CalWORKs funds delayed past midnight - LA County payment timing question

Anyone else in LA County still waiting for their Cash Aid to hit their account? It's already past midnight and I don't see my benefits loaded yet. Usually they're in by 11pm on the deposit date. Getting worried since rent is due tomorrow and my landlord isn't exactly the understanding type. UPDATE 7:59am - Just checked as soon as I opened my eyes and the money's there! What a relief. Guess they're running a little behind this month.

This happens sometimes with LA County. The system runs batch processing overnight and sometimes it takes until early morning for funds to post. I've noticed my deposit time varies between 11pm-8am depending on the month. As long as your case is active, you should see it by morning.

Thanks, you were right! Had me sweating bullets for a minute there. Do you know if there's a way to find out exactly when deposits are scheduled? My EBT worker never gives me straight answers about timing.

mine wasnt there at midnite either!!!!! checked again at 6 when i got up for work & IT FINALLY SHOWED UP. hate when they do this, makes me panic everytime thinking they cut me off or somthin

They really should communicate better about payment schedules. FYI deposits can be affected by both weekends and holidays. For example, if the 1st falls on a Sunday, some counties process payments on the Friday before, while others wait until Monday.

This happens to me ALL THE TIME with LA County. The system is so unpredictable with timing! Sometimes my CalWORKs hits right at midnight, other times not until 8-9am the next day. One time I didn't get my deposit until almost noon and I was freaking out thinking they discontinued me. Wish they'd be consistent because some of us have bills that need to be paid first thing!

Right?! It's stressful not knowing exactly when funds will be available. My landlord charges late fees at 9am sharp if rent isn't in his account by then.

Just FYI - I've been on Cash Aid in LA County for 2 years now and the deposit time is NEVER consistent. The county worker told me benefits can post anytime from midnight to noon the next day. Something about how the state sends the money to the county in batches and then they process it. It's annoying but normal.

This⬆️ is accurate. I used to work for DPSS (not anymore) and the electronic funds transfer system runs in batches throughout the night. LA County has so many cases that they can't process them all at once. Even within the same district office, people get their benefits at different times.

Next time you're worried about your CalWORKs benefits and can't reach anyone, try using Claimyr. It got me through to LA County when I was freaking out about my missing payment last month. You bypass the whole phone queue system. I watched their video demo first (https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE) and it worked exactly like they showed. The website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out. Saved me hours of waiting and calling back.

Wait your benefits actually came through? I'm still waiting on mine and it's almost 9AM! I called the EBT customer service number and they said everything looks normal on my account but nothing has deposited yet. This is making me so anxious I can't even focus on getting my kids ready for school. 😫

If customer service confirmed your account is active, try not to worry. LA County processes hundreds of thousands of payments - sometimes it takes until later in the morning. If it's not there by noon, then call your worker directly. Make sure you also check your semi-annual reporting status - if you have an overdue SAR7, that could delay your payment.

Just as an update for anyone who might search for this in the future - my worker told me that LA County processes CalWORKs payments in batches by case number groupings. That's why some people get theirs at midnight and others not until morning. She said there's no way to know exactly when your specific payment will post each month, but if your case is in good standing, it should arrive by noon on the payment date at the latest.

That's really helpful information! I've been on CalWORKs for years and never knew they batched by case number. Makes sense why my neighbor and I always get ours at different times despite applying in the same month.
