EDD account locked - Can't access email to file unemployment claim. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment claim. I've got an existing account but I can't access the email I used to register it. I've completely lost access to that email and now I'm trying to change it so I can log in and file my claim. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice on how to change my email or get back into my account?

I found a way to solve EDD email change issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrK8TrhZrHo

Ugh, been there done that. EDD's system is such a pain sometimes. Have you tried calling their support line? It's a nightmare to get through, but it might be your best bet for changing account info.

I've been trying to call for days but no luck. It's always busy or they hang up on me. 😫 Any tips for getting through?

Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and start dialing at 7:59 AM. Sometimes you can get through before the rush.

I actually found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😤

I get it, but think about how much time you waste trying to get through. For me, it was worth it to just solve the problem and move on.

Have you tried going to an EDD office in person? Sometimes face-to-face is the best way to handle these account issues.

This happened to me last year. Here's what I did: 1. Went to the EDD website and used the 'Contact Us' form 2. Explained my situation in detail 3. Provided alternative contact info (phone number) 4. Waited about a week for them to reach out 5. Had to verify my identity again 6. Finally got my email changed It's a process, but it worked eventually. Hang in there!

Thank you so much for the detailed steps! I'll give this a try. How long did the whole process take for you?

It took about 3 weeks total, but ymmv. Just keep following up if you don't hear back.

have u tried making a new account? might be easier than dealing with edd's bs

DON'T do this! It can flag your account for fraud and make everything 10x worse. Always try to fix your existing account first.

Oof, I feel your pain. EDD's website is like something from the stone age 🦕 Have you checked if they have any account recovery options that don't require email access? Sometimes there's a secret backdoor.

Not sure if this helps, but I had a similar issue with my SDI claim. I ended up having to fax (yes, fax in 2023 🙄) a signed letter explaining my situation along with copies of my ID. Took forever, but they eventually sorted it out.

I went through this exact same nightmare a few months ago! Here's what finally worked for me: I had to submit a paper form (DE 8714) that you can download from the EDD website. You fill it out with your SSN, old email, new email, and include a copy of your ID. Then mail it to their Sacramento office. It took about 2-3 weeks to process, but they eventually updated my email and sent me a confirmation letter. Way slower than online, but it's the official way to change your email when you can't access the old one. Hope this helps!

This is super helpful! @7ca11bd5e86e Do you happen to remember the exact mailing address for the Sacramento office? I want to make sure I send it to the right place. Also, did you have to get the form notarized or anything like that?
