CalFresh payment delay today - March 2025 benefits not deposited on EBT card
I'm freaking out a little bit. My CalFresh benefits are ALWAYS loaded on the 10th (today) but nothing has shown up on my EBT card yet. I checked my balance online and through the phone system and it still shows $0. Called the county office but just got the automated message saying 'high call volume' and then it hung up on me! Has anyone else not received their March 2025 benefits yet? I have 3 kids and literally nothing in the fridge right now. Do we know if there's some kind of system issue going on? My recertification isn't due until May so that shouldn't be the problem.

I got mine today, but I've noticed they've been loading benefits at different times throughout the day. What time do you usually see yours deposited? Sometimes it can take until 11:59pm to show up. Also, check your last SAR7 submission date - if your Semi-Annual Report was due last month and they didn't receive it, that could be why your benefits are delayed.

•I usually see it by 6am! It's already 3pm here and still nothing. I submitted my SAR7 back in December and got confirmation, so that should be fine. I'm just really worried because this has never happened before in 2 years of receiving benefits.

There's actually a statewide EBT system update happening today that's causing some deposit delays. CalFresh benefits should all be loaded by midnight tonight according to the notice posted on BenefitsCal website. If you don't see your benefits by tomorrow morning, then you should definitely contact your county worker to make sure there isn't an issue with your case specifically. In the meantime, if you're in a food emergency situation, you can contact your local food bank or call 211 to find emergency food resources in your area. Some food pantries can provide same-day assistance.

•Thank you so much! I hadn't seen that notice. That gives me some relief knowing it's a system thing and not just my account. I'll wait until tomorrow morning before panicking more. Really appreciate the info!

This happened to me last month too! So frustrating when you're counting on the benefits for your family. Did you try checking your BenefitsCal account to see if there's any notices about why your benefits might be delayed?

•Just checked my BenefitsCal account and there's nothing unusual there. My case still shows as active, no new notices or anything. I'm hoping it's just the system update that @helpful_person mentioned!

If you need to reach someone at the CalFresh office urgently about this issue, try using Claimyr. I had a similar situation last month and spent 3 days trying to get through the regular phone system with no luck. Claimyr got me connected to a real person at the county office in about 15 minutes. They have a service that calls the office for you and then connects you once they reach a human. I found it at claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/eZ19FHRETv8?si=_CXnXqNXbLl26WB8 Might be worth trying if your benefits don't show up by tomorrow and you need immediate assistance.

•Thank you for this! I've never heard of Claimyr before but I'm definitely going to check it out if my benefits don't show up by tomorrow morning. Those automated systems are so frustrating when you have an urgent issue.

•There is a fee but honestly it was worth it for me when I was desperate to reach someone. Saved me hours of frustration and repeated calls that went nowhere. But definitely wait until tomorrow to see if the system update resolves it first!

THE COUNTY OFFICES ARE ALWAYS DOING THIS!! They never notify us about system updates or delays. My worker told me there's actually a schedule of when benefits get deposited based on your case number, but they never share that information with recipients. It's like they want us to panic every month. I've been on CalFresh for 4 years and I STILL never know exactly when my benefits will hit my card. Sometimes it's the 9th, sometimes the 10th, once it was even the 11th!!

•That's actually correct about the deposit schedule being based partly on your case number. CalFresh benefits are staggered between the 1st and 10th of each month based on the last digit of your case number. This system was implemented to prevent everyone from shopping on the same day. However, system updates like today's can cause temporary delays beyond the normal schedule.

I had something similar happen back in January. My benefits didn't load when they were supposed to, and when I finally got through to someone, it turned out they needed additional verification for my income but the notice got lost in the mail. It might be worth logging into your BenefitsCal account to check if there are any pending verification requests or notices you might have missed. Sometimes they upload documents there even if you don't get the physical mail.

•Just double-checked my BenefitsCal account and there's nothing in the Document Upload section requesting new verifications. Everything looks normal in my account, which makes this even more confusing! I really hope it's just the system update delay that someone mentioned earlier.

My benefits finally just showed up! Check your balance again - maybe the system update is finishing now?

Glad to hear your benefits came through! For future reference, these system updates usually happen quarterly, and there's actually a schedule posted on the CDSS website. Next time you might want to check there if your benefits seem delayed. Also, signing up for EBT text alerts (if you haven't already) will notify you immediately when funds are deposited to your card.

•Thank you! I didn't know about the quarterly updates or the CDSS website posting that information. I'll definitely sign up for the text alerts - would have saved me a lot of stress today!
