CalWORKs and CalFresh benefits missing this month - payment delay or system error?

I was supposed to get my CalWORKs cash aid and CalFresh benefits loaded yesterday (the 1st) like normal, but nothing showed up on my card. Checked again this morning - still nothing! I have 3 kids and we're completely out of food. No notice about discontinuation or anything. I tried calling the county office but after waiting 45 minutes I got disconnected. Anyone else having this problem this month? Is there some kind of system-wide delay happening or is it just my case? Getting really worried since rent is due in 3 days.

Really hope that's all it is. Did your neighbor say how long it might take? I've got nothing to feed my kids for dinner tonight.

This happened to me last month, and it turned out there was a verification issue with my SAR7. Did you turn in your Semi-Annual Report recently? Sometimes they need additional verification documents and if they don't get them, they'll stop your benefits without much notice. You should log into your BenefitsCal account and check if there are any pending verification requests or notices about missing documents. If there's nothing there, it could be a system issue affecting multiple recipients.

Just checked my BenefitsCal and there's nothing there about missing documents. My SAR7 isn't due until next month. It shows my case as 'active' but still no money on my card. I'm getting really frustrated!

OMG I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!! No money on my card either and I have a 2 month old baby at home!! This is soooo stressful I called like 8 times today and couldn't even get through to a human being. This is the third time this year something's gone wrong with my benefits. Why do they make it SO HARD for people who are just trying to feed their families?? Did anyone actually reach a worker to find out what's happening???

I went down to the office in person this morning. They said there's some kind of processing delay affecting some cases. Should be fixed in 24-48 hours they said.

I've been dealing with CalWORKs and CalFresh for over 5 years now, and this happens at least once or twice a year. It's usually one of three things: 1) System-wide technical issue (most likely based on multiple people reporting it) 2) A change in your household income that triggered a review 3) Some verification they needed but didn't properly notify you about Honestly, waiting on hold forever with the regular county line almost never works. I started using this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls and waits on hold with the county for you, then calls you when a real person is on the line. Saved me hours of frustration last time this happened. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/jzISHxCPLwE In the meantime, call 211 and ask about emergency food resources. They can direct you to food banks or emergency services while you wait for your benefits to be fixed.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I'll check out that service - anything to avoid being on hold for hours just to get disconnected! And great idea about 211, I always forget about that resource.

This is actually a fairly widespread issue this month. I work with a community organization that helps people with benefit issues, and we've had about 15 clients call today with the same problem. From what I've gathered, there was a system update that caused payment delays for both CalWORKs and CalFresh for cases that were recertified in the last 90 days. Benefits should be deposited within 72 hours according to what the county told us. If you need immediate food assistance, most counties have an expedited emergency food benefit process. Call your local office and specifically ask for the "emergency food benefit request" or visit in person if possible. Make sure to mention you have children with no food - that should trigger expedited service requirements.

Just checked and mine came through too! What a relief. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. Definitely going to look into that Claimyr service for next time there's an issue though - seems like something always goes wrong every few months.
