CalWORKs benefits missing today - no pending status showing on BenefitsCal

My CalWORKs cash aid was supposed to hit my card today but nothing showed up. I checked BenefitsCal and there's no pending transaction either. Usually even if it's delayed, it at least shows as pending. I've been getting benefits for my 2 kids (ages 4 and 7) consistently for the past year with no problems. Called the county hotline 5 times today but either got disconnected or was on hold forever. Anyone else not getting their benefits today? I'm freaking out because rent is due next week and I absolutely need this money. No notice of discontinuance in the mail either.

Did you try calling them yet? I'm worried they discontinued me for some reason but I haven't received any notices.

This happens sometimes if there was a system issue with the EBT deposit system. Check if you received any mail about your semi-annual report (SAR7) recently - if you didn't turn it in on time, that could be why your benefits stopped. Also, if you recently hit your Income Reporting Threshold (IRT) and didn't report it, that could cause a discontinuance. Either way, you need to speak with your worker directly to find out what happened.

I submitted my SAR7 last month and got confirmation it was received. I haven't had any income changes either. This is so frustrating.

When did you last get a payment? Could your 48-month time limit have hit? They don't always send notices on time. Also, the system upgraded recently and there've been TONS of glitches. My worker told me they're having issues with the payment processing system right now. BTW, this isn't just a CalWORKs issue - I've heard from friends that CalFresh is having similar problems this month. There was a big system update that messed things up.

Last payment was exactly a month ago. I've only been on CalWORKs for about 14 months total so definitely not at my time limit yet. Really hoping it's just a system glitch that gets fixed soon.

Try using Claimyr.com to get through to an actual person at the county. I was in the same situation last month (no deposit, couldn't get through on phone) and was about to drive to the office when someone told me about this service. They got me connected to a live person at the county in about 10 minutes instead of spending hours on hold. The worker fixed my issue right away - turned out there was a verification they needed that got lost in the system. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE that shows how it works. Seriously saved me from having to take a day off work to go to the office.

Thanks, I'll check it out. At this point I'll try anything to get through to someone who can help.

before u panic did u check if ur card is expired?? my benefits didn't show up cuz my EBT card expired and they sent a new one but it went to my old address EVEN THO i updated my address months ago. call the EBT card number on the back of ur card (not the county) to see if the money actually loaded

Good idea but I just checked and my card is good until 2027. I tried the EBT customer service and they confirmed no deposit was made to my account today.

Quick update check - did you make any progress with this? If you weren't able to reach someone by phone, you should consider submitting an electronic case inquiry through BenefitsCal. Go to the 'Contact Us' section and submit a question about your missing payment. They typically respond within 2-3 business days. Also, if you're near your county office, sometimes going in person is the fastest way to resolve these issues. Bring your ID and any recent CalWORKs paperwork you have.

I finally got through using that Claimyr service! Worker said there was a system issue that affected multiple cases. My payment should post tomorrow. She documented that it was their error so I won't be charged any late fees if I can't pay rent on time. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

This hapens everytiem they do system updates!!! The county NEVER warns anyone and ppl just left without money. i had to borrow money from my sister last time this happened to pay my rent and then when benefits finally came thru i had to pay her back which left me short for the next month! its like the system is designed to keep us broke and desperate

I'm glad you were able to get through and that it was just a system issue! For future reference, if you ever face a situation where your benefits are delayed and it causes you to be late on rent, you can request a letter from your eligibility worker explaining the delay. Many landlords will accept this as documentation and waive late fees. Also, if you ever face a complete discontinuance without proper notice, you have the right to request a state hearing and can get aid paid pending the hearing result in many cases.

Thank you for that info! I didn't know about requesting a letter or the aid paid pending. I'll definitely remember that if I have issues in the future.
