SDI account creation error: Driver's license already registered? Help!

I'm so frustrated with the EDD website! I've been trying to create an SDI account to file a claim, but I keep getting an error message saying my driver's license is already registered to another account. I've double-checked all my info and I'm sure it's correct. Has anyone else run into this issue? What should I do? I've been trying to call them for days but can't get through. Any advice would be appreciated!

I found a way to solve EDD website driver's license error, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPc3TrpL7Mk

Ugh, I feel your pain! I had the exact same issue last month. It's like the EDD system is designed to make our lives miserable 🤦‍♂️ Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? Sometimes that helps with weird website glitches.

0 coins

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give that a try. Did it work for you?

0 coins

Honestly, it didn't solve my problem completely, but it did let me get a bit further in the process before hitting another roadblock. The EDD website is a mess!

Clearing cache rarely fixes these kinda issues. Its usually a problem on their end, not ours. 🙄

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

0 coins

I was skeptical at first too, but I can confirm it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration!

20 bucks to talk to EDD? That's highway robbery! 😤 The government should make it easier to reach them without paying extra.

I get where you're coming from, but for me, it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Time is money, ya know?

Here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check all your info: Make sure everything matches your ID exactly. 2. Try a different browser: Sometimes IE works better than Chrome for gov sites. 3. Call early: Like, crack-of-dawn early. Be on the phone at 7:59 AM. 4. Use the 'Contact Us' form on the website: It's slow, but they do respond. 5. If all else fails, contact your local assembly member. They can often help push things through. Hang in there! The system sucks, but persistence pays off.

0 coins

Wow, thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely try calling super early tomorrow. Fingers crossed 🤞

Contacting your assembly member is lowkey the best advice here. They have special hotlines to EDD. I got my issue fixed in 2 days after weeks of nothing!

have u tried turning it off and on again? 😂 jk jk... but srsly, the EDD site is a joke. good luck, OP!

This happened to me too! Turns out my ex had used my license number by mistake when she filed her claim. Had to go through a whole identity verification process to sort it out. Check if anyone else might have accidentally used your info!

0 coins

Oh wow, I hadn't even considered that possibility. I'll definitely look into it. How long did the identity verification process take for you?

0 coins

It took about 3 weeks total. Not gonna lie, it was a pain in the ass. Make sure you have ALL your documents ready if you go this route.

Pro tip: if u cant get thru on the main line, try calling the employer line instead. sometimes they'll help u even if ur not an employer. worth a shot! 🤷‍♀️

0 coins

Isn't that kinda unethical tho? Like cutting in line at the DMV or smthn

desperate times call for desperate measures, my dude. EDD should hire more ppl if they don't want us doing this 🤷‍♀️

I work in IT and I can tell you that these government systems are often running on ancient technology. It's not just user error - the whole system is probably held together with duct tape and prayers. Keep trying and document everything. Good luck!

I had this exact same issue a few months ago! It turned out that I had actually started creating an account years earlier but never finished the process. The system still had my driver's license on file from that incomplete registration. I ended up having to call the technical support line (not the regular claims line) and they were able to clear the old record so I could start fresh. The tech support number is usually less busy than the main line. Also, try logging in with "forgot password" using your license number - sometimes that reveals if you actually do have an old account you forgot about. Hope this helps!

This is such a common issue with EDD! I went through the same nightmare last year. What worked for me was actually visiting a local EDD office in person - I know it's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get real help. They were able to look up my driver's license in their system and see what was going on. Turns out there was a duplicate entry from when I moved and updated my address. The staff member was able to merge the accounts on the spot. Also, if you do get through on the phone, ask to speak to a tier 2 representative - they have more access to fix these technical issues than the regular customer service reps. Don't give up!

This is really helpful advice! I didn't even think about visiting an office in person. Do you know if I need to make an appointment first, or can I just walk in? And what documents should I bring with me? I'm willing to try anything at this point - the phone lines have been impossible to get through on.

I went through this exact same frustrating experience! The driver's license "already registered" error is super common with EDD's system. Here's what finally worked for me: I called the SDI phone line at exactly 8:00 AM on a Tuesday (seems like Tuesdays are less busy than Mondays). When I got through, I explained the error and the rep was able to see that there was indeed a duplicate or corrupted entry in their system. She cleared it out and I was able to create my account within 10 minutes. Also, make sure you're using the exact spelling and formatting of your name as it appears on your driver's license - even an extra space or middle initial can cause issues. If calling doesn't work, definitely try Natalie's suggestion about visiting an office in person. The in-person staff have way more tools to fix these backend issues than the phone reps do. Hang in there - this is definitely solvable!

