SDI application says my driver's license is linked to another account, but I've never applied before. Help!
I'm having a frustrating issue with applying for SDI. Every time I try to verify my ID.me account, it says my driver's license is already associated with another account. But I've never applied for SDI before! I went to the SDI office today and they just handed me a paper application. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to fix this mess?

Ugh, that sounds like a nightmare! I had a similar issue when I applied last year. Have you tried contacting ID.me directly? They might be able to help sort out the driver's license confusion.

•I didn't even think about contacting ID.me directly. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

•Good idea! ID.me can be a pain, but their support is usually pretty helpful. Fingers crossed for you, OP! 🤞

Classic government efficiency 🙄 I swear, sometimes it feels like they make these systems complicated on purpose. Have you tried calling the SDI hotline? Maybe they can verify your info over the phone.

•I've been trying to call for days, but I can never get through. It's so frustrating!

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. It's annoying, but it's the only way I've ever gotten through.

I found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

•Wait, we have to PAY to talk to a government agency now? That's messed up. 😡

•I get it, but think of it as paying for your time back. I'd rather pay $20 than waste a whole day on hold.

Here's what I'd do in your situation: 1. Fill out that paper application ASAP. Sometimes the old-school method works when the online system is being glitchy. 2. Contact ID.me support directly. Explain the situation and ask them to verify that your driver's license isn't actually linked to another account. 3. If you can get through on the phone, ask the SDI rep to make a note on your account about this issue. 4. Document everything. Keep a log of who you talk to, when, and what they say. 5. If all else fails, consider reaching out to your local state representative. They sometimes have staff who can help navigate these bureaucratic nightmares. Hang in there! The system is a pain, but persistence usually pays off eventually.

•This is solid advice. I'd add: make copies of EVERYTHING before you send it in. You never know when they might 'lose' your paperwork. 🙄

have u tried turning it off and on again? 🤣 jk jk... but seriously, sometimes logging out of everything, clearing your browser cache, and trying again can help with weird online glitches. might be worth a shot!

This happened to my cousin last month. Turns out someone had stolen his identity and applied for benefits in his name. Might want to check your credit report just to be safe.

•Oh no, that's scary! I'll definitely check my credit report. Thanks for the heads up!

•Yikes, identity theft is no joke. Good call on checking the credit report. Maybe freeze your credit too, just to be extra safe?

I had almost the exact same issue! Turns out there was a glitch in the ID.me system where driver's licenses were getting randomly flagged as "already in use" even when they weren't. Here's what worked for me: 1. Go to ID.me's help center and submit a ticket with screenshots of the error message 2. Include your full name, DOB, and last 4 of SSN in the ticket 3. Explain that you've never had an ID.me account before They resolved it within 3 business days for me. Also, while you're waiting, definitely submit that paper application as backup - it might actually process faster anyway! The online system has been super buggy lately. Don't stress too much, this seems to be happening to a lot of people recently. You're not alone in this mess! 💪

•This is super helpful! I'm definitely going to try submitting a ticket to ID.me with all those details. It's such a relief to know this is a known issue and not just me going crazy. Thank you for sharing your experience - gives me hope that this will actually get resolved! 🙏

I'm dealing with something similar right now! Been stuck in ID.me limbo for weeks. One thing that helped me was going directly to an EDD office (not just SDI) with all my documents - they were able to manually verify my identity and bypass the whole ID.me mess. It's a pain to take time off work, but might be worth it if the online route keeps failing. Also, I've heard from others that sometimes the "already linked" error clears up on its own after a few days, so maybe try again in a couple days? The whole system is just broken tbh. Hope you get through this soon! 🤞

•Thanks for the tip about going to the EDD office directly! I didn't realize they could bypass ID.me completely. That might be my best bet since I'm getting nowhere with the online system. Did you have to bring any specific documents with you when you went in person?

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! It's so frustrating when the system says your license is already linked but you know for a fact you've never applied before. I've been trying for weeks and getting nowhere. Reading through these comments is actually really helpful - I had no idea ID.me had a direct support option or that this was such a widespread issue. Definitely going to try contacting them directly and maybe check out that paper application route too. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it makes me feel less alone in this bureaucratic nightmare! 😅

•I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been dealing with the exact same ID.me driver's license issue for the past two weeks and was starting to think I was losing my mind. It's such a relief to know this is happening to so many people and that there are actually solutions. I'm definitely going to try the ID.me support ticket route first, and if that doesn't work, I'll head to the EDD office in person. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - this community is a lifesaver! 🙏
