SDI registration error: Driver's license already linked to another account. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having a frustrating issue with my SDI registration. When I try to register, it says my driver's license is already linked to another account. Has anyone else run into this problem? Any advice on how to fix it? I'm not sure what to do and really need to get this sorted out.

Ugh, that sucks! I had a similar issue last year. You'll need to call them and explain the situation. Be prepared for a long wait time tho π

β’Long wait time is an understatement lol. I was on hold for 3 hours last week π

β’Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through in like 20 mins doing that

β’Thanks for the advice! Any specific things I should say when I finally get through?

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

β’Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

β’Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

This happened to me too! Turns out someone had used my license number by mistake. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the SDI office (be prepared for a long wait) 2. Explain the situation clearly 3. Ask them to verify your identity using other info (SSN, address, etc.) 4. Request they unlink your license from the incorrect account 5. Have them help you set up a new account It took me a couple calls, but they eventually sorted it out. Good luck!

β’Thank you so much for the detailed steps! This is really helpful. Did they give you any trouble about unlinking the license?

β’Nah, they were actually pretty understanding once I got through to the right person. Just be patient and polite, you'll get it sorted!

Have you tried creating an account with a different form of ID? Sometimes that works and then you can link your license later.

β’I didn't even know that was an option! I'll give it a shot, thanks!

Oof, been there done that. It's a pain but you gotta call them. Pro tip: have all your docs ready before you call. They'll ask for everything under the sun π

Had this exact same issue a few months ago! It's super frustrating but definitely fixable. What worked for me was calling the EDD disability line first thing in the morning (around 8 AM) and explaining that my license was incorrectly linked to another account. They had me verify my identity with my SSN, birthdate, and address, then they were able to unlink it and help me create a new account on the spot. The whole process took about 45 minutes once I got through. Hang in there - you'll get it sorted! πͺ

β’This is super helpful! I'm definitely going to try calling first thing in the morning. 45 minutes sounds way better than the 3+ hours some people have mentioned. Did you have to provide any documentation over the phone or was it all verbal verification?

β’@Javier Morales Thanks for sharing your experience! That s'really encouraging to hear it only took 45 minutes once you got through. I m'curious - did they ask you to prove that the other account wasn t'actually yours, or did they just take your word for it once you verified your identity?

β’@Javier Morales This gives me hope! I ve'been dreading having to deal with this but knowing someone else got it resolved relatively quickly makes me feel better. Did you have to wait long on hold even calling at 8 AM, or did you get through pretty fast?

This is such a common issue unfortunately! I went through this nightmare about 6 months ago. Here's what I learned: definitely call early (like 7:50 AM and be ready to dial right at 8), but also try the online chat feature first if it's available - sometimes they can flag your account for manual review without you having to wait on hold. If that doesn't work, when you do call, ask to speak to a "technical specialist" specifically about account linking errors. Regular customer service reps sometimes can't access the tools needed to unlink accounts, but the specialists can. Also keep a log of every call (date, time, rep name if they give it) in case you need to escalate. The whole system is a mess but you'll get through it! π€

β’This is gold! π I had no idea there was an online chat feature or that you could ask for a technical specialist specifically. The tip about keeping a log is really smart too - I'm definitely going to start doing that for any government calls. Thanks for sharing all these detailed tips @Malik Johnson! It's so helpful to hear from people who've actually been through this mess and found solutions.

Just went through this exact same thing last week! Super frustrating but I got it resolved. Here's what worked for me: I called the EDD disability line at exactly 8:01 AM (their lines open at 8 but I waited a minute to avoid the initial rush). When I got through, I explained that my license was linked to an account I didn't create. The rep had me verify my identity with SSN, full name, DOB, and current address. Then they were able to see that someone had indeed entered my license number incorrectly on their account. They unlinked it immediately and helped me create my proper account right there on the call. The whole thing took about 30 minutes once connected. Pro tip: have all your info ready (SSN, license number, address history for past 2 years) because they'll verify everything. Don't give up - it's totally fixable! πͺ

β’Wow, 30 minutes total is amazing! @Misterclamation Skyblue Your tip about waiting until 8:01 instead of calling right at 8 is really smart - I never would have thought of that but it makes total sense to avoid the initial rush. I m'dealing with this exact same issue right now and was getting so stressed about it. Having all that info ready beforehand is great advice too. Did they ask for anything else beyond what you mentioned, or was that pretty much everything they needed to verify your identity?

This thread has been so helpful! I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now and was starting to panic. Reading everyone's experiences and solutions gives me hope that it's actually fixable. I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning at 8:01 AM with all my documents ready. Question for those who got it resolved - did any of you have to deal with this affecting an existing claim, or were you all just trying to register for the first time like me? Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences! π

β’@Emma Thompson I m'in the same boat as you - first time trying to register and hit this roadblock! Reading through everyone s'advice here has been super reassuring. The 8:01 AM call strategy seems to be the consensus winner. I m'planning to call tomorrow too with all my docs ready. We got this! πͺ Let me know how it goes for you - maybe we can compare notes on what works best.

This is such a helpful thread! I'm new to the community and currently dealing with this exact same driver's license linking issue. It's really reassuring to see so many people have successfully resolved this problem. Based on everyone's advice, I'm planning to call tomorrow at 8:01 AM with all my documents ready (SSN, license number, address history, etc.). The tip about asking for a "technical specialist" for account linking errors is particularly useful - I wouldn't have known to do that otherwise. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions! This community is awesome for helping each other navigate these bureaucratic nightmares. π