This is super helpful, thank you! I'm definitely going to try calling at exactly 8 AM on Tuesday like you suggested. I've been calling randomly throughout the day which probably explains why I can't get through. And you're absolutely right about the name formatting - I just double-checked and I think I might have been including my middle initial when my license doesn't have it. It's crazy how these tiny details can mess up the whole system! Really appreciate you sharing what worked for you 🙏

I had this exact same error message last year and it was so frustrating! After weeks of trying, I finally got through to someone who explained that this often happens when there's a partial account creation in their system - maybe you started the process before but didn't complete it, or there was a technical glitch that left your info in limbo. What worked for me was calling the technical support line (different from the regular claims line) at 1-800-480-3287. They have access to clear these duplicate entries. Also try using the "Account Recovery" option on the website - sometimes it will show you if there's an existing account tied to your license that you forgot about. The key is being super persistent and trying different approaches. Don't let the broken system defeat you - your benefits are worth fighting for!

0 coins

Thank you so much for sharing that technical support number! I've been calling the regular claims line this whole time and getting nowhere. The account recovery option is also something I hadn't thought to try - I'll definitely check that first to see if there's some phantom account I don't remember creating. It's reassuring to know that this is a known issue with their system and not just me being incompetent with technology 😅 Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! It's so maddening that such a basic function like creating an account can be this broken. I've been reading through all the suggestions here and I'm going to try a combination approach: first I'll check the account recovery option that Zara mentioned, then try calling that technical support number at 8 AM on Tuesday like Freya suggested. If those don't work, I might have to bite the bullet and visit an office in person like Ava did. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to access benefits we're entitled to, but I guess that's the reality with EDD. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - at least I know I'm not alone in this struggle! 🤞

That sounds like a solid plan, Daniel! I'm actually in the same boat and found this thread super helpful. One thing I'd add - if you do end up visiting an office, I'd recommend calling ahead to check their hours and see if they're doing walk-ins that day. Some locations have limited in-person services post-COVID. Also, bring multiple forms of ID just in case - driver's license, social security card, passport if you have one. The more documentation you have, the easier it'll be for them to verify your identity and clear up the system glitch. Fingers crossed for all of us dealing with this nightmare! 🙏

I've been lurking here for a while but had to create an account to chime in on this thread because I JUST went through this exact same nightmare! The driver's license "already registered" error had me pulling my hair out for weeks. What finally worked for me was a combination of several suggestions I've seen here: I used the account recovery option first (like Zara suggested) and discovered I did have a phantom account from 2019 that I'd completely forgotten about. Then I called that technical support number at 8 AM sharp on a Tuesday (thanks Freya!) and got through on my second try. The tech was able to merge my old incomplete account with my new attempt and boom - problem solved! The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes once I got the right person. For anyone still struggling with this, definitely try the account recovery first - you might be surprised what you find. And that Tuesday morning calling strategy is legit! Good luck everyone! 💪

Emma, this is exactly what I needed to hear! I've been feeling so defeated by this whole process, but your success story gives me hope. I had no idea there could be phantom accounts from years ago - that makes total sense why the system thinks my license is already registered. I'm definitely going to try the account recovery option first thing tomorrow morning, and if I find an old account, I'll call that technical support number on Tuesday at 8 AM like you and Freya suggested. It's amazing how this community has come together to help each other navigate EDD's broken system. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience - it really helps to know there's light at the end of this tunnel! 🙌

I'm going through this exact same issue right now and this thread has been a lifesaver! I've been banging my head against the wall for the past week trying to figure out why my driver's license is "already registered." Reading everyone's experiences makes me feel way less crazy - it's clearly a widespread problem with EDD's system, not something we're doing wrong. I'm going to try Emma's approach first: check the account recovery option to see if there's some old account I forgot about, then call that technical support number (1-800-480-3287) at 8 AM on Tuesday. If that doesn't work, I'll consider visiting an office in person like Ava suggested. It's frustrating that we have to become detective-level problem solvers just to access basic government services, but I really appreciate everyone sharing their strategies. This community support is honestly better than anything EDD provides! 🤝

I'm so glad this thread exists too! I've been dealing with the same driver's license error for the past few days and was starting to think I was losing my mind. It's wild how many of us have run into this exact same issue - really shows how broken EDD's system is. I'm definitely going to follow the game plan that's emerged from everyone's experiences: account recovery first, then that Tuesday 8 AM technical support call strategy. Emma's success story is really encouraging! Thanks to everyone who shared their solutions - it's crazy that we have to crowdsource fixes for basic government services, but at least we're helping each other out! 🙏

I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been dealing with this exact same "driver's license already registered" error for the past two weeks and was starting to lose hope. Reading through everyone's experiences and solutions has been incredibly helpful - it's clear this is a widespread system issue, not user error. I'm planning to follow the strategy that seems to work best based on what everyone has shared: 1. Try the account recovery option first to check for any forgotten old accounts 2. Call the technical support line (1-800-480-3287) at 8:00 AM sharp on Tuesday 3. If that fails, visit an EDD office in person with multiple forms of ID Emma's success story really gives me hope that this is solvable! It's ridiculous that we need to become EDD system experts just to file a basic claim, but I'm grateful for this community helping each other navigate these broken government systems. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - you're literally saving people's sanity! 🙏

