the worst! I swear they make it complicated on purpose. Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they update stuff there without actually contacting you.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/0UZGuPWGErg

•Wow, that sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? I'm desperate but $20 is a lot when you're waiting on disability payments.

•I was skeptical too, but it actually worked for me. I got through to someone in about 2 hours. Considering I spent days trying to call before, it was worth it for me.

•Idk man, sounds like a scam to me. Why should we have to pay to talk to a government agency? 🤔

•I get where you're coming from, but it's not a scam. It's just a service that saves you time. You're not paying the government, you're paying for someone else to wait on hold for you. But I totally understand if it's not for everyone!

Here's what I've learned from my SDI nightmare: 1. Document EVERYTHING. Keep copies of all your paperwork and note down every interaction. 2. Be persistent. Call, email, fax - use every method available. 3. Check your online account regularly. Sometimes they update info there without notifying you. 4. If you're really stuck, contact your local state representative. They can sometimes help push things along. 5. Join SDI Facebook groups. There's a ton of helpful info and support there. 6. Don't give up! It's frustrating, but keep at it. You'll get through eventually. Hope this helps, OP! Hang in there 💪

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start documenting everything. I hadn't even thought about contacting my state rep - that's a great idea.

•This is gold 💯 Wish I had known all this when I started my SDI journey. Would've saved me so much stress!

•Preach! 🙌 It's like they're hoping we'll just give up and go away. Not cool, SDI, not cool at all.

•Totally agree. It's a fulltime job just trying to get your benefits. How are we supposed to focus on getting better when we're stressing about this stuff all the time?

Has anyone had luck with the SDI appeals process? My claim got denied and I'm not sure what to do next.

•I went through the appeals process last year. It's a pain, but don't give up! Make sure you have all your medical documentation in order. That's key.

•Thanks for the tip! Did you use a lawyer or handle it yourself?

•I handled it myself, but I've heard some people have success with lawyers. Depends on how complicated your case is, I guess.

Pro tip: if you're having trouble with SDI, try reaching out to them on Twitter. Sometimes their social media team is more responsive than their phone lines. Worth a shot! 🤷♂️
