CalWORKs benefits not deposited today in Riverside County - paperwork up to date!
I'm literally in tears right now. My CalWORKs Cash Aid was supposed to be deposited TODAY and there's NOTHING in my account!!! I have rent due in 3 days and my landlord is already on my back about being late last month. I checked BenefitsCal and my case shows as 'active' and everything is up to date. I submitted my SAR7 last month and got the confirmation it was received. No notices in the mail saying I need to provide anything else. I called the automated line and it just says my benefits are 'in process' which makes NO sense since I've been getting Cash Aid for 6 months without problems. Riverside County ALWAYS has issues! Has anyone else in Riverside not gotten their CalWORKs today? Is this a system-wide problem or just me? I'm freaking out because my 2 kids have no food and I counted on this money today. ðŸ˜

•I tried calling 5 times today and kept getting the stupid automated system! I can't even leave a message because the voicemail is full. How are we supposed to pay bills when they just randomly don't send the money??? I'm so stressed I can't even think straight.

This happened to me last year in Riverside County too. There are a few things that might be causing this: 1. If you're at the beginning of a new quarter, sometimes there's a 1-2 day processing delay 2. Did you report any income changes recently? Even small changes can trigger a recalculation 3. Check if you're near your Income Reporting Threshold (IRT) - if you got close to it, sometimes they pause benefits while they verify 4. Bank holidays can delay deposits by a day The most important thing is to document everything. Take screenshots of your BenefitsCal account showing 'active' status. If you don't get it by tomorrow, you should request an emergency issuance by contacting your eligibility worker directly - they can expedite in hardship situations when it's their error.

•Thank you! I didn't report any income changes. I work part-time at the same place for months now, and I'm nowhere near my IRT. It's just so frustrating because I budget down to the dollar and now everything is messed up. How do I request an emergency issuance? Will they actually do it or just tell me to wait?

I had something similar happen in March! My benefits didn't come and I FREAKED OUT. Turned out there was a random flag on my account because my child's father supposedly reported working in California (he lives in Arizona and hasn't been here in years 🙄). Try using Claimyr to get through to someone at Riverside DPSS. I wasted two days trying to get through on my own, but with Claimyr I got to speak to a real person in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE The worker was able to see exactly what happened and got my benefits pushed through the next day. Sometimes there are random system flags that only a worker can clear, and waiting for it to resolve on its own can take forever.

•I've never heard of Claimyr before. Does it actually work? I'm desperate at this point so I'll try anything. Did they make you verify anything extra when you finally got through?

•Yes it definitely worked for me! When I got through, they just asked for my case number and did the normal identity verification questions. The worker could immediately see what was happening with my case and fixed it. Way better than waiting endlessly or getting hung up on after being on hold forever.

the county is ALWAYS pulling this crap!!! they did the same thing to me TWICE this year already and both times they said it was cause of "verification issues" even though i never got ANY notices saying they needed anything!!! its like they WANT us to be homeless and hungry!!! 😡😡😡

I work with a community organization that assists CalWORKs recipients in Riverside County. There are several potential causes for your situation: 1. System delays - There have been some CalWIN system updates happening this week that might affect deposit timing 2. Quarter-end processing - As we're at the end of a quarter, there can be minor delays in benefit issuance 3. Verification triggers - Sometimes the system flags accounts for verification even when nothing is actually due The most important step is to reach a person who can look at your specific case details. Request an emergency assistance evaluation due to imminent risk of homelessness (rental situation). If you're facing a critical situation with children and no food, you should also ask about emergency food assistance options. Don't panic yet - about 80% of these situations are resolved within 48 hours. Document all your contact attempts in case you need to file for a state hearing later.

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation. It gives me some hope it might just be temporary. I'm going to try to reach someone first thing tomorrow. Do you think there's any advantage to physically going to the office versus trying to call? I'm worried even if I go in person they'll just tell me to wait.

•Going in person can sometimes help, especially if you arrive early (before 8am to be in line when they open). Bring all your documentation and specifically ask for a supervisor if the front desk staff can't help. Use the phrase "immediate need" and explain the hardship situation clearly. The advantage of being there in person is they can't put you on hold or disconnect you, and you can wait for resolution. Good luck!

i bet they messed up ur discontinuance date. happened to me when my recertification was due even tho i did everything on time. riverside is a mess tbh. my cousin works for dpss and she says theyre super understaffed rn so maybe ur worker just didnt process something. did u check if ur recert is due soon?

•My recertification isn't due until August, so it's not that. But maybe they're confused about something else? I just don't understand why they wouldn't send a notice if there was a problem. It's crazy they can just not send people money they depend on with zero explanation!

This just happened to me! If the issue is what happened in my case, there's a simple fix. Riverside County is having problems with their automatic payment system. My worker told me they're having to manually approve some payments that would normally process automatically. I called using the specific worker extension number (not the main line) and left a detailed message with my case number and callback number. My worker called back within a few hours and was able to manually release my payment. It was in my account the next morning. If you don't have your specific worker's direct extension, you should be able to find it on any correspondence they've sent you. Otherwise, try the emergency services line at your local office. Don't give up! Also, document everything in case you need to file for a state hearing or request replacement benefits. Take screenshots showing your active status on BenefitsCal.

•That sounds promising! I do have my worker's extension somewhere. I'll dig through my paperwork and find it. Were you able to get any kind of emergency payment or did you have to wait until the next day?

•They told me they could issue an emergency payment if I could come to the office in person with ID, but since mine was going to be fixed by the next morning, I just waited. If you explain your rent situation they might be able to do an emergency same-day issuance, especially if you mention potential homelessness. Good luck!

Any updates? Did your benefits come through today?

•Yes!! I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and actually got through to a person. Turns out there was a system flag because my child's father applied for benefits in another county (without my knowledge) and listed our kids on his application! The worker fixed it and pushed through my payment - it was in my account this morning. I'm so relieved but still annoyed this happened with no notice or explanation. Thanks everyone for your help!