This is such a solid plan, Dmitry! I just went through this whole ordeal myself a few weeks ago and that exact strategy is what finally worked for me. The account recovery step is really key - I was shocked to find I had an old partial account from 2020 that I'd completely forgotten about. And that Tuesday 8 AM calling tip is gold - I think it's because they're less swamped right after the weekend. One small addition to your plan: when you call that technical support number, make sure to have your SSN, driver's license number, and full legal name (exactly as it appears on your license) ready to go. They can usually clear the duplicate entry pretty quickly once they verify your identity. You've got this! The system is broken but it's definitely fixable with the right approach. 💪

I'm going through this exact same nightmare right now! Been stuck on this "driver's license already registered" error for over a week and was starting to think I was going crazy. This thread is like finding an oasis in the desert - so relieved to see I'm not alone and that there are actual solutions that work! Based on everyone's experiences, I'm going to try this approach: 1. Account recovery option first (thanks Zara for that tip!) 2. Call technical support at 1-800-480-3287 at exactly 8 AM on Tuesday (Freya's strategy seems legit) 3. Have all my documents ready - SSN, license number, full legal name exactly as it appears on my license Emma's success story gives me so much hope! It's absolutely insane that we have to become EDD system detectives just to access benefits we've paid into, but at least this community has each other's backs. The fact that so many people have had this exact same issue really shows how broken their system is. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share what worked for you - you're literally saving people from weeks of frustration! I'll report back once I try these solutions. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Aaliyah, you're definitely not going crazy - this error is like a rite of passage for EDD users at this point! 😅 Your plan sounds perfect and mirrors exactly what worked for me and so many others here. Just want to add one small tip: when you do the account recovery search, try different variations of your name if the first attempt doesn't find anything. Sometimes the system has weird formatting quirks (like extra spaces or abbreviated middle names) that can hide old accounts. Also, if you get through on that Tuesday call but the first rep can't help, politely ask to be transferred to a "tier 2" technical specialist - they have more system access to clear these duplicate entries. The whole situation is ridiculous but you've got the winning formula now! We'll all be rooting for you! 🙌

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now and this thread has been a total game-changer! I've been stuck on the "driver's license already registered" error for almost two weeks and was starting to panic about missing deadlines. Reading through everyone's experiences, it's clear this is a major system flaw on EDD's end, not something we're doing wrong. The strategy that's emerged from this community is brilliant: 1. Try account recovery first to find any phantom accounts (genius tip from Zara!) 2. Call technical support at 1-800-480-3287 at 8 AM Tuesday (Freya's timing strategy) 3. Have all docs ready - SSN, license number, exact legal name formatting Emma's success story really restored my faith that this is solvable! It's absolutely ridiculous that accessing our own benefits requires this level of detective work, but I'm so grateful for everyone sharing their solutions. This community support is honestly more helpful than anything EDD provides officially. I'm going to try this approach tomorrow and will definitely report back with results. Thank you all for turning this frustrating nightmare into an actionable plan! 🙏

Jace, you're so right about this community being more helpful than EDD's official support! I just wanted to add one more thing that helped me when I was dealing with this same error - if you're still having trouble after trying the account recovery and calling that technical support number, try accessing the EDD website from an incognito/private browser window. Sometimes cached data can interfere with the account creation process. Also, I've noticed that the system tends to be less glitchy late at night (like after 10 PM) or super early in the morning before 7 AM when fewer people are trying to access it. The timing really does make a difference! Good luck with your Tuesday morning call - you've got this! 💪

I'm going through this exact same frustrating issue right now! Been trying to create my SDI account for over a week and keep hitting that "driver's license already registered" wall. This thread has been incredibly helpful - it's such a relief to know this is a widespread EDD system problem and not just me being tech-challenged! Based on everyone's shared experiences, I'm planning to follow the winning strategy that's emerged: 1. Check account recovery first to look for any forgotten old accounts 2. Call that technical support line (1-800-480-3287) at exactly 8 AM on Tuesday 3. Have all my info ready - SSN, license number, and exact name formatting Emma's success story really gives me hope that there's light at the end of this tunnel! It's absolutely wild that we need to become EDD system experts just to access basic benefits, but I'm so grateful for this community sharing real solutions. The fact that this thread has become like a master class in navigating EDD's broken system says everything about how poorly designed their website is. Going to try the Tuesday morning call approach and will definitely report back with results. Thank you to everyone who took the time to document what worked - you're saving so many people from weeks of frustration! 🙏

I'm so glad this thread exists too! I've been dealing with this same error for the past few days and was getting really discouraged. It's amazing how this community has basically created the definitive guide to solving EDD's driver's license registration glitch. Your plan sounds solid - that Tuesday 8 AM technical support call strategy seems to be the real MVP based on everyone's success stories. I'm also going to try the incognito browser tip that Dmitry mentioned, since I hadn't thought about cached data potentially interfering. It's honestly ridiculous that we have to crowdsource solutions for basic government services, but at least we're all helping each other out! Definitely keep us posted on how the call goes - rooting for you! 🤞
