Can't reset EDD password for disability application after prior UI claim - no access to last payment amount
I'm in a frustrating situation with EDD right now. I need to file for disability (SDI) but my only existing EDD account is from when I collected unemployment benefits back in 2019. I've completely forgotten my password and when I try to reset it, the system is asking for the amount of my last unemployment payment. I have absolutely NO idea what that amount was - it's been years and I don't have those records anymore! Is there any alternative way to reset my password or access my account without having to provide my last payment amount? Can I create a new account just for my disability claim? Or do I need to call EDD directly (which seems impossible)? This is urgent as I need to apply for disability ASAP due to a recent medical situation. Any advice would be hugely appreciated!!

•So frustrating! Did you ever figure out a solution? My doctor's already submitted their portion but I can't complete my end of the disability application without accessing the account.

You have a few options here: 1. If you have any old tax documents (like 1099-G forms), they would show your unemployment payment amounts. Check your email too - EDD sends notifications when payments are issued. 2. You cannot create a new account as EDD ties everything to your SSN, so you need to recover your existing account. 3. For SDI/disability specifically, you might be able to file using the paper DE 2501 form if the online system isn't working for you. You can download this from the EDD website. 4. If none of that works, you'll need to speak with an EDD representative to manually verify your identity and reset your access.

•Thanks for these suggestions. I checked but don't have any tax documents from that period either (went through a divorce and lost a lot of paperwork). I'll look into the paper form option as a last resort, but I'm worried about delaying my claim since I really need the income soon.

Have yu tried calling the SDI phone number instead of the regular EDD number? The disability department is actually separate from unemployment and sometimes easier to get thru to. They might be able to help you without needing the exact payment amount. Just a thought!!!

•I didn't realize the SDI had a separate number! Do you happen to know what it is? I'll try calling them tomorrow morning.

The SDI phone number is 1-800-480-3287, and they're available weekdays 8am-5pm. But honestly, getting through to any EDD department by phone can be nearly impossible these days. One reliable solution many people here have found success with is using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a service that helps you get through to an EDD representative without the endless redials and busy signals. I was skeptical at first but after facing your exact situation with a forgotten password, I tried it and got through to an agent who verified my identity and reset my account access. There's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km EDD can absolutely reset your password manually after verifying your identity with other information. Just make sure you have your ID, social security number, and address history ready when you call.

•Thank you so much for this info! I'll try the SDI number first thing tomorrow, but if that doesn't work, I'll definitely check out that Claimyr service. At this point, I just need to get this application submitted before my short-term savings run out. Really appreciate the help!

The EDD system is RIDICULOUS!!! They expect us to remember payment amounts from YEARS ago?? I had the same issue but for a different reason - I needed to check my wage history for a home loan. The entire system is designed to PREVENT people from accessing benefits they're entitled to!!! I ended up having to go to an actual EDD office in person with multiple forms of ID to reset my account. If you have an office near you, that might be quicker than the phone nightmare.

•This is actually good advice. EDD America's Job Centers (formerly known as One-Stop Career Centers) can sometimes help with account issues in person. You can find your nearest location on the EDD website. Just be sure to bring multiple forms of ID including your Social Security card, driver's license, and any EDD correspondence you might have.

I work for a disability attorney and we see this ALL THE TIME with clients. Here's what I recommend: 1. Try the direct SDI tech support line: 1-866-262-2551 (different from the main SDI line someone mentioned) 2. Explain you need to file for SDI but can't access your account due to password issues 3. They can verify your identity using other methods like your driver's license number, address history, etc. 4. Request they either reset your password OR provide alternate filing instructions Also, if you're unable to file online immediately, make sure to get a doctor's note with the date your disability began. This is important because EDD can backdate your claim if there's a delay in filing that wasn't your fault (like account access issues).

•This is SUPER helpful, thank you! I didn't know about the tech support line or the backdating option. I'll definitely get documentation from my doctor about when my disability started. Really appreciate the expert advice.

•HA! I've NEVER received a response from those contact forms. They go straight into the EDD black hole!

UPDATE: I wanted to let everyone know what worked for me in case someone else has this problem in the future. I used the Claimyr service that someone recommended and got through to an actual SDI representative in about 20 minutes! The rep was able to verify my identity using my driver's license, social security number, and address history. She reset my account access and helped me start my disability claim right there on the phone. The weird thing is that my old unemployment account and this new disability claim are somehow separate in their system, even though they both use my SSN. The rep explained that while they're both under EDD, they use different systems. Anyway, my claim is now processing and I should receive my SDI debit card within 7-10 days according to the rep. Thanks to everyone who helped with suggestions!

•Glad to hear you got it resolved! And yes, this is correct - although both UI and SDI are administered by EDD, they use different systems and funding sources (UI is funded by employers while SDI comes from employee contributions). That's why the SDI representatives can often help when the regular UI representatives can't. Best of luck with your disability claim!
