CalWORKs Cash Aid missing but CalFresh loaded - how to reach my worker urgently?

Has anyone's CalWORKs money not shown up this month? My CalFresh/food stamps loaded on my EBT card yesterday, but the Cash Aid part is completely missing. Nothing pending, nothing processing - just zero. I've got rent due in 3 days and was counting on this money. Called the general number but after waiting 45 minutes I got disconnected. Is there any trick to actually speak with my assigned worker directly? Every time I call I just get the automated system or a general worker who can't help. Should I just go to the office in person tomorrow? Really stressing out here.

Ugh that's what I'm afraid of. Did they fix it the same day when you went in? I literally can't miss work tomorrow but I also can't miss my rent payment.

This happens sometimes when there's an issue with your case that needs to be resolved before they release the Cash Aid. Most common reasons are: 1. Missing verification documents (pay stubs, income changes, etc.) 2. Incomplete SAR 7 form (even one missing box can hold up everything) 3. Changes in household composition they need to verify 4. WTW participation hours not being recorded properly If your CalFresh posted but not your Cash Aid, that usually means there's a specific issue with just the CalWORKs portion of your case. Did you receive any Notice of Action recently? Sometimes they send these but they arrive after the payment date.

Thank you! I didn't get any notices that I know of. I think it might be the WTW hours because I switched jobs last month and my new employer hasn't sent in the verification yet. I assumed it was fine since my worker didn't say anything when I reported the job change.

Had this exact issue in January. You need to speak with your actual assigned worker to resolve this - not just any eligibility worker. The quickest way I've found is to use Claimyr (claimyr.com). They'll wait on hold with the county office for you and call you back when they reach a real person. You can see how it works on their demo: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE I wasted two days trying to get through on my own before using them. They got me connected to my worker in about 40 minutes while I was at work. My cash aid was released same day once I explained my situation.

Does this actually work??? I'm so skeptical of these services but I've literally spent HOURS trying to reach someone at my county office this month. I'll wait on hold for like an hour and then get disconnected. So frustrating!

Yes it genuinely worked for me. The key is they stay on hold instead of you, and they know how to navigate the phone trees. My worker was able to see what was holding up my cash payment (missing verification from my childcare provider) and told me exactly what to submit.

If you can't reach your worker over the phone, try emailing them if you have their email address. That's worked for me in the past. Also, check your BenefitsCal account for any pending verification requests or messages - sometimes they put notices there but don't call you about them. And definitely go to the office in person if you can't get through by tomorrow. Bring ALL your documents (ID, pay stubs, rent receipt, everything) just in case.

They ALWAYS mess up something with the Cash Aid!!! This is why I hate CalWORKs honestly. They routinely hold up people's benefits with no warning and expect you to just figure it out. Meanwhile your rent is due and your kids need things. And the county workers act like they're doing YOU a favor when you finally get through. The system is broken.

Yeah I'm starting to feel that way too. This is the second time I've had an issue in 6 months. The first time they claimed I didn't turn in my SAR7 even though I submitted it online through BenefitsCal and had the confirmation number.

Quick update question - have you checked if you're over the Income Reporting Threshold (IRT)? With your new job, your income might be higher than before. If you go over your IRT (which should be listed on your last approval letter), then you need to report it immediately, even if it's not time for your SAR7. That could definitely cause a hold on your Cash Aid while they recalculate your benefits.

I didn't think about the IRT! My new job pays about $200 more per month, but I didn't think that would put me over. I'll check my last approval letter tonight. If that's the issue, would they just reduce my cash amount or stop it completely?

They would reduce it based on your new income, not stop it completely unless you're WAY over the IRT. If it's just $200 more, you might see a reduction of $70-100 in your Cash Aid but should still get something. The problem is they won't process ANY payment until they recalculate, which is probably why it's held up now.

u should just go 2 the office first thing tmrw morning!!! bring ur ID + all ur paystubs from new job. sometimes they can fix it right there and release payment same day if u catch them early enough

That's my plan if I can't get through by phone today. I'll have to call out sick from work but I can't afford to miss my rent payment. Thanks for the advice!

My apartment complex has been having mail issues lately so it's possible I missed something. Ugh, this is so stressful!

Based on everything you've shared, I think it's definitely the new job and possible IRT issue that's causing this. When you do reach your worker, make sure you ask them to set up a new IRT threshold based on your current income so this doesn't happen again. Also, request that they send you a new approval notice after this is resolved showing your updated benefit amount and IRT. This will protect you from future payment disruptions.

Thank you so much for the advice. I'll definitely ask for the updated approval notice. I just need to find a way to reach someone today!
