CalWORKs deposit missing since Wednesday - anyone else experiencing payment delays?

Anyone else still waiting on their CalWORKs Cash Aid deposit? Mine was supposed to hit my account Wednesday morning, but nothing's shown up yet. This has never happened before. My worker knows about it and says she's "looking into it" but I'm trying not to keep calling them every hour. My rent is due Monday and I'm starting to panic. Is the county having some kind of payment system issue? I checked BenefitsCal and it shows my benefits as active and the payment as "issued" but my bank account is still empty.

same here! mine's 3 days late now. worker said something about a glitch in the system but didnt say when it would be fixed

Did they at least give you some kind of timeframe? I can't get a straight answer from anyone at the office.

This is excellent advice. Documentation is crucial when dealing with CalWORKs. I'd also recommend requesting an \

I had this problem last month and spent THREE DAYS trying to reach my worker. Kept getting sent to voicemail that was full and couldn't leave a message. Finally I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to a real person at the CalWORKs office in like 15 minutes. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwEThe payment issue turned out to be because my case had been transferred to a different worker without anyone telling me, and the new worker hadn't properly authorized my payment. Once I finally reached someone, they fixed it and I got the deposit the next day.

Does that service actually work? I've been trying to reach my worker all week and just get disconnected after waiting on hold for an hour. I'm so stressed about this payment delay I can barely sleep.

Yeah it worked for me. My friend in my WTW program told me about it. Way better than waiting on hold for hours just to get disconnected.

have you checked if theres an issue with your bank? sometimes my bank puts a hold on government deposits for no reason. super annoying. call your bank and ask if theres a pending deposit thats being held

I didn't think of that! I'll call my bank right now. Thanks for the suggestion.

I had no idea this was an option! My landlord isn't the most understanding person so this could save me from eviction. I'll head to the office tomorrow morning if the money doesn't show up overnight. Thank you SO much for this information!

UPDATE: Money finally hit my account this morning! My worker never called me back, but when I called my bank they said there was a 3-day hold on the deposit that no one told me about. So the county actually sent it when they were supposed to. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

Thanks for updating us! This is actually a common issue - many banks place holds on government deposits, especially if it's a new account or there have been overdrafts in the past. For future reference, you can often ask your bank for an exception to the hold policy for recurring government benefits. Some banks will reduce or eliminate the hold time if you explain it's for essential living expenses.
